As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Anyone have any experience with them? good ? bad? arecomendations ?
Since I quit my Summer job I am looking for something to fill that gap but don't want to really get into a long term commitment due to personal stuff going on .. so I thought a temp agency might be good.
Ds1, (18YO) might also be looking for something for the Summer before he goes off to college .. so I thought a temp agency might be good for him.. thoughts??
After I got out of college and was having trouble finding a job, I went to a temp agency, filled out all the paper work along with my resume. I never heard from them. I even called them a fews times to let them know I would take anything they had available. Thankfully I found a job on my own. Now I've know others who got calls all the time for jobs.
I used a temp agency (a local one) when I moved back here years ago. I was interviewed, took a typing test and filled out paperwork. My first job was found pretty quickly, working for a department at our dental school. Then my next job was working as a receptionist for where I currently work. That was a temp to perm job and after 10 weeks I was hired here. I've been working here for 22 years now (in various positions). So my experience was very good. Where I work used that same temp agency to fill several positions over time and also when I went on maternity leave one year. We thought they usually did a great job with placements (a couple people weren't all that though...but since they were temp, we could ask to have them replaced).

My DH used one years ago when he was laid off. He was given a position at a baby supply company, in their warehouse. He was hired on at the company after a 3 month probation, and was there until the warehouse closed. It was a great job!
The company ONLY hired through temp agencies.
SiL went to one and she was never used - but I think it probably has more to do with her than the company!
I've worked for a couple of temp agencies and have had good experiences. The most difficult part is not knowing when work might come in, but all the jobs I got from the agency were good. I think its definitely worth a shot.
The company I worked for did not place any fees on the worker (definitely look for one of these). The fees were paid by the employer. In my case, I was paid minimum wage (I think?, and whatever that was back then) and the company paid something like $10 a hour for me. That covered the Temp agencies overhead, the temp agency paid me, and took out the taxes required. I was paid on a weekly basis.
Many years ago, I used a temp agency to provide me with income after I graduated from college as well as during vacation periods during the school holidays. I always got work and always enjoyed the short term employment (from as little as a week and as long as until I left one job for a permanent position in social work which was a good 3-4 months)
Several times I was offered a job at the company I was temping with.
I have told my kids to look into temp work. I think it's a great option for short term work and it's nice to be able to turn down a job if you don't feel like working when you get called.
I never paid a fee and thought I was paid well for the work I did-mostly secretarial/clerical.
I worked for Kelly Services during college, mostly on weekends doing food demos, etc. and then office jobs during the summer. I guess they liked me because they offered me a job when I graduated from college. So I started as a receptionist in their office and then moved up to Supervisor. I enjoyed working for them as a temp and as a permanent employee.
Generally if a company wanted to hire a temp as a permanent employee, there was a waiting period of 90 days, then they could hire you without a fee. At that time, there were no benefits for temps, but I think that has changed since then. It is a great idea to work temporary if you need flexibility in your schedule.
When i needed a year's placement as part of my college degree i used an employment agency to find a job and found them very helpful. I would also register with several agencies as previous posters have said and hopefully you will get a good job that you like from one of them.
I used to run a PrideStaff office placing administrative temps and temp-to-hire positions. Our employees did not pay us any fees but did have to pass an interview, reference check and pretty rigorous testing including typing, data entry, MS Office products and spelling and grammar. It can be a great way to try out different companies or find a short term position covering someones sick or maternity leave. A good agency (Kelly, Manpower, etc) should not charge you any fees. The more flexible you can be with your availability and hourly rate, the faster you will find a position.
When I was unemployed a few years ago I went to a temp agency. I too, went through all the paperwork and took all the computer tests and then....Nothing. I never heard a word from them. I tried following up a couple of times but still nothing. Sorry, I don't know what advice to give you.
Thanks everyone! I might have to look into it... While I love staying home & working from home.. I'm just at a point in my life where I need to 'get away' but don't want to make a long term commitment...
