As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). Harry Potter rides for someone who doesn't like thrill rides?
Hi guys, I did have a search for this but couldn't find anything..
I'm going on a split Disney / Universal vacation later this year with the main purpose of the Universal portion being to visit the Wizarding World as I am a huuuuuuuge Harry Potter fan. I'm not really a thrill ride person - I have done the occasional gentle roller coaster in the past but I'm much more a fan of theming and theme based rides like Pirates of the Caribbean or Haunted Mansion. So I'm looking for some advice on which, if any, of the rides in the wizarding world would be suitable for me and the ones that are roller coasters how 'scary' they are (for example do they go upside down, corkscrew etc)
I'm so excited about going and I know that even if I don't go on any rides it will be amazing but I'd prefer not to be disappointed by realising I don't want to ride them when I'm there, I'd rather prepare myself in advance

I think you should do a search on YouTube for ride video of Forbidden Journey and Gringotts. Neither of them is roller coaster, but they do swing you around and have dips in a couple places. In any case, I'd think you should at least try them. After all, they are themed awsomely.
Deuling Dragons coaster would be out, I believe. The two matching coasters do turn upside down. You might want to walk the walkway leading to the entrance though, so you can see Hagrid's Hut and the Weasley's car that are both in the outside cue. Just turn around once you've gotten to the building (you'll miss the Triwizard cup and the tent that the Champions wait in by skipping the building).
Hippogriff is a bit like Goofy's Barnstormer, more of a kiddie-coaster. As an adult on it, I did think it was a bit rougher than I would have anticipated....but I think it was more about our size and how we fit than the ride itself.
Hogwarts Express (need a 2 park ticket to ride) is a train ride and would definitely be suitable.
While you are in the parks, I'd like to suggest these often overlooked gems:
-Disaster!- There is audience participation and I think the whole thing is well-done, and funny.
-Horror Make-Up Show- This may be my favorite non-ride attraction in the parks. So funny ( esp. if the audience member they call upon is good)!

I agree with Hidden Mickey.... at least try FJ & Gringotts because they are so well done. You'll hate yourself for missing them. And absolutely pass on Dueling Dragons since you aren't a coaster fan. Because they are fast, and do go upside down. Hogwarts Express was cute and added to the whole experience of the WWHP.
Don't forget to try some Butterbeer while you walk about the area. The theming is so well done throughout the WWHP. Our DS was selected at Ollivanders, so that made that little performance enjoyable for us, and of course we bought his wand. Be prepared to enjoy the variety of shops and goodies there too. Universal did an outstanding job!
Hi all, just wanted to follow up on this and let you know how I got on. In the end the only one of the three I went on (not including the Hogwarts express which I went on about a million times haha) was Gringotts which I went on twice in a row! I passed on Hipogriff just because I had kind of run out of time and was quite tired and it didn't seem particularly 'special' if that makes sense. I went on both mine train and big thunder mountain at Disney (and enjoyed them) but from what I could tell it looked quite similar and so I wasn't to bothered. Forbidden Journey I really hummed and hawed about but over the last week I've started to get a much better idea about what I don't like in rides and it's not actually so much about fear factor as nausea and motion sickness (i went on the simpsons ride and it was just a massive bowl of nope for me haha) and from what I've read FJ has a reputation for being quite bad that way. I was really torn until I heard that you can tour the castle without doing the ride so I I did that instead which was lovely maybe I should have tried it but I'm on my own and didn't want to risk getting sick..

I should say though that the lands themselves are spectacular and I enjoyed just wandering around so much that I really didn't mind about the rides so much.
I think you made the right decision with FJ. It is a very intense ride. Dueling Dragons is completely unlike and of the coasters at WDW. EE is probably the most intense coaster at WDW, and as far as real coasters go, it rates maybe a 3n
Glad to hear I wasn't being over cautious! I definitely got the impression that a lot of the staff at universal had a different concept of 'intense' from me!
Maybe next time try Forbidden Journey. I get sick in the tea cups but was fine on FB. I did take Bonimine, because I do go on the coasters, so that may have helped!! But it is an amazing attraction.

We did that split visit in '12 - the lines in Wizarding World were unbelievable. Hopefully the park has improved their customer service as FJ has some serious weight/health restrictions. I do not do roller coasters but did ride FJ. Because so much of it is "virtual reality" I was able to refocus my attention to prevent vertigo. Minions was a great favorite for all of us.
The waits were fine for me (I walked on to gringotts twice in a row) but I did go first thing in the morning and last thing on the evening and was on my own, I can imagine that mid day it was probably crazy.
I guess lines for Gringotts has died down some since Aug 2014. We went first thing in the morning for the extra hour opening and still waited 45 min, there was no riding a second time. By the time we got off, waits were up to 2hrs. Crazy!
