As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Everybody Contribute!
I read a post about Door County, WI and had never heard of it. I went to their website and the place is gorgeous and someplace I would like to visit.
This got me to thinking!
Why don't we all post places from our state or elsewhere that might be off the beaten path or places such as Door County (I guess because I am from the south I have never heard of this beautiful place). Places we have visited or would like to visit - let's share!
Some of my favorite places (most you have probably heard of)I have been to are: Catalina Island off the coast of California. Volcano National Park in Hawaii. US Space and Rocket Centet in Huntsville, AL. Burritt Museum and Monte Sano State Park both in Huntsville, AL.

Re: Everybody Contribute!
Madison County NY...every August they have a huge antiques flea market with a thousand dealers in the middle of a big field (fun last year in the mud... ) We go on Friday night, stay at a country inn a few towns away and have a great time! Even if we don't buy alot, it's still fun to see all the neat stuff. (But, of course, we do buy alot!)

Re: Everybody Contribute!
Just got back from a few days in Rehoboth Beach, Deleware. It is a nice little beach town with a boardwalk with games and rides (mostly for younger kids). The town itself has a lot of neat shops and restaurants. We love to just bum around and eat on the boardwalk - fried chicken from Gus & Gus and french fries from Thrasher's.

Re: Everybody Contribute!
Places to go in Minnesota: Well...
Ely- town with specialty shops and a major bonus is the International Wolf Center. (Anyone that loves wolves HAS to go there...it is AMAZING!)
Duluth- a port town. Lots of fun stuff to see in the area around Duluth (like a radius of 80 miles there are waterfalls, lighthouses, fishing villages, and such!)
Curry, MN- not really a huge place to visit, but they have a really neat train museum type thing. I haven't been there since I was like 9 but it was really neat (I hope it is still there)
Brainerd- the supposed home of Paul Bunyan (if not brainerd than Bemidji). It is your average town with perks like Paul Bunyan Land (an amusement park) and the Paul Bunyan trail. A bunch of history type stuff.

Mystic CT- Seaport, Aquariam, and the Famous Mystic Pizza Restaurant.
North Cannon CT and the Litchfield Hills- Limerock Raceway, Antique shops, and lots of nice foliage in the Fall
Newport RI, Point Judith, and Block Island RI are near my house as well. Lots of sea/beach things! Newport has the Mansions.

Well I don't doubt that Texas is beautiful I will have to say (since I am a native Washingtonian) my most favorite place is Quinault Rain Forest you can rough it camping in the National Forest or visit Lake Quinault Lodge. We usually go camping...it's so peaceful and B-E-A-U-tiful!!

Re: Everybody Contribute!
Hi, fellow Alabamian!
Most of my favs aren't really OFF the beaten path, but precious to me nonetheless:
>>Boston... just returned from a trip last month and fell in love with that town! So clean, rich in history, and its citizens could not have been more friendly or helpful.
>>Charleston, SC... where we spent part of our honeymoon. (Can you tell I'm a history buff?) Stayed in a B&B called the John Rutledge Inn (one of the signers of the Declaration) and it was lovely as was the city itself.
>>Garden of the Gods in CO... absolutely beautiful and I have fond memories of horseback riding there.
>>Kiawah Island, SC... where we spent the remaining portion of our honeymoon. Very serene. Had never seen deep gray sand before. Turtles nesting, jeep jaunts around the island.
Danielle, I grew up in North AL and my father retired from NASA so I spent quite a bit of my childhood at the Space and Rocket Center. And a few youth group expeditions to the Monte Sano State Park too!

Re: Everybody Contribute!
I did my honeymoon at Mackinac Island in the UP. They don't allow cars on the island and the whole thing is very old fashioned and lovely. It was so romantic!

Re: Everybody Contribute!
The Island of Torcello near Venice. It has a gorgeous 9th Century cathedral (Santa Maria Assunta). And the mosaics are to die for! 45 minutes by boat from the mainland, it might as well be on another planet. It's the quietest, most serene place I've ever been to

Re: Everybody Contribute!
Some Louisiana spots:
-St. Francisville (30-45 mins. north of Baton Rouge) has plantation homes, many springtime azaleas
-Jackson Square in New Orleans...have beignets & coffee at Cafe du Monde and visit St. Louis Cathedral
-South Louisiana has some very, very beautiful plantation & antebellum homes all along the Mississippi river

Re: Everybody Contribute!
Michigan has many beautiful resort towns along Lake Michigan. Grand Haven, Holland, Saugatuck, and Ludington just to name a few. The sunset is breathtaking over the lake and the white sand beaches are very inviting for a walk along the shore. Don't know if these are exactly "off the beaten path" but they are definitely worth consideration if you have not had the pleasure of a visit.

Re: Everybody Contribute!
What a great thread!
There are actually many beautiful places to visit in Minnesota. Stillwater which is right along the St. Croix River and a stone's throw from Wisconsin is a very beautiful little town to visit. The downtown area has some very quant shops and if you venture a little further up to the Taylor's Falls area, you can get in some fantastic hiking and rock climbing. Another nice area is Red Wing which was home to the Red Wing Pottery Company. There are many nice antique shops in the area and it is beautiful as well as it is near the river. Another fun area to visit is Harmony which is an Amish settlement in southeastern Minnesota. And of course, Minnesota is home to 10,000 beautiful lakes, so there is no shortage of boating, fishing, or simply laying out on one of the many beaches scattered throughout the state. For more info on Minnesota, you can visit: Explore Minnesota
