Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Where to go...where to go????

So, my BFF and I have decided that we need a vacation. We are ready to get on a plane tomorrow and take off. Now, aint gonna happen without some planning and as much as we BOTH would love to go to WDW with out our respective DHs and DSs....that ain't gonna happen either! SOOOOO, we would like some ideas of where would be fun to go on the West Coast. We live in Alaska, so we are trying to keep the costs down a little just so that we can go on WDW trips with out families later on.

ANY SUGGESTIONS???????

Arizona is where DH's bio dad and stepmom live. If I show up there without him....would be in deep doo-doo. We went there when DS was around 7 and really enjoyed the limited time we had. Got to see the Grand Canyon and Tombstone and just had fun!!

Napa Valley - wine country, right? What else is there to do there?
Would love to see the other side of the Grand Canyon. We saw it from the Arizona side a few years ago.
DH just got back from Vegas....maybe a girl's trip there wouldn't be a bad idea......HMMMMMMM

I loved San Diego! Plenty to do there, and the weather is almost always perfect (75 and sunny).

Yes San Diego is the best. I'm from California and that is my recommendation. There's a lot you can do and it's close enough to take a day trip to DLR. If you get a Southern California city pass it includes a 3 day park hopper to DLR, ticket to Universal Studios, ticket to SeaWorld, and ticket to the San Diego Zoo or Wild Animal park. Costs about $279 which is awesome for all that's included.

This is where I would go. I would be climbing the side of it.
Here would be nice too.

Without the kids I would go somewhere beautiful to look at with some activity if they did I would be a wreck, but alone I would do. A spa is a plus but not needed, a pool/ hot tub yes please. If there is a natural water even better.

BTW I'm jealous you are getting away. and I would love to visit where you are someday, maybe when the kids are older and I'm not so worried about time zone changes.

Okay - I'm have a small issue with heights (not exactly terrified of them, but not really my favorite either)....so that is not on my current to-do list....could change - never thought I wanted to zipline til I tried it at scout camp with DS and now I'm all over that! It was AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!! And that was a little zipline!

Alaska is a great place....I love living here and definately recommend it as a vacation destination! What time of year depends entirely on what you like to do! Although if you are looking for beaches to lounge on....not so much here. Most beaches are either rocky (good place to go beach combing) or muddy/silty (good place to get REALLY stuck - and maybe get trapped if you aren't careful). And swimming is Alaska water....not really something most people do, even the lakes are pretty cold and you definately don't want to do much swimming in the ocean. Though there are a few diehards who windsurf or surf on really good days.

And BTW - this girl's trip has been a long time coming....both of us have boys and the youngest is finally 12 (or maybe 13....I have a hard time keeping track - it goes so fast!), so I know where you are coming from!

If you are concerned about the costs of your flights, I would go to a popular destination like Vegas, San Fransisco, or LA. I've found that many of the more beautiful and off the beaten path destinations are very expensive to fly in to.

I love Monterey Bay, but would fly into SF and drive down. You could spend a few days in each.

I also have enjoyed Disneyland-it is quite different than WDW and you could do other attractions in S. California. We also had a great time in Palm Springs, especially nice if you golf.

Have fun.

A quick trip for you would be to fly into Seattle and then either drive to one of the national parks, stay in the city or go up to the San Juan Islands.

I have the same issues with heights and as my new years res. I am trying to concur some of them. I started at an indoor climbing gym and am hooked. I have an outdoor one planned for mid june (still cold here). In Aug. I'm going to try surfing, I have a fear of the under tow. I figure if I'm doing something physical maybe I'll forget for a min.
I have no Idea when we would like to visit, since losing weight I don't love cold ( I will suck it up to sled and build a snowman). We like hiking, camping, fishing(well not me) sun bathing (me and anywhere works), rock digging. and all the "normal" stuff too. We are open for all suggestions.

Another thing I want to do is mine for diamonds in Arkansas or other gems.

Well, we have some BEAUTIFUL places for day or overnight hikes, camping...pretty much anywhere you look, fishing....uh, can you can Salmon fishing from - well, you know what I as going to say, sun bathing....it can be done and in the summer we have sun for 20 hours out of the day, not sure about rock digging, but there are places to go gold panning.

Then there are the glacier/wildlife cruises, bus tours thru Denali, train trips that take you north or south, there are places to horseback ride, bike ride, take a dog sled ride....I could go on and on.............

Hey this thread is about where I want to go and needing suggestions and here I am encouraging you to come up here!!! But all joking aside, I hope you make it up here some day!

would probably be best answered by a travel agent or someone who frequently goes to WDW. Okay so my family of 2.
