Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Zero Tolerance ~ WARNING~ BIG vent!!! Hot topic!!

Wednesday, Jamie came home from school & was visibly upset.. he told me a good friend of his was jumped & beat up at lunch.. After hearing the story I felt bad for the boy but was confident the school would handle it correctly.. as Derek (Jamie's friend) NEVER fought back or retaliated in any way ( he actually couldn't because he was on the ground being kicked & punched )

Yesterday I went to lunch with my friend who works at the middle school (where Jamie goes) & when I asked her about the fight she said yes, Derek was jumped & the boy who beat him up got a 10 day suspension plus charges filed & has to appear in front of the magistrate... and then proceeded to say Derek got a 3 day suspension.. I was livid & questioned why he would be suspended when he was jumped & NEVER fought back.. she said the principal explained it to Dereks mom (who also works at the school) as "zero tolerance: If you're INVOLVED in any kind of fight EVERYONE gets suspended!~ Derek was involved so he has to be suspended too..!!"

Is that not the most ridiculous rule you've ever heard????? I came home sooo angry & when I told Jim he too was livid & told Jamie if he's ever in any altercation to fight back with everything he's got since he's going to be suspened anyway... (I don't agree with that!!!)

What is your schools policy on fighting?? I thought that schools were to protect kids from being bullied....

I'm not familiar enough with our school's policy on bullying since DD is only in Kindergarten, but that sounds absolutely ridiculous Ann! If he didn't fight back, or didn't egg the kid on to attack him, it sounds like he's being punished unfairly!

Our school has a zero tolerance policy - on bullying!! When Sarah got punched on the playground - the boys involved were punished, even those who were only verbally teasing - not just the one that punched her!

Sarah did push to get away, and she did not get into trouble - it says right in the student handbook definition - The bullying is likely to cause a violent, even physical, reaction in the person being bullied.

My school was the same way with the zero tolerence. It sucks for the person who didn't start it!

That is crazy, if he did not fight back he should not be punished. You caould say he is being punished twice, he is in pain and bruised and now suspended. I can't say I blame your son for how he is thinking, if your going to be suspended, he may as fight back and not take it. It may be wrong, but it is also wrong to get punished cause why? you took a beating by the others? I can understand the 0 tolerance, but what was he supposed to do? I don't even have kids and hearing this is really making me hot.
I am sending Derek some pixie dust too.

It's been so long, but I thought our school district had a similar policy, but it was an ISS in the office and was wiped from the record at the end of the year if nothing more happened.

My "students" fight all the time and I have a 0 tolerance policy so they get IRS (in ROOM suspension!!! ) and I am quite *unreasonable* about it! It is NOT a democracy, after all!

Yup are school has the same thing....the say it's to give the kids time to "cool" off. I think that if the kid didn't provoke or start it or fight back then he shouldn't be punished in any way.

I don't know what school administators are thinking. A boy in my sons school punched and bit a teacher last week and he not only DID NOT get in trouble-his father accused the teacher of PROVOCKING (sp)him. Isn't that crazy!!! Some school yard fights will happen, but if my child is hurt by one of these "emotionally challenged" kids, the entire district will have to answer to me. OH- my sons school is for 1st and 2nd grade only----this child is 6-what's he going to do at 16!!!!

First of all, I think I would die if somebody smacked my kid at school. All you moms that went through that, I'm so sorry.
Suspending the kid who was the victim is just nuts. I understand that sometimes it's one kid's word against another, but in this case they clearly knew the other kid was at fault because his sentence was so much greater. I'd be p.o.ed if I was that mom.

Re: Zero Tolerance ~ WARNING~ BIG vent!!! Hot topic!!

DS was bullied in 7th and 8th grade. The principal told me that it was his fault and that he should be put on medication because he was to sensitive and kind. He also said the bullies were just being boys. I don't know about any of you but that is not how I raised my boy to be cruel to other people. Yes, the man is insane, and I am quite convinced he is not the only one out there. With this kind of irrational thought is it any wonder that some kids snap.

DS had fought back with one of the bullies but nothing happened because no adults saw it. I told DS, who is not normally a fighter, to verbally use a few choice words to bring attention to the problem, yes I gave him permission to cus. These incidents were always happening in the classroom. Where were the teachers? Who knows. I told him that if he got suspended so be it. Well a couple of times he told the bully to shut the F&** up. I get this call from the principal telling me that DS said the F word and how he used it and that was not excepted at that school. I replied Good! He did exactly what his mama told him to do. This idiot was shocked that I would tell my child to do such a thing. I told him if it was the only way he could defend himself then so be it. I also asked him why cussing was not excepted but constant relentless harrassment was. He had no answer for me.

Anyways to make a very long story short I wrote three letters to the Superintendent and removed my son from that school into charter school. The principal was fired at the end of the school year. My son was not the only kid this was happening to.

I work for the school district my kids are in and it still did not protect my son from adults being irresponsible. You entrust your children for up to 7 hours a day to these people. Your kids have the right to be safe.

To this very day DS hates school because of all the crap he went through. He is now in the continuation high school where I work and is doing much better. He graduates this year and can't wait to get out of school.

I think that is just terrible. Something needs to be done! When innocent children are punished, who knows what effect this can have.Since when do bullies get more rights??
