Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

A timing question

We will be visiting IOA in December for a day. We will be staying onsite, but after our day of fun we will be checking into Wilderness Lodge for the WDW portion of the trip. The park is open from 9-7, and we will be in at 8 for the early entry to Harry Potter. What time should I schedule our Towncar pick up? Will we be going strong til 7 or should we plan more around 5ish or another time? We plan to do counter service at WDW for dinner that night.

IoA is smaller than WDW parks, and you can tour it in a few hours. When we went there we finished touring at mid afternoon. However, if you're booking a towncar to take you to WDW I'd keep a late appointment - and if finish touring earlier enjoy city walk. We'd great meals there!!!!

Last year, I think DD and I called it a day around 4pm or so. Then we ate at Moe's on Citywalk before going to our car.

I'd think 5pm just to be safe. And if you get done early, you could eat around the park or Citywalk or get a drink at Margaritaville while you wait for your car to come.

I think I'm going to schedule for five. That sounds like a plan! Thanks for the advice. It's hard to know when you've never been there.

You'll have to come back to let us know if that worked out OK.

I am just starting to look into this myself for our Dec. 2013 trip. Never been to Universal or IoA before and we're just going for a day, mostly for HP stuff.

Thanks for posting this topic! I am overwhelmed by the whole Universal IoA thing! LOL

Hi Tink and Co,
It sounds like we are doing the very same thing. I am checking into Universal on Sat. Dec. 1st and will tour the IOA/Universal parks on Sunday, Dec.2nd - then check into the Wilderness Lodge that evening. I purchased the package for hotel stay/tickets in order to receive the early entry to Harry Potter and the Express Pass - too good of a deal to pass up.

I have been to Universal/IOA once, early in 2011, so I have an idea of what to expect. It is just my husband and I and we are typically pretty fast paced.

I'm expecting to be there at 8am for early entry and will plan to spend the first 2 hours in the Harry Potter area. I am unclear as to whether the shops are open for that early entry, but it seems as though most people don't think they open until 9 (anyone?). So we will ride the 4 open rides during that first early entry hour (hoping to ride the main Forbidden Journey a couple of times in a row at least), then right at 9am be at the shops area before the bigger crowds roll in. Last time we were there, it was shocking how quick every shop and every ride became inundated with people right at the main opening time. We couldn't even get in to see Ollivanders, or any other shop. I'm determined to not let that happen this time! So hopefully the 9-10am time frame will be for enjoying Three Broomsticks and trying a butter beer, and enjoying the shops. Then we plan to spend 10am-12pm enjoying the rest of the IOA park, followed by lunch at Mythos right at noon. After lunch we will head over to the Universal park for the rest of the day. I can't imagine we will spend more than 4 hours over there. So my guess it that we will be ready to head out by 5pm, 6pm at the very latest.

I'm not sure how many are in your group, or if there are younger children that may slow you down a bit - but I do believe that with the early entry and the express passes you will be perfectly fine leaving around the same time frame (5-6pm). The day of the week might make a bit of a difference, obviously a week day will improve your timing.

Have you considered just hopping a cab whenever you are done instead of scheduling a town car?

Thanks for the insight. We're just doing IOA, so I'm sure we will be ready to head out by 5. The Towncar should work out to cost a bit less than a taxi, so I'm willing to give up a bit of flexibility. We will definitely be in for the early entry. Our main focus will be Harry Potter stuff, and then Grinchmas. We are two adults and two teens, so we won't have too much to slow us down.

Universal first time

We did the same thing from WL in WDW to Universal for a day last year. We chose to use the shuttle bus which in hind site was a mistake. In any case we had a relatively early morning pickup and had enough time to get WWHP as well as a large amount of Universal before we had to leave. Or shuttle rolled out around 6:00 pm I believe. We would have gladly preferred another 2 hours at least plus dinner time, so I would say get there as close to gate drop, then slow down, eat, and enjoy. See a few shows, etc, then grab lunch, then more rides, etc.

Yes, Universal can all be done in a hurry in half a day, but why would you want to? Why not relax and take the whole day and into the night since you are scheduling the car anyway.
