Can I turn in my PhotoPass+ voucher at Chef Mickey's? - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Can I turn in my PhotoPass+ voucher at Chef Mickey's?
I purchased PhotoPass+ and have received my voucher. Our first day there we will not be going to a park but we have a reservation at Chef Mickey's. I think I read before that you could exchange your voucher for the lanyard at the resturant, but I am wondering if this is still true since PhotoPass+ has been phased out.

Welcome to Passporter Stacey!
As Darlene said above, the PhotoPass+ product has been discontinued in favor of a better PhotoPass product called Memory Maker. There are some differences between the two products, but in my opinion Memory Maker actually gives you much more value than PhotoPass+ did, and it's easier to use.
It may help you to understand the new product if you read through the PhotoPass primer sticky thread at the top of the Disney Tech forum. It has a paragraph or two specifically about Memory Maker, as well as a basic explanation of the whole PhotoPass system, which might be useful for you if you haven't been to WDW in a few years.
Welcome aboard. I'm sure you'll be very happy on the Passporter Boards. I stumbled across the place over eleven years ago and have been here ever since.
that's where I am so confused. I booked our package over a year ago and purchased the PP+ CD with our pkg. When I rec'd my vacation pkg from my travel agent, there was a voucher for the PP+. Now I'm seeing the MMaker instead of the PP, but do not want to have to buy another one if this one is still ok to use. Help!

Sorry Stacey, I misunderstood when I initially read your post. I thought you wanted to buy PhotoPass+, I missed that you had already bought it!
Although PhotoPass+ has been discontinued, any PP+ that were purchased before it was discontinued will still be honored. So you won't have to buy anything else.
PP+ operated differently from Memory Maker, though, and you had to redeem your code at one of the camera centers in the parks to receive a special PhotoPass+ card. It was this card that you had to scan at the specialty venues like rides and meals in order to get the special pics. This was a pain, since you only got one card, and if your party split up, you couldn't split the card.
The fact that PP+ has been discontinued for over 7 months might also cause you some trouble. I could see the camera stores not having any PP+ cards in stock any more and just being completely confused about how to get one for you.
I recommend that you call Disney PhotoPass support and see if it's possible to convert or exchange your PhotoPass+ for a Memory Maker. MM is usable by anyone in your traveling party and has a few other benefits that PP+ did not have.

Photopass+ is no more. It's now the Memory Maker package and you should have everything you need when you get there. Keep in mind though, starting I believe it's this Sunday, Disney is no longer offering prints at the restaurants (CRT and Akershus will still give them only until January though). You can still have the photo taken and it will be put into your Photopass account, you just won't have people coming to the table with a print anymore.
We were at WDW just last month and used our PhotoPass+ that we had purchased months before (we opted to keep it rather than switch over to Memory Maker).
The first place we had planned to use it was at Chef Mickey's at breakfast. We did not have a chance to get to a PhotoPass center yet so did not have the card yet and asked if we could get one at Chef Mickey's. The photographer informed us that not only could they not get us one, but they could no longer scan the PhotoPass+ cards there either (they have gone completely Memory Maker there) They let us speak to a PhotoPass manager to find out how to go about getting our card and getting the photos on the card once we got it. She brought us a card and lanyard but said she had to really hunt to find one (and indicated that they were almost out). She also brought us a slip of paper with a number on it and she told us that, in order to get our photos from Chef Mickey's on to the card, we needed to take the card to any PhotoPass center in the parks (or some resorts, as we took care of it at the Grand Floridian) and give them the slip of paper. The photos were tied to the number and would then be added to the PhotoPass+ card.
You can exchange the PhotoPass+ for Memory Maker if you are concerned about availability of cards and such. To be honest, if we were going this month rather than last, I probably would have switched. I was really worried about it last month and found that we got lucky at Chef Mickey's being able to get the card and then found a lot of photographers who seemed surprised that anyone was using the "old product". A lot of them said they hadn't seen PhotoPass+ in a long time and lots of others said they missed the "old technology".
With the print packages being discontinued at the character meals next week, it is really no different than the Memory Maker now. Plus, Memory Maker is tied to your MagicBand so you don't have to carry anything extra, which is nice.
The only downside about exchanging the PhotoPass+ product is that they ask you to return the CD of stock photos that were sent after you ordered PhotoPass+. I have heard that they sometimes let you keep it but, their official line is that they ask you to return it. Like Will said, I would contact PhotoPass customer service and ask what their procedure is for exchange at this point and consider switching to Memory Maker instead.

If it makes it any easier, the lanyard and card are nothing special (a plain red, break away lanyard and a red Photopass card) so it's note like you'll really be missing out on anything by switching to MM instead. It's the same cost - $149 so you won't have to pay anymore either. At one point in time, Disney use to sell the stock photo disc for something like $15 or $20 so if it's something you wanted to keep, it wasn't much money.
