Forums Closed
|
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Hello, thank you, and wedding report!
Hi everyone! We got home about an hour ago and now have about 18 hours to unpack, do some laundry, start putting away some of our gifts, run to the bank, pay some bills, then pack for California, meet my siblings and their families for dinner tonight, and try to get some sleep before our early morning flight tomorrow. But of course I had to stop in to see you guys!!
It was such a great week -- really better than we could have hoped for. It was so much fun for me to spend most of the week (Tuesday afternoon, all day Wednesday, and all day Thursday) with my mom, sister, and aunt -- we shopped (honeymoon clothes for me, wedding shoes and jewelry for them) and did all the last-minute wedding errands (folded and stuffed the programs, picked flowers for the reception centerpieces, decorated the reception hall, bought groceries for the rehearsal dinner picnic, etc.). What a great time I had with them!!
Bob's family started to arrive on Thursday, and I finally got to meet his brother Mark's family and his brother Pete's DW and DD. Pete is in the Navy and couldn't be here, but I loved meeting everyone else. His sisters-in-law and I hit it off right away, as I'd been told we would! The rest of Bob's family arrived on Friday, and the two families met at the rehearsal dinner that night.
The rehearsal was quick and painless -- our priest was his usual funny self. (More on that later.) The picnic was perfect -- beautiful weather so that the kids could all be outside, yay! Way more food than 50 people could eat, though.
Saturday morning ... the alarm went off at 5:00 a.m. My sister and I had to be at the church for hair and makeup at 6:30! Luckily, we got there before it rained, so I had no idea it rained at all yesterday until people told me later. I totally missed it!!
8:00 a.m., the pictures started, and by 8:30 a.m., I felt like I was "fake smiling" -- we'll see if we can tell when we get the pictures back. Our photographer was SO great; he was open to any suggestions that anyone had, so we got some pictures we didn't expect to get. I can't even tell you how many times my sister or I said "I blinked!" and had to retake the shot. I might need to make an "Oops, I blinked!" page in our scrapbook with all of those pictures!
People started arriving at the church about 9:30 a.m. -- WAY too early, but that always happens in my family. We finished up pictures by about 10:00 a.m., and I went to "hide" while the rest of the guests arrived. 10:25 a.m. came, and it was time to line up in the back of the church. I got there in time to hear the soloist singing "A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes," which surprised me a bit because that was supposed to start at 10:15. It made me wonder what had been going on before that -- just piano music, I'm guessing.
Three different cars pulled up while we were waiting for the processional began, so it was nice to see some of our friends arrive. One of them was my college friend Paul, who wrote our processional music ("Sandy's Song"), so I was REALLY glad he got there before that started! He wrote that song for me in 1991, and I've always hoped it could be played at my wedding "someday" -- so special to have it be our processional music.
Bob's sister Nancy and our friend Bonnie (some of you met Bonnie at last year's CT PP meet) did our readings, and I was fine -- no tears at all -- until Bonnie looked right at me when she read the last line of her reading: "Love never fails." I had to look away before the waterworks started.
Then came the vows, and here was the comic relief I needed at exactly the right moment. Our priest said, "Robert, do you take Sandra to be your lawfully wedded wife..." and paused just long enough to lure Bob in. Bob said, "I do!" and the priest, who hadn't finished the whole thing, said loudly, and without missing a beat, "Not yet!" The whole place burst into laughter, and it really was one of my favorite sounds the whole day. More than anything, I wanted our day to be about joy and laughter, and that was a classic moment that I won't soon forget. Bob later accused him of having pulled that trick before, and I'm certain that's true. The priest told us we were Wedding No. 2,111 -- kind of fun to know that little tidbit.
There was another wedding after ours, so we had to scram-ola and took only a couple outdoor pictures at the church. By that time, it was hot and steamy outside, so we (mostly I) decided to skip the outdoor pictures at the park and made do with the little patio outside the reception area at the hotel.
We did the cake pictures right away (cutting only; didn't do the feeding each other pictures), then we were announced as Mr. & Mrs., and because we hadn't done a receiving line at the church (no time!), we went to each table and greeted everyone. By the time we finished, lunch was ready (YUM!), then it was time for cake. Wow, was the cake good! We had some vanilla/Bavarian cream and some chocolate/chocolate mousse, both with buttercream frosting. Bob and I both preferred the chocolate, and that seemed to be the general consensus. We still have the top layer left, and we're taking it to dinner with my family tonight -- we're both hoping it's chocolate!
The reception music was lovely -- a couple weeks ago, the string quartet told me they still hadn't been able to find any Disney music, so I wasn't expecting any, but they had SO many songs! We heard Small World, a Beauty & the Beast medley, some from Cinderella, etc. SO awesome! You could hear little murmurs of recognition every time a Disney song started. Loved it!!
Speeches -- Bob's brother said something about deciding whether he should be silly or serious, but then realizing he should probably have been Goofy -- that was good. My sister started tearing up and said some lovely things about Bob. Bob stood up and thanked my parents for giving him "one of [their] jewels," which I thought was the absolute perfect thing to say. I had intended on saying a few words but chickened out at the last minute, and I'm sure I won't hear the end of that for years.
The reception was scheduled to last until 4:00 p.m., but everyone was pretty much gone by 3:00 p.m., so we snuck out and headed back to our room. That room, by the way, was the size of three hotel rooms and had a jacuzzi the size of a king bed. I greatly enjoyed my soak in that tub!! We both napped for a while, then got up about 5:30 and headed downstairs for the second party of the day. Bob's family usually does gift-opening the same day as the wedding (it's usually a morning-after brunch thing in my family), and with so many of our guests traveling this morning, it made sense to do it last night. We were overwhelmed with the generosity of our friends and family -- and it was so special for Bob and me to see the names of some of our PP friends on cards and gifts. I thought of you guys so many times yesterday, and I knew you'd be here thinking of us, too. Every time we'd say, "This is from another Disney friend!" our families would just smile and shake their heads in appreciation. (It was a little bit of that "You know these people from the internet?" look that I'm sure you've all seen!! LOL)
By the way, I wanted you all to know that you are all mentioned in our wedding program -- in our "Note to Our Guests," we included this paragraph:
"Thanks to Jennifer, Dave, and Uncle Walt for supplying the pixie dust. We quite simply never would have met without you. Thanks also to our Disney friends from PassPorter.com -- those who are here, and those who aren't. You've helped make our fairy tale even more magical. Mickey Bars for everyone!"
And we mean it!!
Gotta go -- I think my DH is ready to run some errands!
More when we get home next week!!

Re: Hello, thank you, and wedding report!
Isn't it fun to say "DH"!
First of all, I just want to say I'm so happy I'm from MN and could share in your special day. It's been so much fun getting to know Bob and watching your relationship. You two are so cute together! After we scrap at your house, I go home and remember what it's like to be newly in love (after 18 years of marriage, I'm embarrassed to say sometimes I need a little kick start to not take love for granted).
I'm glad you mentioned Bob's vows. I think it was one of my favorite parts of your day. Everyone thought it was so sweet. Also, I'm glad you didn't name names any of the other guests that arrived "minutes" before the ceremony started.
Have a wonderful honeymoon, can't wait to read all about it on the boards!
