Forums Closed
|
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Help, You Guys!!! Disney Trivia Experts Needed!!!
Okay, here's the problem...a little further down in this post is a picture of a WWII War Bond bordered with Disney characters. What's driving me crazy is: Who's the baby in the center of the bottom border??? Does anybody know??? HELP!!!!
Indy Meet
Who: LilMarcieMouse (Marcie) & Dsis Sue, ripkensnana (Carol) & DH Robert, Jorguss (Pat) & DD Chelsea
Where: Indianapolis State Museum
When: 6/12/04
***This is Carol - I'll be adding my two cents' worth here and there...you'll know it's me, cuz I'll start my comments with *** - and sometimes I'll remember to end them that way as well! ***
I woke up this morning to the rumbles of thunder. This is not what I wanted to hear.
***Me, either! The Weather Channel lied!!! They'd predicted only a 20% chance of rain after 9 a.m....BTW, Bob and I got to Indy at about 8 p.m. local time on Friday evening and got a room at a Days Inn. I had a rather fitful sleep...kept waking up...I think it must have been the excitment! ***
This meant we could not do the Zoo.
***Bummer!!! ***
I got up and went to my sister’s room to watch the Wiggles. I had to wait for the thunder to quit before I could shower.
After I showered I went to get my Passporter shirt and couldn’t find it. It was hiding in the closet be hind another shirt when I finally found it. About 9:10 am we were off. I had my phone I was all set. When we got near the Museum it looked as if it would clear up so I was going to try and call Pat to say we were going to the Zoo. But it started to rain.
I then noticed I had a call from Carol too. I listened to message she was at the Visitors center next to the Museum and would wait for us. I thought she was waiting at the Center. I called the Number that was on my phone and someone at the Center answered. I said I was looking for someone who used the phone to call. The Girl told me that it was the Parents of the Bride and they had left. I was think OooK not who I was looking for, so I thanked her and hung up.
*** "Parents of the Bride"??? I'm sure I told Marcie that we'd be at the Museum, but I could be mistaken. Anyway, we made our way to the underground parking ramp, entered the Museum, and were immediately met by Pat! She said she thought that Marcie had tried to call her, but that she couldn't figure out how to get her phone to work...We chatted for a bit...Pat had already purchased her tickets, so we went ahead and bought ours...While at the Visitors' Center, I'd picked up some pamphlets that had $ off coupons for various attractions located in White River State Park (where the Museum and Zoo are located as well as other neat things). Prior to getting to the park, Bob and I drove around Monument Circle (in the very center of Downtown Indy) so I could see my Great-Great Grandfather (I'm not going to explain...If you're curious, you'll just have to ask ).***
Sis and I went to the Visitors Center to see if we could find them. But alas we couldn’t.
***That's cuz we were already at the Museum ***
We found our way back to the museum and were about 10 min late. Carol, Robert, Pat and her DD were waiting but easy to spot. You couldn’t miss Carol and her Disney Shirt.
***Just because it was bright fuschia??? ***
We made the introductions
***And hugs!!!***
and I showed Carol my hidden Mickey per her request. She had posted and I do quote this.” I'll be wearing my Passporter pin, and a Disney T-shirt (and my Sorcerer Mickey watch and undies )” Upon reading this the night before my sis had asked if she would show us the undies, well we got our answer.
*** ***
I looked up after pulling down my pant leg and Carol was showing us her Sorcerer Mickey undies. I looked at Sue and said “Well now you have your answer.”
***The red ones with the Sorcerer Hat on the very front, with "Walt Disney World" written underneath.***
Pat and her DD went to see the IMAX movie Antarctica. Carol showed us her scrapbook while we waited. She did a wonderful job!
***Gee, Thanks!!! It was the one from our 2003 trip - the only one I've finished so far.***
Robert showed us their pin collection, what a wonderful one they have. We also looked in the gift shop. After the movie we went in to the Museum and looked around.
***This is a really neat museum. It's newer than the Michigan State Museum here in Lansing, and their exhibits go in a different direction...It's difficult to explain, sort of like comparing apples and oranges...I think the Indiana Museum covers more different areas (geology, history, sciences), whereas the Michigan Museum concentrates mainly on the history of the state, beginning with the early Native Americans, continuing to the present day, in chronological order.***
Around 2pm we got hungry and went to the Restaurant for lunch. Sis and I had Cheeseburgers and fries, Pats and her DD had sandwiches and so did Carol and Robert.
***The food was quite good - at least mine was - and reasonably priced for that sort of venue...lots cheaper than WDW!!! **
After lunch Pat and her DD had to go they had not been home since Monday and she was ready to be home and relax.
***But Bob and I will get to see her again in December at MouseFest (Yay!)***
The four of us went to look at the rest of the exhibits. On thing that was fun is there is a scale that weighs you on weight by animals. I was a heavy as a Giant Beaver. We all got on and it was the weight of some kind of Ox.
***There was also a really cool exhibit (I think it's called "The Indiana of Tomorrow" or something similar) in which while you're watching a movie, you're asked to vote on various choices the family in the movie is making...sort of "what should they do about this" questions. Then you're shown what would happen if they made the choices that the majority of the audience voted for...and you can also see what would happen of the votes had gone the other way...It was really quite interesting.***
When we were done we said our good byes and we all headed our separate ways. It was fun and I was so happy to meet them finally face to face. Thanks Pat and Carol for coming.
***And a Great Big Thank You for asking and planning this...We'll have to do it again sometime!...Maybe we could have a Passporter Mini-Meet here in Lansing...and we have a Disney Store to go to if it rains!!! ***
***Marcie got a photo of our little group, maybe she can post it...we didn't take many pictures, because there were signs all over the place forbidding flash photography in the galleries... ***

I'm so jealous that you guys got to meet in person!
It sounds like you had a blast, even with security guards following you around.

I haven't the foggiest notion. We could recognize all the other characters, just not that one...I was hoping someone would be able to help us out here....
