As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

We decided to take the kids to Cedar Point for vacation this year. I've been looking a bit online and we are probably going to stay at one of their "on-site" hotels to get early entry. Anyone have any hotel suggestions? Also, we will be going the 3rd week in July. How many days should we plan. I'm thinking 2 at the park-would 3 be better? Any other things to do in the area? TIA

I haven't been to Cedar Point in ages! So no help there.
But if you're into history, the Sandusky area has Edison's birthplace (Milan) and the home of Rutherford B Hayes (Fremont). Sandusky has a carousel museum that I've never been to but it's on my wish list for when we're passing through.
If you're a MASH fan, Tony Packo's is in Toledo. And a nice art museum.
The living history village in Archbold is supposed to be really nice but we've never stopped and I don't know how far it is. We're always driving Mpls to Cleveland and that western part of Ohio all blurs together. (As a kid I always thought Toledo was practically on the Indiana border, but there's a lot of Ohio west of Toledo!)
Being from Chicago you've probably done Indiana dunes, but that was a nice stop to stretch not far from the turnpike.

DH & I love Cedar Point (we love amusement parks of all types!). I have been there twice in the past few years. The 1st time we stayed at Breakers Express to be "onsite" and get the early admission, and to save money, but we hated the place. The 2nd time (last year) we stayed at Hotel Breakers, and we liked this one MUCH better. You can walk to the park from here. And you can take shuttles to the restaurants around the property. Two full days was fine for us, but we didn't go to the water park. During the time we weren't at the park we enjoyed driving around Sandusky too. We went to that carousel museum - very cool.
We are both very excited that Cedar Fair bought Kings Island, and they are making the place better now (like they used to be) and we have Snoopy now!
We stayed at the Great Wold Lodge!!!!! That was fun. Cedar Point not my favorite..... we are Knoebel's people. Waaaaay toooooo hot!!!!! We went the second week in July two years ago. We found this great ice cream place with a big giant cow in the front. Can't remember it's name. My DS loved the go carts on the main drag. Lots of mini golf places.

We went to Cedar Point last summer and it is definitely worth staying at one of their hotels in order to gain early entry. We stayed at Castaway Bay, which has an indoor waterpark, which the kids loved. And we all love the coasters, unbelievable! As far as other things to do, I found a boating excursion online that goes to different "islands" on the lake. We were going to do that, but it was cloudy and too cool in early June. Have a great time!
We stayed offsite, so I can't comment on that part of your question. As for other things in the area, check out the beautiful Lake Erie Islands. Put-In-Bay is the most visited one. You can take a ferry over there and we found all sorts of activities and sightseeing opportunities.

We have been there twice, with my DNephew and my DS. We also stayed off site, but we loved Cedar Point. We did the water park, also, Soak City. That was totally awesome, and, IMHO, was better than the Disney water parks. I was comfortable enough to let the boys go off on their own (when they were 16 and 12) while we relaxed and did some different water rides than they did.
On our last night, we took the boys to Bay Harbor, the restaurant outside the park but still on the property. We had a waterfront table, and it was just beautiful. Both boys are seafood fanatics, and were very happy with their meals (as were we! )
We would definitely stay on property if we went back again.
We really loved Cedar Point. The waits for the newer coasters was long (2 hours for one) but we walked onto alot of the rides, too. Now I have to think about going back again!
We enjoy going to Cedar Point/Soak City. It is not a Disney-type experience but that is okay with us. We live so close that we have never spent the night anywhere to go there. During the winter we have stayed at Kalihari or Great Wolf Lodge (got to love an indoor waterpark to get you through an Ohio winter!). There is definitely a lot to see or do - especially if you like coasters.
I love Cedar Point!! They have a ton of stuff to do. I like the Planet Snoopy too!! Have fun! This is my friend Breanna and me a long time ago during Cedar Points All-Hallows Weekend and THE GREAT PUMPKIN CHARLIE BROWN.
My family is from Ohio and Cedar Point is one of my favorites. Even my DD has been 3 times and we live in Colorado. I always stay at the Breaker's Express. I am too cheap to pay more for a room. We sleep and shower in it and you still get all the benefits of being on property. The airports are further away, so I must rent a car. We fly into Detroit; it is about a 2 hour drive to Sandusky. (It is about 2.5 from Cleveland, if I remember correctly and Detroit runs cheaper from CO) A Cedar Point vacation (for us) is not relaxing. These are thrill rides and you are tossed around for the whole time. Love it, but come home extra tired.
Years ago (and I do mean YEARS) fourth of July was not crowded. People have other plans. Don't know about currently; weekdays are better than weekends.
You've picked a great place to vacation. Have a great time.
We've gone to CP about 8-10 times in the past 12 years. We used to stay off site but now stay at Hotel Breakers. It's worth the extra $, and you can just walk back to your room in the afternoon if you get hot, need a nap, etc. The early entry is worth it. You can go on Millenium Force, Raptor, and Maverick in the early entry hour. We do a 2-day ride and slide pass. No, it's not Disney, but the coasters rock! Have a great time!
i went to cedar point in june 2005 and we stayed at Castaway Bay for 2 nights - we had more than enough time to do everything we wanted to do - we are roller coaster junkies and loved them - my DD was 11 at the time and she loved the parks and the indoor waterpark - castaway bay is a little further from the parks but being june she wanted to go to a water park and i wasnt sure if the weather was going to cooperate or not - we left here and drove to cincinnati and went to Kings Island
We went to CP in 2008 and stayed at the Breakers. The main hotel is over 100 years old but has a newer addition where we stayed. We really liked Soak City but were disappointed in Ceder Point. We knew we were not at WDW and didn't expect the park to be up the WDW standards. However, the park was dirty with overflowing trash cans everywhere by noon. It was not even very busy.
Also, the crowd at CP was rough and didn't feel like a real safe enviroment. A lot of trash talking people running around with their pants on the ground. I though the days of people wearing their pants way too low and showing off their underwear was coming to an end but not in that area.
Cedar Point is also very expensive and I didn't feel like it was worth the money.
