Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Nearby convenience stores?

Is there a convenience store near Disneyland Hotel? I'm looking for a place to buy a case or two of Coke, but it has to be within walking distance (remembering that we are carrying a couple cases of Coke back with us!)

There are a few 7-11s off property. I think the closest one is right around the intersection of Katella Ave. and Harbor Blvd.

Other than that, your best bet would be to taxi it to Target (not too far away) or a grocery store. A taxi shouldn't cost more than about $7-8, I think.

Sorry but there are no close convenience stores. The 7-11 is southeast of Disneyland and a mile walk. There is an Arco and a Shell Station. Walk to Magic Way and turn right. Cross the street, over the hill to Ball then cross the street west and north or vice versus. For Shell make a left to Walnut then right to Ball. I have not been there lately. You can use a taxi or ART buses. Google also lists convenience stores in the area.

Thanks! Hm, never thought about taking the ART bus. Cheaper than a cab, easier than walking... I might have to look into that a bit further. I'm trying to cheap out a little on our vacation and buy coke ahead of time to bring on board our ship, so I'm not sure if it would be worth going through the trouble if I have to grab a taxi....

While the distances are not far for convenience stores, none of them are really convenient to the Disneyland Hotel(for example, for AM/PM the most direct route would take you through the esplanade where you'd have to go thru bag check), especially walking with two cases of soda. Looking into ART might work. I know Albertson's Grocery Store used to do delivery, and there might be others. Are you taking a towncar/taxi from the airport? Maybe the driver would do a quick stop off then?

We are going to grab a shuttle from John Wayne Airport to Disneyland. I was kind of thinking a towncar service might stop for us real quick at a CVS or something on our way to port. But I think we'll likely be taking a shuttle there instead. I've looked into ART, but unless I send Dan to go alone () it'll cost $8 to get the 2 of us there and back... We may just end up junking the idea - I don't know if it's worth it if I have to pay as much in transportation costs as what a couple cases of pop costs.

Thanks for your input and ideas everybody!!

Wheelchair and stroller are my favorite shopping carts. If you have a stroller you can carry the drinks in the stroller and it would be about a mile and a quarter walk. Talk to town car companies to see prices and if the would include a quick store run. If nothing else contact me a couple days before hand to see my schedule, I could drop off a couple cases of soda pop at say $50 each.
Note to mods: the price is a joke, honest, cross my heart and if I lie you can strap me to the Orange Stinger.

<thinking> hm... For $50 I'd be better off buying the pop on the ship! </thinking>

No strollers for us anymore although the wheelchair/scooter may be a possibility by the end of our 5 days at DLR. Hoping not, but being realistic at the same time. I've done WDW in a chair the last 2 times I went and I really really don't want to do DLR in one. I'll have to see if I can contact some town car co's and see what they can do re grocery stops. I would never ask anybody to go out of their way to bring me something silly like a case of pop though (a Dooney purse?... yep. But not Coke. ) but I really appreciate the offer!

psst, I live about 10 miles from Disney property, it is like 01 to 15 minutes by car.
We are going to be at DLR next Tuesday for Mom's birthday. DLR is never out of my way. If you do need a wheelchair I have one in the back seat of my car. Sometimes hotels will loan one to guests who incur problems during a trip. I could not get the trunk open so they loaned me a wheelchair during a day trip to Disneyland Hotel. We also did a bit of book shopping at Downtown Disney but they seem to know us so not sure if it was a favor or something they do for guests. We were not staying at the hotel that time.

The cost of getting a folding luggage cart would outweigh the cost of the soda pop. Luggage with wheels would not last the mile trip probably. Let us know wht happens with the town car company and if you do use a town car service then that is a special added treat to your vacation. Tell family and friends you went all out on this trip and got a town car. lol

According to the ART map they do not service the Disneyland Hotel.

Your limo is the next best bet if they will stop for a few minutes.

I doubt a shuttle service will.

Back to the Disneyland Hotel, I believe mechurchlady is talking about the Shell at 1198 W. Ball at Walnut and Ball which is the closest walking distance of .5 miles and .1 mile shorter than 1037 Ball Rd. as DebiDebiDebi indicates (more or less) which is at Ball Rd. and Disneyland Dr., if you do use Walnut for walking to Ball Rd. When walking to Ball Rd. use Walnut which is west of the hotel and not east using Disneyland Dr. Walnut would be traffic safer and have sidewalks.

The third choice of DebiDebiDebi's is not mine.

The 7-11 at Katella and Harbor and the ABC Market at 1765 S. Harbor, which are also at Katella and Harbor (Next to Candy Cane Inn) are closer.

Going west on Katella Food 4 Less is closer at 1616 W. Katella Ave. Food 4 Less is open 24 hours.

As another thought, if you are in Disneyland walk across the street to Howard Johnson on Harbor Blvd. as they have a small type convenience store on property. I have not seen it and you might want to telephone first to verify they have cases available. They do have 6 packs.

As a last resort Ralph's charges $9.95 for deliveries plus food. Call them for full information on delivery times and full information.

There is one place closer than even the 7-11 (Katella and Harbor-1.7 miles) and that is Wonderland Liqour at 1178 W. Katella. Go out to Disneyland Dr and go south (that would be right if you placed the Disneyland Hotel to your back). Go down to Katella ( about the same as 2 long blocks) and turn right again. Walk one long block until you come to the traffic light at Walnut St. Cross Katella and you are there. It is about .7 miles each way.

Just to clarify: I wasn't giving my picks (as I have no opinion as to which is better) but was giving a short list of different mini-marts to choose from. I did choose the closest ones to the hotel (per Google Map) for my short list.

I came down Euclid then east on Katella. Definitely a convenience store on Katella across from DLR parking lot between Walnut and Disneyland way or what ever that street next to GCH is called.

I know there is because we've done business there several times while staying at any of the 3 resort hotels. Prices are not unthinkable either.
