As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). We're looking for a 3 day weekend getaway right after DD finishes school.
Door County has made the short list.
Other than the restaurant with the goats on the roof (mentioned in another thread -- I need to find it) what should we see or do?
Any other suggestions for a long weekend outside of Minneapolis?
Door County has a lot of "arty" shops. You can browse through picturesque shops of clothes, paintings etc. If you have young children, there's not a lot to do. We mostly relax and read during our trips there.

I enter sweepstakes and for at least 7 years have been on their email list.
They have some restored lighthouses. Yep in Wisconsin they have lighthouses. There are petting farms, lighthouse tours, kayak tours, bike tours, sports equipment rental such as bikes, and zooming down a zip line. I deleted a lot of site lists but not Door County as it sounds like a fun place. I can dig up an old email maybe.
Mom calls to check on me and reminded me to pay the gardener. I love her so much.
Disneyland was fun with flag retreat and pickles. I have a home here, thank you. GAC is NOT a "front of the line pass".

We're very fond of the town of Ephraim. Our favorite place to stay is the Eagle Harbor Inn: Eagle Harbor Inn The 1 and 2 bedroom suites are great! They have a mini kitchen, a fireplace and a jacuzzi in the room. They don't include breakfast, but we stop at the Wood Orchard Market Wood Orchard on our way into the county and pick up a cherry coffee cake and we're all set. If you get to Ephraim be sure to stop at Wilson's Ice Cream Parlor for lunch (or at least for ice cream). It's worth a visit.
If you like wine I can recommend the Stone's Throw Winery: Stones Throw Winery I their Red Zin. And if you are into Christmas decorations be sure to stop by the Tannenbaum Shop: http://www.tannenbaumholidayshop.com/aboutus.cfm. I never go up there without buying a few new ornaments.

Ooooh! Door County! When I was in my 20's, my family traveled up that way one or two times a year. Then my hubby and I honeymooned there! Obviously, one of my favorite places to stay. We have stayed on the Green Bay side each visit, in Egg Harbor, Fish Creek, Ephraim, and Sister Bay (various resorts in all those towns). Our favorite is Ephraim - it is so picturesque and just very convenient to the marina, shops, restaurants, etc.
As for places to visit, we love Cave Point Park, which is on the Lake Michigan side. Peninsula State Park in Fish Creek is wonderful also. Good place to bike, and also to take a drive and make stops along the way. We also enjoying taking catamaran rides from both Fish Creek and Ephraim with Stiletto Sailing Cruises. And no trip is complete without a visit to the Skyway Drive-in theatre in Fish Creek. Oh, and there are a good number of stage theatres in Door County. Our favorite winery is the Door Peninsula Winery in Carlsville, which is between Egg Harbor and Sturgeon Bay. I'm sure I am missing something!
For dining, Al Johnson's in Sister Bay is the restaurant with the goats on the roof. You must try their Swedish Meatballs or the Swedish Pancakes with Lingonberries. Yum! A mixture between dinner and attraction is a fish boil. We enjoy The Viking in Ellison Bay mainly because we love the relaxed atmosphere here. White Gull Inn in Fish Creek also has a fantastic fish boil, along with wonderful breakfasts, as does the Old Post Office Restaurant (both fish boil and incredible breakfasts!) in Ephraim. For a good sandwich and great view, try the Second Story Restaurant in Ephraim.
As for lodging, are you looking for a bed & breakfast, condo-style resort, or regular inn type location? We have stayed in all types of lodgings...
We spend a lot of time in Door County. Our favorite places to eat are Donnie's Glidden Lodge and Trio.
I would also recommend a bike ride through Penninsula State park and a visit to at least one of the lighthouses.
The Door County Maritime Museum in Sturgeon Bay always has cool exhibits as well as boat tours. The last time we were there DH and DD10 spent at least an hour and a half exploring the various exhibits. I think the special exhibit this summer is Haunted Lighthouses.
For pizza you have to try Sonny's in Sturgeon Bay. While its not as good as our pizza in Chicago it is a local institution and has a pizza buffet several nights each week.
