As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Souvenirs
One cannot possibly visit WDW without buying a few souvenirs. Here are a few shopping questions that I have:
Do you buy the typical t-shirts and stuffed animals to remember your visit, or something more original?
Do you get on the plane with an idea of the treasure you are hunting for?
Do you have a special collection of souvenires that you add too with each trip?
Now the important question, do you drive your loved one crazy looking for that special keepsake?

Re: Souvenirs
Well, we definitely buy T shirts. We look for original designs, ones we haven't seen everyone wearing. And a few stuffed animals.
This year I know that we will be discussing what pins we will be able to trade and buy at WDW. We already have 'pin fever' and are looking forward to trading a lot!
My kids also have a key chain collection going, so you know we'll pick up a few of those.
As for DH and me, we like to browse through the different country offerings in Epcot to see the beautiful wares. We don't look for anything in particular; we just wait for inspiration to strike! We both love to shop and are thrilled when we find unusual items.
Just thinking about it makes me want to be there now...

Re: Souvenirs
I go for the round metal key chains! This past trip in Feb I bought a MK 2000 & a Rock-n-rollercoaster one from MGM. In Sept I will pick up a AK & Epcot one! Didn't want to over do it!
Also I picked up some Antenna Mickey head balls to give out.....
I also like to collect cloth patches from the different parks.

I would collect cloth patches too, except that means I would have to sew them somewhere! I get enough of that with a Boy Scout, a Cub Scout and a Scout Leader in the family! LOL

Re: Souvenirs
That is fantastic Cruella! You are a scouting family! Both my husband and son are Eagle Scouts...
I have my patches on a Disney Jean Jacket but am going to convert them all over to my all purpose backpack !

Re: Souvenirs
T-Shirts are number one. I'm sure everyone knows to get the kind that say "WDW" or "EPCOT" or that kind of thing. Otherwise you could find that shirt at TDS. Other favorites include: Coffee Cups, Hats, Autographs, and anything else that reminds you of your adventure.

Re: Souvenirs
I usually try to find a t-shirt for my husband that doesn't scream DISNEY. He would rather not wear anything that advertises any company. I, on the other hand own nothing but Disney clothes.
Last year we brought back the greatest gift for my mother. She had these Christmas ornaments from her mother that were beginning to dwindle(old age), so my daughter and I went to Germany in Epcot and picked out some traditional German decorations. Including a pickle that is German traditon to hang on your tree. She loved them!!

Re: Souvenirs
I am a sweatshirt collector, so that is what I always look for. Being from upstate NY, I can wear them year round. My favorite ones to date are from The Yacht Club and Wilderness Lodge. I think this year I may get one from TOT unless another one strikes my fancy.
I also need a new Disney watch, so I will be on the look out for something unique.
Take care-
Laura

Re: Souvenirs
When I go I try to pick up a Christmas ornament for my tree or a t-shirt/or a good sweatshirt-they last forever. I love coffee and I usually buy a new mug & I have a lot of Disney magnets on my fridge too.

Re: Souvenirs
We saved park maps and other paper products that we came upon during our trip (for scrap book). Cheap souveniers and really fun to look back at. We bought a t-shirt for each of us, each choosing something that meant something to them (and after looking around during the week). The kids each bought a couple toys, and we bought some trading pins, and I got a mug to use at work. We never have been into buying souveniers all that much, so for us that was a lot.

Re: Souvenirs
I am a huge collector of Disney water globes. I try to pick up a new globe each visit that I make. I also get them from the Disney store and catalog so I try to pick out an extra special one to help me to remember the trip. My last globe was the Villian globe that I got when we were there last February.

Re: Souvenirs
Every year we look for a christmas ornament that is special for that year or vacation! It makes a nice memory when we decorate our tree to relive that special time each ornament was from.
My DW also loves music boxes so I keep an eye out for ones that are unusual!
Maggiemay - Germany was a great place for ornaments!! We got some beautiful handblown glass ornaments there one year! They always bring back Great memories!!

Re: Souvenirs
We also look for that special Xmas ornament for the tree (because I do have one tree that is all Disney). We also try to get a magnet or two to add to our collection on the fridge. I have been collecting pins for many years now and look forward to the "chaos" down there that surrounds this craze. I wear my pins on my jean jacket and sometime I wonder if it is worth its weight.

My husband gave me a charm bracelet for my birthday 2 years ago, so this year I am going to get a charm for my bracelet.
