Monorail resort villa availability after 11 mos. out? - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears

Moving on with the current of the years.

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

Monorail resort villa availability after 11 mos. out?
We're tossing around what-ifs for buying into DVC right now.
We prefer a monorail resort and figure those likely book up speedily right at 11 months out. Correct?
I know you can ask to be put on the wait list, so I'm not seeking info on how-tos just how likely it is to get a monorail resort for October or November before Thanksgiving if you try to book after 11 months out.

I had a quick play around on the DVC Member website for various weekends in August, which is eight months out, and I had no problem finding availability at the monorail resorts.
I also had a look at a couple of weekends in July, which is seven months out and all DVC Members, regardless of where they own points, can now book at the monorail resorts, and there's still availability then as well.
I can't help out with October or November availability at this stage, as at this stage, it's so far out and only people who own at those resorts can book there, so I don't think it would give a fair impression. I don't know if others have tried for the monorail resorts around that time of the year before and can advise?

That's what I'd assume, especially as in October and November, DVC owners tend to want to stay in the Beach Club Villas and BoardWalk Villas for close proximity to the Food and Wine Festival.

Oh not for DVC resorts. Fall can be a peak time for DVC bookings
I've been able to get BLT twice at 7 months - one lake view during spring break and one theme park view in late September/early October.
We actually lucked out with our lake view - it was the 2nd to last room on the MK end of the building, so we had a pretty good view of Wishes (but it was a loooooooong walk to get there)
Fall is a busy time for DVC, but during October the Epcot resorts are in the highest demand. As a general rule, the studios will be harder to book than a 1 BR.

I thought the DVC lounge was open to any DVC member. I'm not sure about resale, but we've been in the lounge a few times without having stayed at BLT.
We booked the Poly at about 5 months out for our kids Spring Break and had no problems. I even added a day later on. We're staying Sun-Sat in a theme park view room.

The policy has changed several times. First, the lounge was only for DVC members staying at BLT. Then it was amended to DVC members staying on property using points (with some black out dates). DVC announced last year that any member who purchased via resale after March 2016 would not have access to any member perks. This was to try and encourage direct purchases over resale. My understanding is that if it is something that you need your member card to access (discounts, lounges, special events, etc.), it is a member perk that will be restricted.
I always book my home resort for the dates I want and then go to the website right at my 7 month window to try to make any changes. The only time I wasn't able to get what I wanted was trying to get an Epcot resort for F&W. Granted we stayed at our home resort for our Christmas trip so I don't know if we would have been let down then. I think you have a fair shake of getting in your resort of choice as long as it isn't at a super super busy week.
Where we have had to be flexible on our travel weeks is going to the Grand Californian. It is so worth it though!
We have a backup plan and are simply going to see what we can get.
Unlike people we've all heard about, our entire vacation won't be ruined if we don't get exactly what we want.
Really, any resort will be new and exciting since we've never stayed in DVC before. Just gonna play the cards as they fall.
That's how I see it too. I like trying different resorts, and as a DVC member, I know I'll be back and I can just try whichever resort/view/location the next time.
