As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

First, I want to make it clear that I DO have a plan of action & I will enforce it. I'm just a little unclear on a couple of things & would like your opinion/advice as my current household (DH, DS2, Brendan & I) are divided over how to handle this..
Brendanis a senior this year & is a section leader in band. We have a new band director this year & Bren LOVES band this year (old band director was a class A jerk)
Today, the section behind Bren section was goofing off & talking during practice, director kept yelling at them to be quiet & they didn't listen, Bren turned around to them & said "be quiet"
Once Brendan turned back around one boy in that section said "&^%$ you". Bren ignored it.
A little while later Brendans section got 'reprimanded' by the director, for not having their instruments in the proper position. ( no biggie) the boys laughed.. Again, Bren ignored
As they were leaving the field, the same kid who said the vulgarity said "Brendan *^% you, I'm going to put a hollow point bullet in your chest"
Bren turned to see who said it & of course, no one owned up.. Bren knew it could only be 1 of 2 boys. Later on 2 girls came up to Bren & told him who said it (one that Bren suspected)
Brendan immediately went to the directors office & told him the story.. director was livid angry & told Bren to go to the principal in the AM & sent off an e-mail to principal about it..
Brendan came home scared & sick.. He said this kid is on drugs & steroids & is literally crazy & h wouldn't be surprised if he didn't have a gun..
DH immediately said he is going to take Bren to school tomorrow & demand the boy be punished & have the police there to file a restraining order against the boy..
Now, here is where we differ... Jim & Brendan want it handled tomorrow at school. I told them we should call the cops tonight to get advice & file a report..
Anyone know which way is best?
I immediately checked FB & found out this kid is 18YO so he is legally an adult & Brendan is only 17 so isn't that more trouble for the kid??
I have 0 faith in our school system & think they will poo poo it as 'talk' but the district handbook is clear.. if a child is threatened the student must be suspended/expelled & a report made with the district magistrate AND it clearly states that the abuser can't say they didn't mean it or was just kidding..
Thoughts??? are we missing something else to do??

Until the "I'm going to shoot you", it was a situation that really isn't a big deal.
The problem is, BRENDAN does not know who it was. Yes, he was told, but that girl may be mistaken. NOW, if she heard it and saw the kid say it, and will attest to that, you have a case. Even if the boy had just said "I'm going to shoot you" that wouldn't be too big a cause for concern, but to specify a bullet type - yeah, no, he needs to go to jail. He made a specific death threat on school property.
I'd go ahead and call the police. Nothing can be wrong with that. Plus, Brendan can go into school tomorrow (with your DH) and they can let the school know they've already spoken to the authorities. Schools take it very seriously when they know the parents are proactive.

I NEVER said it was a big deal until the " I'm going to put a hollow point in your chest" I was giving the back story that precipitated the statement.
No, Brendan did not SEE the kid say it but he HEARD him say it & the girls simply verified who it was to him.. they SAW & HEARD him say it.
Umm.. & even if the kid did only say "I'm going to shoot you" it IS a BIG cause for concern. In this day & age schools have to take threats (how small they may seem to some people) seriously.. ANY threat of violence is cause for suspension/expulsion.

I spoke with a school admin friend (who also has police connections) this evening & he suggested we handle it tomorrow at school & have the police meet us there.. this way the kid will receive the school punishment & it will be on record with them... so that's the way we're going... If the school does nothing then we've got the police there to file a RO against the boy .. wait he's 18... MAN!!!!!!!!
As they were leaving the field, the same kid who said the vulgarity said "Brendan *^% you, I'm going to put a hollow point bullet in your chest"
Call the police. Don't take any chances that the boy MEANT it; don't wait for your son to get shot before you take that threat seriously. Do it right now.
Also, consider NOT sending Brendan to school in the morning, at all. Keep him at home, and JUST one of the parents goes in. Every moment your son is in school, and the kid making threats is too? Is a moment your son is in very real danger.
A little late I know, but I would not stand for that. If they say that he can't prove he said it, have them bring the WHOLE band in and tell them who ever said it needs to come forward now or the band will be put on hold and all will be suspended until the person is figured out. Ask the princable if April 20, 1999 means anything to him...that is the day IDIOTS (can't say what I really want to call them) shot up Columbine High School in Littlton Colorado. Go to the court and put a RO on the boy also.
If the school don't want to do anything take it up to the next level.
I know my cousin was expeled when he was in 1st grade for saying the same thing. I am sorry I don't play with things like that because I had family that as 2 inchs from being shot at Columbine.
I told you guys the school would drop the ball & boy did they...
Went to the school
The principal told us he had the info from the band director & had Brendan tell his side of the story.. he then told us he would talk to the boy & this matter would be handled. We left assured it would be handled.
On the way home Jim got a VM from the principal stating he had both boys in the office & the boy apologized to Bren & Bren accepted that.. He went on to say he asked Brendan if he was okay with that after the boy left & Bren said yes..
i'm livid.. Brendan was ADAMANT this AM that the boy be suspended or arrested & he settled for a handshake promise????? Plus, he texted me after he was in the office with "nothing happened"
I am so angry that we weren't told they would be brought into the office together.. I have a feeling Brendan was railroaded.. in the VM the principal stated that the boys father is a police officer at a local university.. what does that have to do with ANYTHING???????
I have a phone call message in to the principal stating that the handshake wasn't good enough for me... I want the boy suspended or arrested!
[...] in the VM the principal stated that the boys father is a police officer at a local university.. what does that have to do with ANYTHING???????
You know what, that means the boy has access to at least one firearm. (I don't know how PA handles it, but in MA, on the University of Massachusetts campuses? All the University police are also State Police troopers, and by law, MUST have a sidearm. No exceptions.)
So what it has to do with anything is, that boy has both MOTIVE and OPPORTUNITY.
Quote:
Please tell me what my next move is??
Get thee to the police, and possibly a lawyer's office, RIGHT NOW.
Point out to them that the threat is now extra-credible, because the kid probably does have access to one or more handguns. If the school principle doesn't want to expel - yes, EXPEL, not merely suspend - the boymaking that threat? Then s/he can be compelled to do so, by a court order.
