As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I'm trying to line up an internship for my fall quarter. Registration starts Monday August 9th; so I have to have all my paper work turned in by Friday August 6th in order to register.
I know where I want to intern and I have spoken with someone in the office that said they do accept interns, but I need to speak with the chief to get it all lined up.
I HAVE to complete this internship in order to graduate. This will be my last quarter and I am starting to get nervous......
Monday- no answer, voice mail full
Tuesday- no answer, voice mail full
Wednesday- answer, chief not in- leave message with lady that answered
Thursday- she is not in right now, call back this afternoon. called back and was told she is not in to call back tomorrow.
Friday- she is not in today, call back Monday.
Ugh! I have an appointment with my advisor on Thursday and I have to get this lined up by the end of next week or I don't know what I am going to do!
So, any good thoughts that I can get her on the phone and that she is helpful in getting things line up quickly is appreciated.........
I went through something like this for my internship. I kept trying & finally got to talk to everyone that I needed to & it went great. I know now that I chose a great place for my internship. Everything will work out for you too!!
Can you email this person? Or possibly talk to your advisor and have your advisor call? I had a similar experience a year ago while trying to line up my internship. I finally was able to get in touch with someone AFTER my advisor called. It amazes me that places are slow to respond or don't respond at all when they have the offer of FREE LABOR knocking at their door!!! Hang in there! Hopefully all will work out in the end.

It is frustrating when something is so important to you but not so much to the other person involved. I would keep after them until you get them on the phone.
I was going to suggest email, too. It easier and often quicker for me to respond to an email than a call and I am less likely to end up playing phone tag.
If you are paying your school to supervise your internship, I would make sure my advisor helped out. Is this a place that regularly accepts students from your school? If not I would look into places that do as a back up. Many schools offer vouchers for classes in exchange for supervising a student. I have had schools offer me a voucher in exchange for taking on a student, but I generally have no interest in taking a class nor do I know anyone who would use it.
An internship really shouldn't be just free labor and a good internship will require a lot of effort from the supervisor. I would be concerned that even if the placement accepts interns, they may not want to take one on right now and that is the reason your calls aren't being returned.
I forgot to add I hope you're not looking for an internship that will start in September. For many agencies, especially governmental ones, it may not be as easy as come on down, we could use your help. If you are doing something that may make them liable for your actions, they may have some approvals to get and need some verifications.
Thanks everyone.
When I call Monday, if she is not in I am going to ask if she has an email I can contact her at. I may resort to going into the office, but if she is truly not in- I don't know how much it would help. I'm just really hoping I get it worked out Monday!
My advisor knows where I am trying to intern and she didn't offer to call or anything, so I'm assuming she has no connections there. If I don't get anywhere Monday, I will ask her for suggestions/help.
My internship will need to start in October and yes, it is with a government agency. I have done some intern-type work before (with the county, not this specific office) and so they have some of my information readily available including an extensive background check; so I am hoping that if she approves me to intern, that they can use that information to help speed things along (hopefully).
And no, unfortunately this office does not (likely) get interns from our college very often. I live in a rural county and we do have one campus in our town, but it is small and most people attend , live, and intern with other counties. I also attend campus some in the other locations/other counties, but I'd really like to intern with the county that 1- is a close drive and 2- I would actually like to eventually work for.
But if for some reason this does not work out and my advisor is able to direct me elsewhere- I will do whatever it takes to graduate!
Being not one to put all my eggs in one basket, I would get a list of places your school usually places interns and look into those as well as the one you really want. I would not be overly optimistic about the placement you really want. The chief sounds very busy and not all that interested in taking on an intern. And if she does take you on, is she going to be more available to you? It won't be a great experience if your supervisor doesn't have time to teach you.
I hate it when people drop by my office unannounced. Showing up at my office without an appointment will not get you very far with me. I am often in the middle of something or worse getting ready to leave for court or an appointment and even a few minutes delay can make me late. So before you stop by you need to feel someone out about whether it will help or hurt. If you're good at talking people up, see what information you can get from the person who answers the phone. You could even ask if that person thinks it might help if you stop by to drop off a resume.
Do you know anyone in the office? Or in a similar position in another county? Does anyone from your old internship know someone in this office? They may be better at directing you. You can also look online for an email address-lots of governments now have staff addresses online. If you can find a fax number, you could also fax over a letter.
