Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Printing from new LIVE! WDW Guide?

I vaguely recall this being mentioned somewhere but no idea where--

Does printing pages result in 1-2 page printouts with only a few lines on the second one sometimes? Or, is there a way to print so that the text spacing might result in pages hole-punched to fit the Deluxe binder?

I'm thinking it'd be great to fill worksheets online and then put the print copy in the binder if it can fit even fairly well.

Anybody tried this with the DLR or DCL one?

I'm having a tough time finding the interactive PDFs that I know are out there somewhere! They look just like the deluxe pages...I'll come back and post that when I find them.

But yes, some of the pages will go over one page, as we can put so much more in the digital edition.

Remember, when you print any PDFs, you can usually tell it to print two pages on one sheet, so each half will be about 5.5x8.5--this should be roughly the size of the deluxe--I never thought to buy one, so I don't know what size they are exactly.

Will add more when I find that info for you.

I think this is the thread you're referring to: http://www.passporterboards.com/foru...=297549&page=3

Posts #35 (basic) & #54 (advanced) give you some info on how to print out the LIVE! Guide. I included screenshots that show you what the cover & first page look like, in post #35. Hope this helps for the time being.

I set up the PDFs so they are the proper size to fit in a Deluxe binder (8.5" x 5.5") with room for punching. This is true of our PDF worksheets as well, but we are moving away from them because some people have problems using them since Adobe made changes to their Reader software. The new online worksheets can be printed to any size you want in your print settings, so you can have them fit in a binder as well, but they are not confined to that size the way the book PDFs are.

I found one of the older interactive PDFs, yay! Jennifer is working to make the interactive PDFs accessible to people who sign up as passholders for LIVE! Guides. Below is what the interactive packing list PDF looks like--you can add the numbers of items needed right on your computer and then print it out like the example.

The packing list tool in the LIVE! Guide allows you to customize your packing list, and has many more choices. Since you would have a choice on which to use once you sign up as a passholder, you can decide which you like best. And, as Jennifer said, when you make your LIVE! Guide into a PDF, it should print out in a format compatible with your binder.

Size-wize each printed page can be made to fit, that isn't the issue itself. And others have provided info on where to go for instructions on doing that. Adobe and printers these days are remarkably flexible.

The challenge you will encounter is this when printing from the PDF:

Not all of the PP pages are actually limited to a single page. So, what may be page 32 in the PP Live Guide when it is translated into PDF may be one full page and then some amount of text onto a second page.

Net result ?

The Passporters Disney Cruise Line guide (13th edition, 2017) is 753 PDF pages long, however, the last numbered page of the "book" itself is actually "Page 573". Basically, you are getting about 180 extra pages where material has gone onto a second page in the PDF version. Note that the 753 is it created with NO NOTES, it is just the book material.

Yes, SW, you're right! You'll definitely want to be picky about which pages you print. That's an important thing to remember, so thanks for bringing it up.

You can also think about it as perfectly customizing your book. No need to print out information about any hotel other than the one you're staying at. Packing for your trip? Leave out the planning & transportation info, but print out all your worksheets.

And since Jennifer is considering offering the binder and PassPockets with an annual pass holder membership, you'll have a place to put it all.

I believe the annual membership is around $45, which will give you access to all the most up-to-date information in all the books, for not much more than the cost of one deluxe edition.

I'd rather have the actual book, too (so would Jennifer), but that's not to be at this point, so I'm adapting.

Yes, we are putting more information into the LIVE! Guide than could fit in a print book, because we were not as confined as we were with print. We felt this was a GOOD thing for our readers. If we do a print book again, we will need to delete information from the LIVE! Guide for it to fit in print. But as a person printing pages from the LIVE! Guide, we know you can pick and choose what pages to print. For example, no one needs to print all the ports, and they take up the lion's share of the book. A book of pages a cruiser actually WANTS is substantially smaller than a regular print book, even with the extra pages.

But if this becomes a serious issues for our readers, we certainly can go in and remove information so everything fits on one page again. If this is your preference, please let me know. I might also be able to have a second PDF option that shrinks the font size more so this happens less often (though you may lose readability, depending upon how good your eyes are).

Honestly, while I prefer completing worksheets offline, I can't envision printing more from the LIVE! guide than those. Consequently, I probably won't even need a printout sized to fit my faithful Deluxe binder, now that my mind is more adjusted to the new format's potential.

Actually, I realized it'll be a relief NOT lugging that bulky binder to WDW even though we drive rather than flying. I've found we've used it at WDW increasingly less the last couple years. I could readily cope with pulling up everything via iPhone or iPad now that the latter has begun demanding to go-with.

Once we get worksheets completed, we transfer the info to iPhones in short form anyway.

I'm one hoping you can add a font size adjuster if there isn't one already. My "vintage" eyes are having enough trouble reading the text on iPad or desktop. "Pinch and spread" to read on my iPhone when at WDW would be a major pain u-know-where. That would be more useful to me by far than any tinkering with how pages print.

Dot:

iPhone has an accessibility feature that you can turn on that will automatically enlarge parts of the screen. you don't have to do pinch and zoom.

I learned about this when i had to turn it on for my aunt who is now having vision issues. I was pretty impressed with it.

settings / general / accessibility / zoom

turn zoom on
it explains how to use it
you can set how big it zooms to at the bottom of that zoom setting screen

hope that helps !

Do you know if Android has a version of this? I'm finding the print much too small for me to enjoy reading on anything but my computer.

On my Samsung Galaxy 6, I see the options I've listed below. I haven't tried any of these, just looked for them. Be sure to let us know if any of these work for you!

Settings>Accessibility>Font size will allow you to increase font sizes.

There's also this: Settings>Accessibility>Magnifier window (description says "Magnify content shown on the screen."

Just below that (on my phone, anyway) is Magnification gestures on/off . Click on that and it tells you how to magnify the window.

An option to change your font size from within the LIVE! Guide is on my list of things to do!

I added the ability to make your text 150% larger. Can you please try this and let me know if it works for you? Here's how to do it:

1. Go to your LIVE! Guide
2. Click on My Settings in the LIVE! Guide Tools sidebar
3. Change the font size to 150% and click Save Settings
4. Return to the LIVE! Guide and check your font size

Anyone else is welcome to use this feature, too, and I'd love to get feedback.

Thanks!
