Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Vegas or Disney for Anniversary - WWYD?

I'll start off by saying I realize the responses may be skewed because we all love WDW so much - but I'd really love some outside perspective to help us make this decision.

Here's the deal -- our 10th wedding anniversary is this October . We'd originally decided to forgo an anniversary trip in favor our this family trip we just took to Disney in January. Upon further thought we decided that we really do want to do something for just the two of us and we would be able to swing a 4-night getaway over our anniversary (the grandparents have graciously offered to babysit dd-love them!).

We've narrowed the choices down to Las Vegas or WDW. Both have their pros and cons and we're just so torn. Here's what we have so far:

Las Vegas
Pros:
Something different (haven't been there in about 9 years)
It's a trip we wouldn't be able to do with DD so a good choice for an adult vacation
Hotel rates are great -- we found a 5-star hotel for under $170/night
Great dining options
Low entertainment cost when compared to purchasing WDW tix (we are low rollers when it comes to gambling and would do one show at the most)

Cons:
The flight is long -- with the time change we'll basically lose the whole last day to travel
Good hotel rates are offset by high airfare and food cost

WDW
Pros:
We'd be there for F&WF, which we've never done but both have been anxious to do
Shorter/relatively inexpensive flight
We love WDW
Chance to do "adults-only" park touring for the first time in a long time (it's been about 9 years since our last kid-free trip)

Cons:
We were just there in January
(this may be a silly one) Slight guilt of going to WDW without DD

Soooo, help us make this decisions! I welcome any and all input!

The long plane trip to Vegas would be the biggest con for me. Losing a day wouldn't be worth it for a short trip.

That's one of the biggest things weighing on our minds too. We'd gain the time getting out there, but in order to get a morning flight out there (there seem to be only early morning or late afternoon) we'd have to ask the grands to come a day early, which means we'd definitely need to get on a painfully early flight home to get back in time for them not to need to stay another night. I don't want to push it with their generosity to watch DD because I know it's asking alot. Ah, if only they could move Vegas a few hours closer.

Having the total opposite flight timing issues(closer to LV for me), I would pick whichever is closer (for you WDW) otherwise you will be burning up more than half a day there and half a day back. Make it as romantic as possible by not "wasting" time with a long flight. There are so many adult things to do at WDW that it will be an entirely new experience.
We just came back from DL - just DH and me - and, sure, our kids were a little bent out of shape that we went without them, but we made sure to get the wheels turning on our next family Disney vacation!
Enjoy!

PS. and I called them everyday - even while we rode BTMRR - and missed having them with us, but gosh it was fun to act like kids without our teens telling us what "geeks" we were...

After doing an "adult only" vacation in both locations I would go with WDW for
the F&WF alone. Just plan all the things that you would not be able to do with DD
and enjoy yourself. I'm not a high roller either and I would much rather my money
go towards seeing the sights but there is only so much of Las Vegas you can see. I
enjoy the shows but that starts to add up.

I was going to say Vegas until I saw the part about Food and Wine fest. So, I would go to Disney and take full advantage of all its offerings. We visited during this time two years ago and barely left Epcot. If you can swing Party for the Senses, it is amazing!!!

That's a great point. We've been able to enjoy a few hours here and there without DD during the past couple of trips because she's now old enough for the Neverland Club and it is great to go on the rides/attractions that she can't or doesn't want to do.

Thanks! It's nice to hear from someone who has done both.

The F&WF is a huge "pro" for WDW. I've been drooling over the pics from it for years!

We have been to LV many times and to WDW many times as a family. If I had to choose a trip for me and my wife I would do LV. Just thinking about it I want to go right now.

LV is not somewhere I would take the kids and four days there is plenty. We have never been to disney without the kids and I'm not sure I want to go without them. Seeing their joy is part of the WDW experience for us. There is alot to do in LV and its a nice trip for a couple. You see a lot of things there you don't normally see and you might not want to see with your kids around. Granted the flight is long but we hardly sleep when we are there so we catch up on the flight home.

I would go to WDW and enjoy the F&WF! Going back and forth to the west coast from here isn't fun or easy (which I'm planning this summer)!

I agree with some of the other comments - for a short trip, go to the place that's closer to you. You can't go wrong with either. :

We love both places and always go to both when we visit the US.
I'd choose Vegas for an adults only trip. We have taken all our kids to Vegas and still had a fantastic time but the best trips have been without the kids as that allowed us to stay out later, sleep in, use the casino, tour the desert on quad bikes and spend less on the night time A list shows. There are also many, many free things to do in Vegas...
WDW - the guilt would kill me. DH went to DL without me or eldest DS and just did not enjoy it. (However he adored the time spent at the old beer tasting Budwieser place at Seaworld...)

While I enjoy both places, if your not into the gaming of Vegas, I would do the W&WF at WDW. Its closer to home and there are plenty of adult choices to do there also.

DH & I went to LV and Hawaiii on our honeymoon. I was so miserable in LV due to some bad experiences, I don't care if I ever go back. The shows are good though, and I know DH wants to go back someday to see one of the Cirque shows (there is one there that he is particularly interested in). I also have no interest in gambling.
It's too bad you can only do a short trip...we LOVED Hawaii!
Anyway, my vote is for WDW between the two, but I'm sure you will enjoy your anniversary either way!

I agree! Even expanding our options to all the NYC airports, the flights home aren't great -- lots of redeyes or ones that don't get us back until very late.

I'm not much of a Vegas fan to begin with. If I hadn't been going there to visit family, I'd never have gone more than once. You've got casinos much closer to home, and since you're not all that interested in the entertainment... what's left? It's a good jumping-off spot for visiting other places in the southwest, but there are better airports if you want to head to the Grand Canyon, etc.

If I was flying all that way, I'd head someplace like San Francisco, but like so many others have said, why fly all that distance for such a short getaway? Turn the plane around the other way, and head for Paris!

Between the two, it'd be WDW for me, too. I know, we all worry about how the kids will feel, but I think most can handle it. I remember my parents' annual adults-only vacations while we were growing up. We had plenty of family vacation time, too, so we didn't get all that jealous.

There are lots other options that I'd find attractive, too, even closer to home. Romance has a lot to do with what and who you bring with you. A small inn in VT, NH, or ME, Eastern Long Island (Shelter Island, the Hamptons)... Quebec City or Montreal...
