As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. I have a bag of almond flour in my pantry I purchased to make some dessert bars (healthy dessert).
Has anyone else tried using this high protein alternative to wheat flour and do you have any recipes.
I think I am trying a apple crisp recipe tonight.
From what I read this can be used to make gluten free desserts. I am not gluten free but it has a much better glycemic index than even whole wheat flour.

I've used almond flour rarely. It doesn't perform well alone in baked goods other than things like a granola bar or crumble topping for a fruit crisp. Should be tasty as an apple or berry crisp topping.
My experience with recipes calling for almond flour was that it was mixed with other flours of varying densities to make quick breads, muffins or cookies usually. Doing that, of course, will often result in a higher carb count per serving than you may want, but it's necessary to get a good texture and bulk.
For your low-carb needs, a Paleo diet cookbook would likely be your best resource. Also, googling for Paleo recipes for baked goods would possibly yield more usable recipes since they'd rely upon seed or nut-derived rather than grain flours.

I use almond flour all of the time, but only for no-bake recipes. If you want a better gluten-free flour alternative for baking, then I would recommend oat flour. You can even make it yourself by grounding up rolled oats or old fashioned oats in a food processor. If you'd like a few no-bake recipes using almond flour, I'd be happy to post them.

Honeybee723 - I would love some easy no bake recipes using either the almond flour or some simple gluten-free ones. We also have some almond flour from a recipe and I'm not sure what to do with the remainder. Thanks for your gracious offer.

I'm not gluten free either, but I tend to go for a lot of recipes that are because I find them easier on my belly. I've been incorporating a lot more clean eating in my diet and I can definitely see and feel a difference in my body. I've even attempted a few paleo recipes here and there, although I don't think I could ever go full paleo.

I am very interested in your apple crisp recipe & how it turns out. I'm have a ton not apples that I need to use up & if we would use the almond flour it would be higher in protein for my son. Could you please post your results & the recipe if you don't mind. TIA
Substituting almond for wheat flour in any standard apple crisp recipe works great. You don't need a particular recipe for almond flour to use it that way. The topping for apple crisp works well for sliced peaches, fresh or thawed frozen ones. I prefer some nutmeg for a peach crisp rather than cinnamon which goes better with apples, IMO.
Any general purpose cookbook usually has an apple crisp recipe. The one I like is from Better Homes & Gardens big book and is an apple brown betty, a bit different since apple crisp often uses oatmeal. Mine calls for butter or stick margarine and flour as the primary ingredients and makes more of a crumb topping as for a pie. I also have used brown rice flour, lower in carbs, with good results.
The gluten free baked goods cookbook I recommend is The Allergen-Free Baker's Handbook by Cybele Pascal. You may need to order the superfine brown rice flour her flour blends call for as I did. I got it easily from Amazon.
Her recipes are the closest I've found to wheat flour ones. That book has a wide range from cakes to cookies to pies, all delicious. They're pretty easy to assemble once you've made her basic flour blend and FAR less expensive than commercial mixes or baked g-f goodies.

Seriously, do look at some Paleo recipe books. They may work very well for your needs since the Paleo diet eschews grains and most sugars other than those naturally occurring in fruit or derived from dates and coconut if any additional sweetener is added.
But then, you may prefer as I should do more often--avoiding dessert unless just fresh fruit. Certainly is healthier and simpler than trying to replicate bad-for-you desserts few of us likely need anyway.

My dessert intake is minimal but my love of fruit makes my diet probably triple the daily requirements for fruit and veggies. I love veggies, too and if not for seafood, I could easily give up animal products.
I also occasionally enjoy a good dessert aaand I am very cheap so I am not going to waste this expensive bag of almond flour. I am thinking it may be nice to have some fruit based muffins in the freezer for those days I need breakfast on the go. And if they have almond flour, I avoid the 35 gms of carb in a bought muffin.

I have made many desserts with almond flour. I would second Dots suggestion and look up some paleo recipes. I make a almond flour chocolate chip cookie (92% chocolate, so low on the sugar) and raspberry/ blueberry almond flour muffins. We ate exclusively paleo for a few years, we have added back whole grains, but still enjoy many of our paleo desserts.
