The "Okay-So-I-Finally-Finished-Last-Year's-TR-And-We're-Leaving-In-Two-Weeks" PTR - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Welcome! We're happy you've found the PassPorter Community -- the friendliest place to plan your vacation to Walt Disney World, Disney Cruise Line, Disneyland, and the world in general! The "Okay-So-I-Finally-Finished-Last-Year's-TR-And-We're-Leaving-In-Two-Weeks" PTR
Okay so I know it took me almost a year to finish the TR for my 2011 trip and you’re all thinking “She’s crazy to start a PTR so close to her trip!” (Stop laughing…and you know who you are! ) And maybe, just maybe you’re all right…but I’m doing it anyway. So, for those of you who don’t know who my family and I are, here’s a brief intro. This time I’ll start from littlest and work my way up.
Jason:
(That’s Oak Crest camp graduation)
Complete whack-a-doodle! Dance machine (can’t help moving when he gets the rhythm in him). Lovey dovey with all the characters, especially the princesses. Favorite ride is Space Mountain, although he still has a soft spot in his heart for IASW. This will be his fourth trip to the world.
Tyler:
(Oak Crest as well…It’s really better that I don’t know what goes on at camp)
Clumsy daredevil, as most of you know from last year’s TR. Still thinks characters are cool and won’t admit it, but enjoys the princesses too. (Don’t tell him I told you). Favorite ride is RnRC and has told me he’ll ride ToT with me this year. (Here’s hoping) This will be Tyler's 6th trip.
Zach:
(Look familiar??)
Cool…at least in his own mind…older brother. Although one of the best things about Zach is that he isn’t “too cool” to miss out on the fun. He’s still willing to get Goofy with his brothers and that’s cool to me! Favorite ride is also RnRC. This will be his fifth trip.
Me: Ultimate Disney nut in our household. Complete OCD planner and self professed (although there were a number of you all professing it as well ) TR slacker. I will do anything Disney related and have a penchant now for Disney jewelry. (Thank you Lisa (lfredsbo) ) Although I’m not sure Craig thanks you. My favorite ride is Splash Mountain. And now that Jason will go on with goggles, it’s even better.
Craig: The Saint in our family. He’s calm cool and collected in ‘most’ aspects of life. He keeps me grounded and basically indulges my Disney obsession. We’ll see how far the indulgence goes with the bracelets. The man has earned his place in the afterlife for being married to this nut job. His favorite ride is also RnRC (not TSMM…gee I wonder why?? ) Also as a side note his favorite resort is the BC. Yes, I created a BC monster and don’t think we’ll be staying anywhere else any time soon.
(No need for pictures of us)
So that’s the cast of colorful characters for this trip.

Best TR title EVER!!
The good thing about taking a year to complete a TR is that you don't miss a thing about Disney because you're reliving your last trip until the next one comes.

I agree totally - in fact, I have a mostly completed TR that I have still never posted because it's been so long, but I have enjoyed working on it and reliving the trip. I also enjoy dsteiny23 TRs so I am soooo okay with the overlap...otherwise, what else would I do on a Friday afternoon at er...work?
Glad to see all five of you are in - carry on!

I think next year our trip may be a little shorter because of the Sunday and not taking the boys out that extra Friday.

I think Labor Day may be in our future at some point. I like the idea of the minimal lines you all had! And of course a Kelly and Sharon meet wouldn't be too shabby either

I agree about those bracelets being so cute! (And agree Lisa is to blame for all purchases!)
I'm placing all additional bracelet purchase blame squarely on Lisa's shoulders!

We have loved Jersey Week since we started going in 2008. The weather is usually great, the lines aren't unbearable and there's F&WF and if you time it right, both MNSSHP and MVMCP. Would love to meet you next year if it works out

I looked up the Alex and Ani bracelets and LOVE them!! Now...my only question is can you add charms, or do you have to buy a bracelet for each charm. (Not that I'm against that at all )

Gonna have to start really saving for all these "collections"..........Alex and Ani; Chamilia; photo frames, beads for life, and any other Disney jewelry I might find along the way.........
I love the Beads for Life and like that the proceeds go to a good cause. At least I can justify my purchase of them with a clear conscience

I have some Chamila charms on my Pandora bracelet. I think bracelets are my fave type of jewelry.

See, I need to do more "work" at work too and maybe catch up on this before we leave
So glad to see your PTR. Please give lots of updates soon...I'm leaving in 2 days! That also means I have something to look forward to when I get home and will help keep the Disney memories.
Yay! I'm glad you've started another one. Yes, you may take awhile to finish them, but it just keeps the rest of us waiting with bated breath for the next update.
I can't wait to read more (pun intended)...wonder why Craig's favorite ride isn't TSMM ?
Great start so far - when's the next installment (if I remember correctly, you only have a few weeks before the trip).
