As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). I know that you can find rude people anywhere but it seems like we see more at Universal than Disney. The last time that we were there, we were in the Express Line for Spiderman. There was a group of kids about 10-12 y/o behind us in line. I think that were about 10 of them. I think they were cheerleaders or a dance team. There was no adult with them. First, I know that they hadn't waited that long because it was the Express line. I know that kids get excited but this was bad. First, they keep pushing & shoving me & DD. Then they were using foul language. When we got into the car, some of them got in with us. As I was placing my fanny pack into the package holder in front, one of them grabbed the bar, pulled it down & hit me in the head. Then they screamed so loud on the ride that we couldn't hear anything that was said by the characters in the ride. As we were getting off & walking out, I turned to them & told them that since they didn't know how to behave, that they needed an adult with them. When we got out onto the sidewalk, they went up to the women who were with them & told them what I said. They came over to me & asked if I had a problem with their kids & I said yes. I told them all that these kids had done. I actually expected an apology. She said remember they're kids to which I said yes & they need adult supervision. AT that point she starting yelling at me. Between her & these kids, I had just about enough.I told her I had no problem reporting them for rude behavior & I hoped that they were thrown out. She yelled at me again to which I replied that I could handle her if I needed to. She then walked off. I have kids & I have taken many groups of kids to parks before. I always stay with them. If I hear of one of the kids that I am watching being rude, I tell them to apolize. I think to allow kids to basically run wild without supervision if just asking for trouble. I just neede to vent.

I totally agree. The last time I went to the zoo I left after about 3 or 4 hours starving & not having seen much. I swear half the grade school aged population of Seattle was at the zoo that day (a Friday w/ schools in session) & nowhere near enough adults & they were all running, yelling, pushing, jumping etc. regardless of where they were. It seems like being rude, obnoxious & inconsiderate is ok as long as you're not one being inconvenienced, shoved etc. now a days. I'm sorry you had to experience that.
No. I think people can be rude anywhere. If you haven't run into rude people at Disney you are very lucky. I have actually run into more rude people at Disney but I attribute that to the fact that I have spent a lot more time at Disney.
As far as cast members, I have been very lucky in my encounters at Universal. No so at Disney. I have encountered a good number of very rude and inconsiderate cast members at Disney. Again, I attribute it to the fact I have spent more time there.

I am so sorry that you have had rude cast members at Disney. I don't think I have ever seen that. I would be more upset about that I think. The main thing that made me so mad aboout the lady being rude was the fact that she saw nothing wrong with letting these kids run around by themselves & be rude. What is she teaching those kids? You never know what type of adults could have been around those kids since there were no adults with them.

I agree! Rude people are everywhere, but considering I've spend far more time at WDW than at US/IOA I've encountered far more there
I work as a Primary Care Provider. I had a 14y/o girl as a patient once who was being raised by her grandmother. She was diagnosed with ADHD. She was definitely a problem child. She would laugh about disobeying her grandmother, laying out of school, and getting in trouble at school. I told her very sternly once that her grandmother didn't have to raise her and was doing it out of the goodness of her heart. I told her that if her grandmother got in trouble because of her missing so much school, that the state would place her with whoever that wanted to raise her. I told her that I would not allow her to talk dis-respectful to her grandmother in my office. I told her that I would raise the dose of her medication but it there were still problems that she was going over my knee & she wouldn't want that! The grandmother told me that she never had problems with her again
Once when DD was in middle school, they had problems with a bully. This was a private school & this kid had been kicked out of public school for a year. His mother was told that they would not tolerate his behavior. The problem was, he never did anything where teachers or the head master could see. If a student said something, the kid was asked about it & he denied it. Then the bully made it harder on the kid. My DD, my niece, & a friend were being targeted because they were cheerleaders & he was on the basketball team. I got to a game one day after work ( the kids had stayed after school for the game) & DD was almost in tears. She said while they were warming up, this kid kept hitting them in the head with basketballs. Being the over-protective mother, my temper showed up. After the game, I confronted the bully. When I asked him about it, he laughed & said I couldn't do anything about it. This kid was big for his age. I got up in his face, nose to nose & toe to toe. I said "you're a lot bigger than these kids but I'm a lot bigger than you so how do you feel right now? You don't know what I can do to you do you?" He broke down in tears & confessed to the head master right there. The bully's mother was called over by the head master & informed of what happened. She said he wouldn't have done all those things. The head master told her that he confessed & one more problem, he was gone to alternative school. DD said when she went to school the next day, everyone was talking about what a hero her mother was for teaching the bully what it felt like. He never bothered anyone again

No. I've actually had no problems with people at Us/IOA. I've had plenty of rude encounters at WDW. Of course I've only spent a total of eight days at US/IOA, and many, many more at WDW.

No, Universal guests and/or employees are not ruder than Disney. Keep in mind that a lot of people visit both resorts on their Orlando vacations. And a lot of employees work for both places. I've encountered rude people at both Disney and Universal, and I've encountered "magical" people at both.
We thought the guests at US/IOA were ruder than those we've encountered at Disney. And behaviors, like sitting on the "fence dividers" in the queue areas, were tolerated at US where they would have been stopped at WDW.
The biggest difference, though, was in the staff. The only workers at Universal who seemed to like their jobs were the ones in WWoHP and Seuss Island. The others couldn't have cared less.
I've encountered rude people at both parks. We've had some rude CMs at Disney, but that's an exception definitely. Most of them are fine, and some are terrific. I guess when you think about the general population, those percentages about sum it up: some are rude, most are fine, and a few are exceptionally kind. It's not different at a theme park than in everyday life, although you would think people would be in a better mood on vacation. As for the kids, I am glad you spoke up. I'm tired of tolerating abysmal behavior because of lazy parenting or people's selfishness. I hate confrontation myself but I will say I think there is some truth to the adage "the squeaky wheel gets the grease".

The expression "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree" is more true these days than ever. Whenever I hear about teachers or other people having an issue with a kid and then being shocked that their parents do nothing about it or defend the child, I just have to shake my head. Where do you think the kids learn that acting like a jerk is acceptable behavior?
It all comes down to this sense of entitlement the people feel they have these days. It's the "rules apply to everyone but me" attitude you see everywhere.
