As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). So, my ds is in High School and they have been planning a Disney trip with marching band. It was originally going to be in October, but the school board didn't approve it and the new (and board approved) dates are in February.
Which is fine... So, we've all been planning on going down to Florida and so excited to watch Wesley march down Main Street! Well, I got an email from the band director today that Disney requires a minimum amount of marchers and we don't have enough...
So, we will be going on the trip but not able to march on Main Street...
Any chance they can work with another small band so they can both have a chance to march?
It's really sad that the music director didn't know/share that there was a minimum number of marchers.

I had the same thought; that maybe we could march with another small band.... I might mention it to the director; but I kinda doubt it works out... We live in a rural area and there is only one high school for the entire county... So, we would have to work with a HS out of county and that's just unlikely to work out as we would have to practice with them in order to prepare for the march and I just don't see that working out since the nearest HS's are so far away....
They are still have music work shops in the parks; I'm not sure how all that works... but either way it's a work shop, not something parents will watch.... I was just Sooooo excited to see him march down Main Street

Maybe you can add some other, semi-related folks to the march, if the difference isn't too great....cheerleaders come to mind. Maybe you could even start a flag corps! Or Junior ROTC members?

I'm so sorry for your son.. I've watched both of my sons march on Main Street 3 times now & it is so exciting & special, not only for the band member but also the parents.
Unfortunately, Disney has VERY strict rules regarding who can & can't march & when you can/can't march. Two times our band was the feature band on the Saturday afternoon parade, with one being a stop performance. This past trip (In April) we were' downgraded' to marching before the Electric light parade. It all depends on the application & the video the director sends to Disney
As for asking to march with another band, Disney has strict deadlines as well & sets these band dates in advance & if your band director already got a 'rejection' letter then it's probably too late to set another time/date for your band..
I am surprised that your director wasn't aware of the minimum band member requirement as Disney sends out a long list of requirements with the application & I would think that the minimum members thing would have been in that application
Your DS will love the workshops.. Our band did it 2 years ago & my sons loved every minute of it..
Thanks everyone. After much consideration, I've decided that me and the rest of the kids will not be going on his February trip. Wesley is still going with the band so that he can participate in the workshops and enjoy some time at Disney with his friends... But I can't justify spending the money for the rest of us to since (1) he won't be marching on Main Street and (2) we will have just returned from our Christmas trip...
I think they try to go every year; so hopefully enough kids sign up next year so that they can march on Main Street plus my younger son will be at the high school next year- so maybe it will work out for them to march together.... If that happens, we will plan to tag along that trip to see them march
