As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

We got two kittens from a rescue agency and they have been great except one thing.........the litter boxes. They scatter the litter all over!!!!!!! Like a five foot radius around the boxes. The type of litter I got is tidy cat 24/7 odor control. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to control the litter scatter or a better type of litter? I really hate the smell of litter but realize its better than the alternative odor.
Get a litter box with a lid! I also have a litter mat that has a mesh weave that traps the litter and helps keep it in the area. I really don't like Tidy Cats. I have used Arm & Hammer in the past but now I use Fresh Step. It works great with odor and smells clean (they also have unscented), but it's very dusty.

to all of that above! I have 2 cats (a 9 year old and a 5 mo. old kitten) and the "old man" is so messy with the litter. We have always had a litter box with a lid and the mesh type mats right outside of the door of the litter box has always helped to keep some of the mess down. I use the Fresh Step non-clumping clay litter because when Mickey first came to us as a kitten, not only did we not like the coarse sand-like litter under our feet but he didn't seem to like it either (wasn't taking to the litter box). We changed to the clay litter and he took right to it.
You can actually get different sized litter boxes. Are you using a small sized one? You may want to go to a pet store and see if there are bigger ones and see if that makes a difference. As others have said, our boxes have a cover over them which does seem to help. We use Scoop Away Complete that we buy from BJs in 42lb bags.

All cats like different kinds of litter, some fine, some coarse...you have to see what will work both for you and your kittens. I second the size too.
I use BJ's brand litter, when I can (my membership ran out and I haven't been able to renew it. ) I think it smells good, and even when I scoop the box I can smell the litter almost renewing it's freshness.
I can't give any advice about litter scattering. I myself have a 8 year old cat and he does it too. I think there are ways to cut down on it, but it's one of those things you live with when you have cats. I have had them my whole life and not long ago I had 2 cats, and not long before that 3. It happens every time with every cat.
I have a 5 month old alien, I mean kitten as well. We have covered litter boxes for our older cat, Caesar, but Lilo isn't too fond of the cover. So, we have a large uncovered litter box for her. You can tell when Caesar uses that litter box because there is litter all over the floor!
Lilo doesn't scatter the cat litter, but her cat food is all over the floor! She takes a kibble, bites into it and shakes her head. Little pieces go flying every where. She is such a little piggy when she eats.
I use Arm & Hammer Essentials. It is made out of corn husk fiber and it clumps. It does not seem to make as big of a mess or stick to my cat's feet as much. I also use a couple of the rubbermade low containers for my litter boxes, like the ones that would go under your bed. They are much bigger then standard litter boxes and the cats seem to make less of a mess since there is more room for them to hide their mess.
I agree with the lid, mat and larger box suggestions. When we moved we bought a brand new box which is the Booda Dome Cleanstep box and that has helped some with the tracking out of litter. Since they babies and not set in their ways I would suggest this box: CleverCat Innovations Top Entry Litter Box | Overstock.com
They can't kick litter out while digging and the vertical exit means less on their paws.
I use a tall Rubbermaid storage container with a notch cut into one end for my cat to get in and out. I'm talking about the kind of containers you store xmas decorations, etc in (18"-24" tall). My cat is very large and would not use the kind with lids and this really keeps him from "throwing" litter around.
At one time I used the automatic litter box and really liked it. The first one lasted several years but the second died after about 1 year. Money was tight so I did not purchase another.
My cat is also a messy eater - gets several pieces and takes them a few feet away from the bowl and drops them. He usually eats them but leaves crumbs.

I had the same thing with the electric litter box, but I had a problem with the second one when we moved and somehow the plug got lost. I called to get a new one and they sent it, unfortunately they had changed models and the new plug wouldn't work on the old style...couldn't get the old style one.
My cat also takes out food to eat. I had another cat who did it too and she would only drink from the faucet. We ended up buying a water fountain style water dish and she drank from that stream. Worked out good.
I also had a cat who would wack the water dish before he would drink...I know why he did that though. Bc water is clear and the bowl plain he had no ability to see where the water began...unless it rippled. He also only had one eye so his depth perception was not there.

If you don't want one with a lid (or your cat won't use it), you can put little borders on them. Picture molding on a baseboard of a wall? So it'll be a few inches higher than the top of the litterbox but not a full cover.
