Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Expedition Everest-ok for wimps?

Ok. So the past two trips to DW I have eyed this thing. I've read about it. I've watched youtube videos. And watching the videos, I'm like "yeah, I could do it". My son...doesn't even entertain the idea. We get to the park. I watch and see the big drop and promptly chicken out.
I am a ride wimp. I admit it. Splash mountain scares the heck out of me. Not the whole ride. The drop. Love the other mountains.
So tell me about EE. Is the drop all that bad? How does it compare to say Splash Mountains drop. How does it compare to the other mountains. And what about the backwards part. It looks dark. Are there big drops in there? I need details people . I'm hoping to try it out and maybe convince the kid to as well.

The drop isn't all that bad. For me it's the backward part in the dark. Makes me feel ill. I'd love the ride if it didn't have that.

I'm a firm believer that you should try everything once and then decide.

I generally do not like roller coasters. I dislike big drops. Anything over about 60ish feet i just can't handle generally. The first time we went to the world my husband really really wanted to go (but for some reason abhors going on rides alone) so he snagged some fastpass's and i gave it a try. The backwards part was my favorite, kinda feels like you go upside down (but you don't). The drop was just outside my comfort zone. Not terrible, but not something i'd choose to do.
I think my comfort zone expanded since that first trip because when i went on it again on our last trip it was a blast and the drop didn't bother me at all.
So i say give it a go. You don't have to ride again if you don't like it.

I'm not a fan of drops, but I honestly don't notice it all that much on EE. It's by far my favorite ride at Animal Kingdom. I love the backward part! I say give it a go t least once.

I'm a ride wimp, although I will do Splash. I won't do Space Mountain, Tower of Terror or Rock'n'Roller Coaster to give you an idea. I don't remember the drops. The bit I remember is going backwards and I got told by a lot of people to put my head right back into the headrest and keep staring straight ahead to avoid getting motion sick and that worked for me.

I've done it twice. I have to say that's my limit and I have no real desire to do it again, but I'm glad I did it. I say go for it and see what you think.

Well, overall it's a pretty wild ride. I'm like you, I"m a coaster wimp and try to inform myself as much as possible before riding a new one!! It doesn't loop, and therein lies the reason I tried it at all. So, here is a fellow wimp's personal take on EE:

There IS one large hill, outside, but it's VERY smooth and doesn't feel the same (to me) as the Splash "drop". You're going so fast it's over before you realize you've begun. Now, the backwards part is pretty intense -- you are going in reverse in a sort of spiral. And, although there are no big hills inside, it's dark so the ups and downs seem more "up and down"!! (think Space Mt, if you've done that).

I would try it once; if you have to close your eyes the whole way then do that, but it's definitely worth the trip! Oh, and another thing I do really like about EE is that you have your own lap bar (not shared like on Big Thunder) so you can push that thing down as snug as you want to be! I do much better when I feel secure.

.

EE is my favourite ride - the drop is really smooth and is over before you know it. I absolutely won't go on Splash, so if you would then you have one up on me on the bravery front!

Well, I've been on EE once and I wasn't crazy about it.....the backwards part is the part that really bothered me. I didn't find it "too scary" per se but I didn't like how I felt during the ride. Ditto for Space Mountain, and I've never tried RnRC. I do LOVE Splash, and don't get the same "icky" feeling that I get on EE.

Well last year was the first time I gave EE and shot (shame to say) but I don't really like roller coaster rides. Well let me clarify that I don't like the BIG drops that most roller coasters have. So last year I was told it didn't have it and for me to try it. So I did and guess what I loved it. Just like I love TM in MK. So if you don't mind banks and going backwards I say go for it.

I'd give a try. I always think that our imagination is the worst part of it. Try it and take your own conclusions about it
The drop is not that bad. And going backwards as it is something expected will not scare you that much.

WOW! All of you are so MUCH BRAVER than me!

I never liked roller coasters at all. However I do love Big Thunder Railroad Mountain, go figure! I never went on Splash Mountain because of the drop, or Space Mountain too dark, or RNR because that does go upside down, and TOT I did do that once and that SCARED ME TO DEATH!

EE is something I don't mind watching! I think as I got older my fear grew!

Call me a Big Baby or a Chicken...... I admit it!

DeAnna: You did Slash Mountain, you could do EE, right? Then you could let me know how easy it was right? LOL!

Lovewdw2...I also love Big Thunder Mountain for the same reason you do...no BIG drops. And EE doesn't have any BIG drops..it is similar to Big Thunder Mountain with speed on the turns and the only thing different is it goes backwards..but I really liked EE.

I love it and could do it over and over. However, it is very intense and it doesn't sound to me like you would want to do it. If you're not a thrill junkie, it's not for you.
