Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

School Update

As some of you know I've had issues with the University I go to this year. It seems it was one thing after another with them and each time I only got angrier for their lack of professionalism.

Good news! I finally got to talk to the head of appeals for Financial Aid and they gave me back my financial aid! They thought that I'd failed my politics class and therefore took my aid away. I had to explain to her that my professor took it upon himself to fail me when I should have gotten an "IN". She agreed saying that he could have given me the "IN," and then ask that I present proof of my family emergency when I took the final.

She immediately posted me as "approved," that very day!! I was SO relieved!

This financial aid package was the best I'd ever been given. Most ALL of it is "free," money. They took away my pell grant due to his foolish actions! If I'd not gotten that back, I'd have gotten an attorney for certain.

What also made me feel better was meeting with a woman in the "conflict resolution," office. She was the first person I met with that not only felt I was justified in being angry, but pointed out that my professor was unprofessional to bring his wife into the situation.

My right to NOT have everyone know my personal situation was violated and they weren't timely in handling my circumstances as I'd made it clear I wanted to take the final ASAP. As it is it will be three months later that I take it.

I let her know I wanted it known BEFORE I took the final that I take issue in the way in which he conducted his class AND the way my situation was handled. This way if I get an unsatisfactory grade due to the delay or because he gives me an unfair i.e. "rigged" test, I won't have anyone saying I'm upset due to not doing well on my final versus because he was a poor teacher. I told her I question his integrity greatly not only because he had his wife handle things for him, but because he LIED about my not wanting to provide him with documentation.

Still, things have gotten resolved in some way and after I take the test I will be filing a formal complaint against the professor. I want this to be "on the record," in case another student has a "run in," with him.

Amber I am so glad to hear that you have finally gotten some satisfaction. Good for you that you made your position on his ethics known BEFORE taking the final.
Is there a way that they can document this in his file so that another student would not have to go through it?

Good Luck!!

Yes, there is a way that it can be known that there have been complaints made against him. He already has more then one complaint on file, so I'm simply adding to it.

You know its bad when in having a friend mention it to a professor they're told "Oh that guy, yeah...he's had issues in the past."

I don't wish this man any ill will despite it all. However, I will not let it slide that he lied, he was rude, and completely ignored my initial attempts to talk to him.

I think he believes since his wife is a respected professor at my school, that it means he can do what he pleases as a visiting professor(he teaches primarily out of a local community college).

The school needs to make sure in getting all of this new funding and with enrollment going sky high they don't start slacking off on whom they allow to teach. This is the 4th professor I've had in a year that was a last minute fill in, did not ever teach the course subject, or that had NO control over the class. One of my "professors," let all of the students talk over and disrespect her to the point that she'd sigh and say "Well, I guess I'll just let all of you do as you please then!" I was stunned! Reprimand these "kids," for goodness sakes! Don't take that!
You see out university is now 65% freshman and 35% upperclass which means there are quite literally "kids" mixed in with those of us in our mid-late 20's or older.

Some of the professors are "fighting back," by treating all of us like dirt and others are simply handing out "A's" and "B's" without much effort being put in. I'm being cheated out of a good education and I'm not taking it anymore.

I hope that my professors are up to par in the Fall. If course material isn't presented in a way as to actually educate us, I WILL complain. I'll not have a degree knowing I'm no brighter then when I entered it.

Re: School Update

Good for you for sticking up for yourself!
And thank goodness for your financial aid being reinstated. So frustrating to have to fight for things but in the long run, once you've graduated I hope the negative memories will fade...but the ink on the paper won't!

I am very glad to hear that you were able to meet with someone who finally listened to you and was able to take some positive action in your case. Good luck on your exam and hope the final resolution is also positive.

Re: School Update

Amber I was wondering how this had turned out. Everyone I talked to about this was appalled by the way your professor handled all of it. Sounds like you are handling it the right way. I'm so glad you were able to keep your grants. I know I have to battle the financial aid office at Lamar every SINGLE semester. They always *forget* that I am there on scholarship (they claim there is nothing in my file) so I have to take proof to them every semester. Good luck on your test. Hopefully your professor will at least be fair in his grading on it. I would definitely file a formal complaint - he needs this on his permanent record!

I'm glad to hear about the financial aid and that you'll be getting this situation all worked out! And it's totally a good idea to have this all on the record--that professor sounded absolutely horrible. Good luck on the final, too!

I'm glad to hear you're finally getting some good news.

Here's hoping the prof doesn't pull a scum-bag trick of rigging the final on you.

You GO GIRL! Hope you CRUSH that final just as an "in your face" to that lousy scumbag. And it sounds like the university has policies in place to allow you to resolve this type of thing. Stay on top of it and let us know how things turn out.
