As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

I know it's very early on, but figured i'd ask if anyone from PP has been to it yet? Funny thing is, I haven't read the books, and only really liked the first movie. But I'm dying to go and check this out!

Well I cheated a little on PP and went over to the DisBoards. I've only been there 2 or 3 times and don't even have an account. But there does seem to be alot more talk about WWoHP over there. It's very interesting to read all the stuff that people have been experiencing. I do notice people over there are more negative in general. There have been gripes about the size of the area, being too small. And one of the rides not accomodation people a little larger in size, FJ or Forbidden Journey. But it was neat to get more info on this new area. So if you want to read up on it, check their threads out here:

My DH is 5'11 and 250 lbs. Big chest.... wonder if he will fit. He had problems with one ride at Cedar Point but has lost some since.
I am 5'9'' at 190(lost 25) but I have a size "F" cup. Wonder if I will fit. Lost weight but never in the top..
Be interesting to see...... what they will do with it when it really opens to the public.

We just returned from a Disney / Universal trip and were able to get into the Harry Potter area. It was very cool! You really do feel like you stepped into the movies / books. I won't kid you though. The shops are very small. It's a tight squeeze to walk around. I'm not sure what they will do when the summer crowds really hit.
We enjoyed ourselves though! In fact, we took some time to sit and soak in the atmosphere. It really is a neat feeling to walk around amongst the wonderfully detailed buildings.

I have heard that about the shops, how small they are. Kind of a bummer. Especially when some of the shops are just facades or storage...Did you try the Butter beer or get any cool merchandise?

Such a shame that universal didn't make more of an accomodating effort with a new area. They have these same kinds of complaints with the older areas, but they had a chance here to improve on that with this project.
I was able to get in on Saturday morning. The new ride is awesome! I would say it's better than Spiderman. However, the ride is also a sensory overload. There's so much cool stuff that my jaw dropped, but I didn't know what the story was. I wanted another ride, but the whole area shut down after I got off. The wait at 9:30 am was 75 minutes, but the wait never felt that long. The line was moving pretty well.

The wait time does not seem too bad. We are going to universal July 27 for just a one day trip. I am hoping to just run straight there to get on the ride. I was so worried when I had heard there are 6 to 7 hour waits for these rides...well considering I am only going one day..we would obviously have to miss it! I hope the crowds are not too terrible on a Tuesday!!

We were also there on Saturday morning. The new HP ride is very cool, but the big concern is going to be the crowds once it's open to the general public. There was a considerable line for just the hotel guests, and the ride operators told us the queue can accomodate a 5 1/2 hour wait. Condiser then that there is no way to get to a bathroom while you are in the line, and no Express Lane, at least from what we could see. Hopefully they will find a way to work around those issues. Shops were great, but also small and crowded. Even with only hotel guests in the area you could hardly move in Olivander's, the Owl Post, and the gift shop at the end of the new ride. It's going to be very interesting come June 18th to see what happens when they open it to everyone.
We didn't end up buying anything "Harry Potter" related, although I noticed many guests purchasing wands and t-shirts!! Since it was only open in the mornings at that time, we decided we'll just have to make a return trip later.
