when i started planning our trip last september, i was told i could only book it if i scrimped and saved for it. So i did. The package is all payed for, i have my paypal debit card for the gas down and i have $2500US in my account to spend. so my husband says to me last night, don't think you're spending all that, I want to change some back to Canadian to put in the bank. ???????HUH????????? I scrimped and saved for that cash so i could spend it in disney, why the heck would i want to put it in the savings account to pay bills? lol. I think the problem is i'm a spend it today cause you could be dead tomorrow and he's a don't spend anything, save every dime for tomorrow. I guess i could just humour him and spend it anyway lol

Everyone once in a while I think "why in the world am I spending all of this money on Disney? I should be putting more money into our retirement fund, or the boys' college funds, or we could get new carpet or siding or whatever for the house." Then I look at MIL/FIL they scrimped and saved all of their lives and have accumulated quite a bit of money but he has Parkinsons and they can't do anything, all of their plans to travel "one day" never came to pass. Later in life DSs will not remember the home improvement projects we have done throughout the years but they will remember our WDW vacations.

I'm am so with you on that one! I do believe in saving some, BUT, I also believe that if we don't do things now, we never will. I don't want the kids and I to say we wished we did "something", or we should have gone somewhere. The home improvements will be there when we get back and we can get a loan for college if they need it when they get there. My parents did not pay for my college education, so any help we give them is a bonus. I say let's take a trip!

I so know what you are talking about! DH is a compulsive saver and hates to spend any of our savings but my thinking is that that is exactly what that money is there for!

Fortunately we don't have that problem in our house. We both love to spend our money on Disney and we just never have enough. I must admit though that saving for Disney is a great incentive - like you, we always seem to end up with lots in there!

We're not all like that. I have $10 in my savings account right now because I spend it as fast as I get it!

But I have been saving Disney Dollars toward my next trip (which will be in April).

roflmao be glad you are't married to me willcad, i could spend $1000 in a week and not be able to tell one single thing that i bought lol. We own our own business and it's a huge pain in the hiney. I work only to have the pleasure of spending the cash, otherwise, why the heck work?? when i'm 70 i won't enjoy the freedom to do alot with the cash (muscular/skeletal degeneration) i want to enjoy it now while i can

If it wasn't for me saving money for any of our vacations we would have never gone anywhere. DH is not the saver in our house.

And why not spend it on Disney, you saved it for Disney so spend it on Disney. For those of us who only go once in a while part of the fun is saving that money.

Tell your DH to live a little, you will always have bills to pay no matter what but, how often do you really get to have the Disney magic and fun.

I used to be a spend it all - then I started trying to buy a house - and that has forced me to save - while saving for the birthday cruise/WDW trip = which I have now completely paid for with Disney Dollars/AAA savings card and cash. This is a first for me to have more than 10 dollars in my savings acct.

You're gonna spend it: in DISNEY!!!! I think you should just keep it all and do what you planned to do with it. He didn't scrimp and save you did. Do what you want with it.

My DH has no clue how much money we have anywhere or how much the trip is costing. I shudder when I think that he'll see the prices on the menu, although he did see them last year, but we won that trip, so I'm not sure he's insulated enough yet!

I say, if you saved it, you get to spend it on what you like. I've been saving change and singles and all that is *my* WDW money for all the hard work I've done *to* save it, by gum and by golly!

My DH also could not tell you how much money we have in the bank, or how much any of our trips have cost. I came into this relationship as the saver (minus a few things...like jewelry and trips ), and he came in as the spender.

When it comes to trips, my philosophy is that if I keep saying "Someday I want to go to XYZ", eventually, someday will become never. Isn't the most important part of life, to live it?

As long as you aren't putting yourself in debt, spend that money and have a great time. Or, stop him before he orders something at a restaurant at WDW and say, "Um, sorry, you can't eat. I've decided to take the cost of your meal at this restaurant and convert it back to Canadian to pay the electric bill." (But I'm a sicko like that! )

Oh I so understand your situation!! My DH is the most compulsive saver I have ever known. It took me about 6 years to convince him to go to Disney. His comment, "when we have enough money." My answer to him was always, "what if I was gone tomorrow and you never knew what it was like to have a vacation?" Sometime you just got to take a leap and go. Now my son has memories of Disney that he would have never been able to have if I didn't push. THe very first year we were supposed to go, his job talked about a possible lay-off. He panicked of course and said the Disney trip was off, could we get our money back. You have never seen a woman loose her cool like I did that afternoon. (I guess my Cajun temper got the best of me ). I absolutely told him I was going with or without him and taking my son with me. He just looked at me and said you would do it,wouldn't you? I said, "Nobody stands in my way when it comes to Disney."
Needless to say, this was the trip he realized how much Disney means to me and how magical it really is.
I guess my point to all of this is, yes it is good to save, but it is also important to enjoy life. If you have the means at that moment to take an extra journey, do it, because you will never get that moment back. The best memories are made from the most unexpected events.
