Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Angry Don't you love when people think they know Disney... (rant)

So my family and I will be visiting WDW in may. Tagging along will be my mom, dad, sister and brother in-law. My sister has only visited MK when she was 9 (that was in 1996). I'm in charge of planning the trip and although I've only gone twice before I do have some knowledge of the parks, as I do alot of research (yes, I'm a Disney freak). Anyways, my sister is always giving tips on what to do in the parks: buy souvenirs outside, take your own food, etc. Now, the new tip my sister has given me is to take a rolling cooler into the parks with our food for the day so we can save money. I told her that those coolers are not permitted and she was like "yes they are, my co-worker told me that he uses them there all the time". I don't know, but the times I've been there I've never seen anyone with those and in the Disney site it says that large coolers ( as in 24" x 15" x 18" ) are not permitted. Am I wrong? I like to abide by the rules, no need for embarrassment at the bag check.

What bugs me is that she's telling me all this second hand advice she's getting and she thinks she's an Disney expert. I'm afraid she's going to be this way when we get there and say stuff like "let's do this because ____ told me it's better this way", etc. I don't want my vacation to be ruined by things like these. Am I wrong to think and feel this way?

Its a good thing you're seeing this now, so you can plan for the way she may be on vacation.

And about the rolling coolers--There is a limit it is listed on the FAQ site on the WDW pages http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/faq.../#subCategory8 :

Are there any personal items I should not bring with me into the theme parks?
    • Suitcases, coolers or backpacks with or without wheels larger than 24" (61 cm) long x 15" (38 cm) wide x 18" (46 cm) high. (Coolers required for medication may be stored in a locker or at Guest Relations.)

YIKES! I feel for you!
As you can see, she is not correct in her info. Good luck with the trip - and I hope she doesn't make the trip too challenging for you!

I didn't think you were allowed to have anything in the park that had wheels (except the obvious wheelchairs etc). I hope she doesn't ruin the trip with her incorrect second hand info.

Well, if she insists, then she can be the one that drags the cooler on the bus and into the park only to be told she needs a locker for it. Maybe she needs her own copy of Passporter.

All I can say is I feel for you! I sure hope she gets her head on straight before your trip, or just let her go do her own thing, and screw up her own vacation! this is one reason why I refuse to go with family anymore. I am the unofficial Disney freak here too, but my grandmother thinks shes so up to date in everything because they live in west palm. And my mom, well shes a whole other story...we used to go every year when I was little, but she hadn't been since about 1990, & we only ever stayed at the campground. She thinks in so misinformed about everything. She refuses to think things have changed in 21 yrs! Lol

Should the behavior persist, I would go with my own plans for the day, meeting up for a few rides & meals. It is YOUR vacation too; don't let someone else dictate your plans.

Hmmmm, I wonder if she is related to my dad?? LOL!! Trust me, I could go on and on about ordeals I've had with him in regards to Disney. Although, I do give him credit for creating the love of Disney in me! But now days, I just don't go to Disney with them. If they wanted to go with us, they could, but it would be booked seperately. That way if he is determined to do things that I know good and well won't work, then he can and it won't mess up my vacation! Live and learn! I would definitely say that if your sister insists on using her second hand advice, make sure she is aware that you disagree and when it comes back to bite her in the hiney, ensure she remembers that it was HER idea. And if she wants to drag a cooler around all day, let HER do it. I sure wouldn't! For me, if I am so strapped for cash that I would have to drag a cooler around vs just getting a beverage or snack, I think I would just wait and save more money! But, that's just ME! LOL!

I stopped giving advice a long time ago. Most people never listened. You told them something and they did the opposite. Then they blamed me for getting caught in a crowd or not having a good time. Its easier to tell them to buy a book and figure it out themselves.

Rolling coolers are allowed as long as they are within the guidelines:

Suitcases, coolers or backpacks with or without wheels larger than 24" (61 cm) long x 15" (38 cm) wide x 18" (46 cm) high

As someone who has made multiple trips with extended family, I strongly encourage you to plan days where you can break off into your immediate family and tour separately! It saved my sanity more than once! Good luck!

How frustrating! One of the reasons I am so excited to be going with just me and the kids. This way I get the final say if we are (or are not) following a suggestion
