As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

Crud. My TV/VCR/DVD combo is dead in the water. It shuts off after about two seconds of being on. Now I need to find a cheap TV, a cheap, DVD player, and a VCR. Any suggestions for a decent TV that isn't tiny (can't see the small ones) and doesn't cost an arm and a leg?

Can it be repaired for a reasonable amount? My kids are pretty good at fixing things-it could be something minor. The rule I've heard is if the repair is less than half the cost to replace, you should do it.
Maybe you will be lucky like me. I woke up Saturday and thought my 20+ year old washing machine was broken. While I was trying to figure out how to afford a new one and get it replaced before I left to go to Texas on Thursday, I realized that I had accidentally hit the button that shuts it off.

You are more lucky than you know, Huntermom! The new washers just don't last like the old ones do. I've gone thru 2 since I've lived in this house (7 years)! At our old house, I had been using the washer for 7 years and it had been there many, many more (belonged to the lady I bought the house from).
As for the tv/vcr/dvd, I think I would see if I could get it repaired if you need the vcr. Can you even buy a vcr anymore?

I feel your pain -- our TV up and died the night before we left for Florida in Nov. Can't really complain, though. I bought it in 1991 so I think I got my money's worth out of it.
dont know if you have one near you or not but we had to replace ours recently and got an awesome deal! we went to HHGREGG it is now considered walmart, sears and best buys biggest competion around here.
my in laws just got 2 new tvs both vizio's from walmart at good deal too so thats always an option too if you do not have a HHGREGG near you. good luck!!
I have found that the brands that make TVs for Best Buy are pretty good deals--I have a Dynex . . .its a Best Buy only brand--which are made by a major name brand without the label--Sony, LG, or . . .
I have a fairly large flat screen that I bought on sale at Best Buy, plus I bought the floor model which saved me an extra 10%
I live in the middle of no-where so no repair places around! :P My parents are going to check their garage for a spare TV for me, which is a HUGE relief. I'll have to wait for the weekend, but I can do that. I mostly read anyway (who knows how long this one has been dead- the last time I watched TV was Christmas Eve!). Good to know about the DVD/VCR combos! Thanks everyone!

Holly, I do love my old washer and I agree they don't make things the way they used to make them. When I replaced my 33 year old furnace last winter, everyone assured me I would not get more than 15 years out of my new one.

I would ask around too. When our old vcr broke I considered getting a new one. A friend bought her son a tv/dvd combo and was just going to toss the tv/vcr combo. It is a small tv, but it was free! A lot of people don't want the vcr anymore. And my 15yr old DS has gotten a tv (old one, not flat screen) from a friend who upgraded. It's worth mentioning, you never know who has an old tv around!
