As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

A sticky question, follow up to the \"Do you lose weight for the Mouse?\" thread.
I thought about posting this in the "feasting" forum but it seemed like too much of a downer! I read the thread about "do you lose weight for the mouse" (don't remember which forum), and saw a lot of folks here are weight-conscious, doing Weight Watchers, trying to eat healthy, etc. I am three weeks from getting "lifetime" at WW, my last meeting will be 2 days before we leave for Disney. I've worked hard, and lost over 30 lbs this year. (Closer to 50 since 2004, though some of it I had to lose twice!)
So, how do you manage to not go totally overboard on vacation, when there are treats everywhere? I don't intend to deprive myself, dh has an "ice cream every day of vacation" rule, which I heartily support. (Especially in FL!) I don't want to be a drag, or to be measuring and worrying all the time, but neither do I want to come back with so much of my hard work undone. We have always been "foodies" (that's how I found those 50 lbs!) and we have a bunch of ADRs for really great places, where the specialties ain't salad.
So, what do you do?

Re: A sticky question, follow up to the \"Do you lose weight for the Mouse?\" thread.
Most often, I find I actually weigh less when I return from WDW. Think about all that walking you are doing! If I want to splurge on something, I usually try to eat light for the remainder of the day. Moderation is the key- when you combine that with all that exercise, it's easier than you might expect to keep everything in check.
Of course, there have been one or two trips where I took a vacation from moderation....

Eat those nice meals you booked...but skip getting dessert at them and don't stuff yourself. Let that ice cream you spoke of be your sweets for the day. All that walking you will do will help keep the pounds off.

If you take your kid to the pool do a few laps while your there if it isn't too packed. All the walking is great too or if the pool is too crowded to swim laps walk in the pool which is a great exercise.

Re: A sticky question, follow up to the \"Do you lose weight for the Mouse?\" thread.
Instead of an ice cream, try a chocolate covered frozen banana! They also have fruit bars which will at least be low fat and are very refreshing in the FL heat. Also, when we eat out, we always share a dessert (except the chocolate wave at the Coral Reef... honey! ) Just remember that sometimes the portions are very large, so you don't have to clean your plate. And, you will be walking a LOT, too. I'm not a swimmer, but I do like to just walk around in the pool in the evenings...cools my feet/muscles and is exercise without being tiring.

Not stuffing yourself is key for me. When we went in December, I didn't gain anything, which is unusual for me as I usually gain weight at WDW. I just didn't over eat, and didn't feel the need to clean my plate everytime

You made me think of something...how do the servers feel about splitting portions/asking for an extra plate? B/c once something is on my plate, it rarely escapes unscathed...but if I was sharing it, say, with one of the kids, I wouldn't mind. We aren't doing the DDP, so it's not like I'm "required" to have all three courses to get the money's worth of it.

We've done a lot of meal shares and not only is it easier on your waistline, it's easier on your wallet too! The servers have no problems with splitting meals at the restaurants we shared at.

Not stuffing yourself is the secret - stop when your body tells you to. Eat slowly so your brain can catch up to your stomach. I take a bite, put down the fork and take a drink of water each time - it slows me down and I eat less. Good luck, and congrats on the weight loss!

Re: A sticky question, follow up to the \"Do you lose weight for the Mouse?\" thread.
When I went to WDW in 2002 I was on a diet and I was so worried about going to WDW and gaining all that I lost. I ended up coming home weighing LESS! I could not believe it. Sadly I gained it all back cause I gave up. Anyway...with all the walking I did and sharing meals with my sister I think I balanced myself out.

Re: A sticky question, follow up to the \"Do you lose weight for the Mouse?\" thread.
What everyone has said is so true! Eat in moderation, share meals, ask for a to go box at the beginning of the meal (even if you don't plan on taking it with you) and put half the meal in the box. Then it will be off your plate and you'll be less tempted to eat it. Eat more slowly and give your body a chance to tell you it's full.
By no means should you totally deprive yourself. That's when you'll end up in BIG trouble.
I've lost the same weight so many times it isn't even funny. But I'm back at it again. Hopefully this time for good.
Good Luck!

Re: A sticky question, follow up to the \"Do you lose weight for the Mouse?\" thread.
Congratulations on your weight loss! I'm a fellow WW Lifetime member after loosing a total of 70lbs. In the 3 trips I have taken since starting WW, I have never had much of a problem with keeping the weight off while vacationing. First off, you will be doing a TON of walking and depending on what time of year you go- a ton of sweating. I just always make sure I stick to nothing but water to drink and eat sensibly. We are huge eaters at WDW, but I try to eat slowly and really enjoy the experience. That will help you feel full faster while still enjoying every bite!

Wow, Valerie, you look amazing--if that's what lifetime looks like, I'm ready! (Course you're also about 15 years younger than me I think...) Congrats on your loss, and clearly, changing your life and health for the better. Thanks for the encouragement, it's good to hear from someone who's been there, done that.

Re: A sticky question, follow up to the \"Do you lose weight for the Mouse?\" thread.
If all goes well I will have reached lifetime on WW by our trip also, so congrats on the hard work! I don't plan to overdo it and do not intend to eat til I feel like I want to die, but I also don't want to worry about counting every little thing I put in my mouth that week (especially since I will be POFQ and everyone keeps telling me to try the Beignets). But I think with all the walking and swimming I will work off a lot of it, but the thing to remember is you don't have to be a member of the clean plate club. Eat what you want and move on. Good luck!!!!
