As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

Long story short: I need a source for skorts (not skirts) that are long.
DD starts middle school in Sept. The school dress code says skirts and shorts must be longer than the student's extended fingertips.
She'd rather wear skorts to school than shorts. I bought her some bermuda shorts but she hates them -- says they "look dorky." She loved the outfits they're featuring at Target (the plaid skort and coordinating sweater set) but the skort part is too short. Way too short!
She's long waisted, so we lose quite a bit of the arm length measure to her torso. But the rule is the rule.
We've always thought her skorts were borderline, but this is the first time a school has defined "too short." I haven't had trouble in the past buying skirts, but she wants the shorts built in. They still have recess in fifth grade, and free reading time were they sit on the floor.
Have you tried this? my DD loves skirts, but is all over the playground, so I have for her 2 pr of white "bike" shorts and 2 pr black, so she wears these under the skirt...
the neutral colors go with almost any skirt, and while not attached, let her wear the skirts she likes while she hangs off the monkey bars

Yup, we do skirts with leggings or shorts underneath all the time. DD is too tall for the skorts we have found.
leggings don't matter. They still measure the hemline from what I've been told.
I know her Childrens Place skorts are too short. I'll check Lands End again. Last time I bought some they weren't any longer than the others.

Yeah we just find plenty of skirts that are long enough but never any skorts. Childrens Place always has cute twirly skirts.
My dd has a few skorts, one I know- came from the children's place and I think the other came from Old Navy. I wish they were readily available at more places..... We also struggle with finding shorts and skirts that are long enough for school. I am under the assumption that most schools have similar dress codes. (My dd also can't wear sleveless shirts). But almost all the cute back to school clothes are in violation of the dress code! I don't get it. I do get the dress code and can only imagine what some would wear without it and I appreciate modesty- but I don't get how all these clothing stores are selling things kids can't wear to school. We ended up getting my dd a light and short jean vest to wear over many of her sleveless shirts so that she can wear them to school. Most of her shorts and skirts barely meet the requirement- like your dd, she is long in the torso making the dress code a little more difficult.....
I bought all of DDs' skorts at Land's End. They always met dress code and my personal code. I don't allow my kids to wear most clothing that is currently popular, it shows too much skin.
The recommendation for shorts is good.

As the school year starts, everything seems to be okay - the girls are wearing clothes that cover them appropriately and the boys are wearing pants that actually fit. One really big thing here is NO HATS!! The kids (mostly boys) are not allowed to wear any kind of head covering in the school. Reasoning - it's disrespectful....HUH?? ANYWAY - we follow the rule. DS and I can live with this. He isn't into the "fashionable" clothes. Jeans (that actually fit) and t-shirts are a-okay with him (YEAH!!!). But as the year progresses.....the clothes that the girls wear!!!! Really, it's okay for half the female students to wear clothes that barely cover them....high cut tank tops with spaghetti straps and jeans cut so low I'm surprised that I'm not seeing parts I really don't want to see...but it's disrespectful for DS (or another boy) to wear a hat in the school building? I just don't get it.
I know there is the whole ta-do about gang colors and such, but DS likes to wear his hats from DW and US or the ones I bring him from my trips out the the middle of no-where.
I am really glad that our school district doesn't have an extremely strict dress code, but they really do need to enforce what is there on all the students! I am sick of seeing girl's b*** cr****!!!!

Okay - I can see where you are coming from - I always insist that there are no hats at the dinner table and when at Boy Scout stuff, no hats in the dining hall - tho they can wear them for other indoor activities.
But it kills me that they make such a huge deal over hats when these barely teenage girls are wearing things that make them look like tramps and no one says a thing!!!
They really do need to enforce the "dress code" they have in place....or else make a stricter one that requires uniforms.

I was always told that it was disrespectful because there was an American flag in each classroom and that you're not supposed to wear your hat when the flag is present.
A more current thinking (and why we ban hats and hoods in my school) is that when a student has a hat or hood on, the security cameras in the ceiling cannot always identlfy them.

For anyone who thinks that dress codes aren't fair, should be lightened up, etc, move to wear I live - there's no dress code whatsoever except for the cafeteria and maintenance staff. Once in a while, the girls will actually come in wearing those lounging pants or whatever they're called but more often than not, rain or shine, snow or not they wear shorts that are way too low on the top and way too high on the bottom and the barely there skimpy tops. They might as well come just wearing a thong bikini - and they shouldn't be bending over in their shorts either but they do. The boys on the other hand where shorts all year long and the very few that do wear jeans have them hanging down so you can see that they like plaid boxers. They're also allowed to wear hats. And the absolute worst part about this whole thing? I'm in the middle school. Plus, there are 2 teachers who are suppose to be on lunch duty but they're so busy doing everything else that they don't see anything - even when these girls with the too short shorts start sitting on the laps of the boys.
I for one wish that there would be a dress code or school uniform as I'm just appalled at the fashions nowadays. There's no need IMO to make or sell clothing that makes young girls and teenagers look like street walkers in the making and that's all I see out there (and shame on the parents that don't see anything wrong with this trend). It might be different in other parts of the country but that's all I see here in my neck of the woods.
Land's End, L. L. Bean, or Kmart/Sears. I worked at Kmart in high school and bought all my skorts there and still do find plenty of them there every summer.
Even as an adult, I like a pair of leggings or Spanx with a skirt because sometimes I join in on a game of soccer or kickball with Spawn's play group or a neighborhood game of tag with other parents and kids.
