As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Anti-nausea aids?
On our past cruise, we packed sea bands -- which proved to be helpful for my husband.
What aids (if any) do you use or recommend?

I have to ask as I am not sure of what they are ..What are sea Bands? where can i find them? How do you use them?
As far as other kinds I have been told dramamine and bonine. I haven't tried either yet so I am not sure how much they work but have seen them recommended for a while.

Re: Anti-nausea aids?
I use Motion-Eaze. It's an herbal oil that you can rub behind your ears and it works! I get seasick when sailing in the ocean. In May I did a sailboat delivery from CT to NJ. I was so afraid I would get sick during the ocean portion. I used the Motion-Eaze and I was fine for the first time ever. I got this at my local West Marine store but you can also get it online at: http://www.motion-sickness.net/

Amy....I had a bad experience with Dramamine. It put me to sleep. You might want to try it out ahead of time. The Seasick Bands are basically elastics that you wear on your wrist that have little plastic knobs on them that put pressure on your wrist. I have them but I can't wear them for very long. They start to hurt and get uncomforatble. If you want to see what they are, go to: www.westmarine.com and in the search type: Motion. They'll come up and you can see them. I would recommend the Motion Eaze over anything else. Not sure about the bonine. I've never used that.

I used the Sea Bands when I was pregnant and had severe nausea and they really worked great!! Glad to hear that they work great with sea-sickness too.

Re: Anti-nausea aids?
Lori, Thanks for the tip. I'm hoping it might come in handy later this year.
I've taken Dramamine for little boat rides in the past, and it does in fact make you very tired. Think Benedryl side-effects and you know what it's like. You may want to have some in your luggage, but I don't know if you'll want to use it unless things get bad.

Re: Anti-nausea aids?
I am the Universal Empress of Motion Sickness (that means I've thrown up all over the world ). Just *thinking* about the Amalfi drive along the Italian coast makes me queasy. Space Mountain...
So, the thought of a cruise ship rolling around on the high seas did NOT sound like such a great thing. I took bonine (non-drowsy dramamine) **BEFORE** boarding (and one per day after), then ginger capsules and Hylands Motion Sickness tablets about every 3-4 hours and I was fine (with 16-18ft swells and 25 crew members sick).
I did have to continue the ginger off ship b/c they ground was still moving for 3 more days! I'm glad we don't have photographic evidence of the 4 of us sitting at the Coral Reef, rocking and rolling!
BTW, they also suggest taking a bonine just to see how you will respond well before the trip. I have a history of meds making me very sleepy, so this was a concern for me. There was a slight light headedness, but not at all uncomfortable and not drowsy in the least.

Re: Anti-nausea aids?
Dramamine (the original formula) will make you dizzy. The best over-the-counter motion sickness preventative is meclizine - brand name Bonine or Dramamine II. It is important to take it before boarding! Once you are seasick, it won't do you much, if any, good. Ginger in all forms can help ease motion sickness (ginger tablets, ginger ale, etc.). People do report good effects with the Sea Bands, which are terry cloth elasticized bracelets that place pressure on an acupressure point on your wrist. Buy them before sailing as they are a bit pricey onboard.

Re: Anti-nausea aids?
I took the non-drowsy dramamine. I've also taken those soft round pink peppermints (they used to be called 'Canada Mints' and I've only been able to get them at K-Mart or Walmart). Peppermint is a wonderful way to help ease nausea.
Haven't tried the sea bands. Maybe next time.

Re: Anti-nausea aids?
Thank you guys for all of these suggestions. We've done the Disney cruise twice and while I've never gotten sick, my poor husband did both times. Believe it or not, he has agreed to go again in December. We've tried the sea bands, didn't work for him, Bonine and Dramamine (only put him to sleep). This time we are trying the scop patch. His doctor gave him a prescription for it, we'll see how that goes.

Re: Anti-nausea aids?
Thanks for all the responses.
Where do you purchase ginger capsules? I have heard of people using these & ginger mints -- but have not seen them available for purchase.
I used Dramamine on my first-ever flight years and years ago -- and it made me terribly sick. So I am leary of ever using it or anything of it's sort again.

Re: Anti-nausea aids?
Transderm Scop has a few undesirable side effects. For instance it can cause dry mouth, blurred vision and fuzzy thinking. Can. Scopalamine was used during WW II as a truth serum. In extreme cases it can cause delusions and hallucinations. Use care when handling one and always wash your hands throughly after touching the medicated side of one.
Like all medications, it has to be used with some caution and attention.

Re: Anti-nausea aids?
Wow Dillon, thanks for the information. I'll pass this on to my husband. Maybe he should try one at home first, wouldn't want to have a bad vacation!
