Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

What is your opinion??

My Gram has been in the nursing home for almost a year now. She's very sick and probably won't last much longer. Now, we are very close and always have been. My family decided not to tell her we are moving to Florida until around April 1st. We didn't want her to be too upset about it and have been trying to think of a way to tell her.

We got home from Orlando yesterday from a job/apartment hunt. We just found out my Aunt told my Gram that we are leaving. We had asked all the relatives not to say anything until we were ready to tell her.

What do you think? Do you think my Aunt was out of line or should I just get over it? I think she really violated our trust and had no right to tell my Gram yet.

PS: My Gram never asked anything about it..my Aunt just blurted it out. My Gram, I guess, handled it well...which is positive.

Re: What is your opinion??

Yes I think she was wrong as you specifically told her not to tell. One wonders about her motivation.

Re: What is your opinion??

She was wrong, but you just need to let it go. Anytime you tell anyone anything you have put yourself at risk of it being repeated! Especially when you tell them NOT to tell anyone else!

Just make sure that you answer all her questions when she starts asking them. Sometimes it takes a while for the elderly to absorb info and come up with questions.

Re: What is your opinion??

Oh boy, IMHO, Aunt was totally out of line. That was something she should have heard coming from you, Mom, Dad and Bryan. Wow- how is everyone handling it? How is Gram? I sure do feel bad for you Kelly- not the greatest situation to come home to.

Keep us updated and a {HUG} for you!

Re: What is your opinion??

Gee, sorry to hear your Aunt was such a blabbermouth. I think it would have been nicer if you and your family could have told your grandmother together, rather than having her hear it from a third party. But what's done is done, so now it's deal-with-it time. Give your Gram a big hug and let her know you love her. Then let her know how much you are looking forward to your move and your new job. She probably knows there's nothing you can do to help her, and if you promise to send her pictures of her beautiful great-grandson I'm sure she'll be happy for you! And I hope you can forgive Auntie Big Mouth.

I think she was out of order, she should've left it down to you guys to tell her when you felt the time was right.

Re: What is your opinion??

I too think your aunt was wrong. I'm sorry she put you in the middle of a possible bad situation. Some people just like to cause trouble! ( I have some of those in my family!) Too bad she could not understand you were just trying to get all your ducks in a row before telling your Gram. I know with my Nana, if I don't have all the exact information at hand, she just does not understand. I'm glad your Gram is taking it well. Good luck with your new job, the move, and your Gram.

PS: Looks like one Aunt won't be visiting Mickey with your help!

Re: What is your opinion??

I agree that your Aunt should have NOT said anything. I would feel like she violated our trust too had it happened to us.

BUT, it's over and done.....try and let it go. If anything at all, now you know NOT to say anything to her beforehand any more.

And good luck with all that is coming up for you!!

Kelly, I agree that your Aunt shouldn't have told your Gram when you specifically told your family not to say anything. Thank goodness your Gram is taking it really well. I wonder why your Aunt told her? I wonder if she is jealous of you moving to Florida?

Re: What is your opinion??

Ugh, I'm sorry to hear about this, Kelly. Let your gramma know how much you love her and that you will stay in contact. It sounds like she probably understands that this is what's best for you and Alex right now. And grandmas always want what's best for their grandkids. Best of luck!

Re: What is your opinion??

The more I think about it, the more it angers me. My Aunt had no right to tell her. My Mom and I wanted to sit down with my Gram when we had all the answers and knew exactly where and when we were moving. My stupid blabbermouth Aunt can no longer be trusted, and that's pretty sad. Thankfully, my Gram only wants the best for us and will support us no matter what. But I also didn't want to upset her since she's so delicate as it is. I told my Gram I would be over this week to explain things even further. I hate situations like this!

Oh, and I never answered the question: My Aunt isn't really a "trouble maker" but rather the "martyr"..or so she thinks. Everything is always about her and about how much she does for everyone else (which of course, isn't true..she just does things for attention). I didn't think she'd tell my Gram, considering we asked her not to...but we were wrong. I just feel really bitter now.

Re: What is your opinion??

There's one in every family, isn't there! Your Aunt was definitely out of line - no question about that. I would be sure to tell your Gram that you and your family were waiting to say anything until you were sure it was going to happen. Explain to her that you had every intention of telling her the news yourselves and that you are sorry it didn't happen that way. That way she doesn't think you were trying to hide something from her.

I am so sorry you have to deal with this frustrating situation. Here's some pixie dust to help work things out...

Re: What is your opinion??

Omg, that sucks. When I was getting a divorce I made everyone SWEAR not to tell my grandmother, and..... my blabbermouth sister did anyway. Grrrrrr. Some people just have to be the first with the news, it makes them feel special for one brief moment.

I'm sorry that happened. It's a good thing your gram is taking it well. Just apologize to her for having to hear it first from someone else. Are you going to confront your auntie dearest about it? I felt I should probably let it go, but I was so angry I couldn't and said something to my sister. She actually apologized, which was a miracle.

Wow, that was totally out of line of your aunt. Sounds like she's looking for some sort of attention, be it good or bad!
