Forums Closed
|
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

My Anniversary/ See Donna again, meet Cindy trip! Finished!
[b]Cast of characters: Me and Muffin!! Then! Just Me!
Dates: September 22-28th
Resorts: AKL (of course!) Then POFQ for me! (A first!)
How this trip came about:
First, we decided that we wanted to go away for our anniversary this year. We couldn't decide where and I, of course, wanted to go to WDW. Muffin said he'd come, but he really didn't want to! Then we cancelled it because we were moving and just had too much else going on!
Then! We sold our house and things were looking up, so we rebooked it!
Next! We had a world of trouble with Christopher this summer and decided we just couldn't go anywhere very far so we cancelled it again.
Things settled down with Chris a few weeks ago and we decided that if we didn't go on a vacation, we'd both have a nervous breakdown. First, we checked into going to New York for a long weekend . It was going to cost us $400 for a show, $200 for a hotel room for two nights (with a discount!), and at least another $300 for two nice dinners!
So, we looked into going to New Orleans for the weekend . That didn't work out either financially and you have no idea how grateful I am about that
Then, the next morning, Muffin came up to me and said, "Oh fine, I'll go." I honestly had no idea what he was talking about but then he started dancing around and making mouse ears! So! We rebooked once again and actually wound up:
A) Upgrading to AKL! ( The price was amazing!)
B) Not paying a penalty for airfare because for some reason, I forgot to cancel that and the prices went down big time!
C) Decided to stay one less night because even though things were better, we still felt funny both being away for more than three nights.
Muffin rented a car becasue we are control freaks in the transportation department.
So! Last week we went down to Atlantic City for the day and guess what?!?! I won $1,575!!!!!!!!!!!! ( I know, there's something wrong with me! ) I got to thinking and told Muffin that I would put $1,000 in the savings acoount if he would let me extend my stay by three nights! I did not expect him to say yes but he did!!!!! Of course, he didn't want to stay the extra nights but said 'Oh sure, go ahead!!'
So now, I am staying three nights at AKL with my honey and then three nights at POFQ with my friends!! Look out Cindy and Donna!!
On top of this, it cost me a total of 350 bucks to do this including changing my flight again ($40), renting a car for the extra days ($10 more through Hotwire) and the resort ($300 for three nights)! Not too bad!!
The details:
We are staying at beautiful AKL for three whole nights and we really don't have alot of plans! We are eating at Coral Reef for dinner on September 24th, which is my 22nd Anniversary. Other than that, we plan to try and hit all of the parks and we'll see how it goes.
I am taking Muffin back to the airport on Sunday evening and then heading over to POFQ. I am really excited about this as I have never stayed at this resort and it looks quite charming! I am looking forward to finding my way around at it.
At first, I had a real problem with not making plans! I having stuff to look forward to. But after Muffin decided to let me stay down for three extra nights, I just decided that I would get done whatever I really wanted to, but didn't, while he was there. We have tons of plans for our Christmas trip anyway!
I am very much looking forward to seeing Donna again and meeting Dan, Cindy and Tom! When I first started thinking about what I would do with all of my extra time, I looked into going to Discovery Cove for a day. It looks wonderful, but also like a place that I would like to share, so I passed on that. Then I also looked into going to USF for a day! I am having a Mummy craving so bad, but in the end, decided that I could wait until the end of November. I think I would really just like to relax and enjoy seeing Donna again and meeting Cindy!
I am definitely planning on a DTD stop,as I must try Earl of Sandwich this trip also! Also, I think I will go to tea at the GF again, if I can get in.
That's about all I have so far! We'll see if I can stick this out or if I flip and make some ADRS in the end!
I also must go to the Adventurer's Club at least once and go to the Comedy Club!
[b]I also can't wait to see Tina, Janine and the boys again!!

You'll love POFQ -- it's my fav moderate... say hello to Scales the Sea Serpent. Tell him that Calder will be there in December!
Can't wait to read all about your trip when you get back!
