Is it worth extra points for Boardwalk / pref. view at BWV? - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

Is it worth extra points for Boardwalk / pref. view at BWV?
OK, since I am thinking we will try BWV for August, I'm wondering whether it is worth it to spend the extra points on the Boardwalk / preferred view?
We are staying in a studio for 4 nights, so the total points difference is 8. Also, if it is not a Boardwalk view, what is it? I think we would want a BW view - do they guarantee that if you spend the extra points?
Any particular rooms / range of rooms closer to the elevators, since we will have the stroller?
Preferred BoardWalk View
Preferred Garden/Pool View
Standard View
The two preferred categories cost the same number of points per night but you MUST be booked into the "Preferred BoardWalk View" category to have any chance of a BW view.
There are a handful of rooms in the Garden/Pool category which overlook the Village Green. That's the courtyard at the back of the resort opposite the boat dock. That will sort of get you a BW view but there's no way to guarantee you'll be assigned to one of those rooms.
I've never felt it worth the points to pay extra for the BW view. We have always booked Standard. That said, I would clearly put the BW view ahead of the Garden/Pool view for the same number of points.
Some people do complain about the noise and location of the BW view rooms. With there being restaurants and night clubs out on the BW, it's entirely possible that you will have folks chatting, laughing, etc. outside of your room until all hours. It's less of an issue on the high floors, but there are BW View villas all the way down to the 1st floor which open right up to the BoardWalk itself.
If any in your group are light sleepers--including kids--you may want to think twice about the BW view.

Is this your home resort? It is very difficult to get a standard view if you are not using the Home Resort advantage since people who own there often like to save the points. We had a "preferred view" during our stay in January and it was really nothing special. Just a little courtyard.
Whenever we have booked standard we have had a view of the parking lot. But it wasn't too bad because there are trees etc that block it. When we booked the preferred view room we got a view of the themed pool. It was kind of fun because we could see everyone go down the slide from our room. But normally we don't think it's worth the extra points. Only if there are no standard view rooms left.
We did have a bw view on our trip a week ago, dd's request for her 16th bday. There was hootin & hollerin into the night, & we didn't even get in ourselves most nights before midnight. We did know that going in, but we did enjoy our morning balcony time & our proximity to the boat dock. We did request to be near the elevators.
This is my home and i can tell you if you are on the 3rd floor with a boardwalk view it is really awesome view in the morning and at night with looking at the water yacth and beach club and even spaceshipearth at epcot . plus also you can see everything on the boardwalk too . I would highly recommand boardwalk view .
We stayed in a standard view in 2003 and overlooked the canal and the quiet pool. It was lovely, but a looooong walk from the elevators. I would stick with a standard view to save points and maybe put in a request to be closer to the elevators.

We almost always choose standard view for the points savings. This past Oct we "splurged" and got a BW view. We were waaaaayy down the hallway, but what a view! We could see Spaceship Earth perfectly from the Balcony. It was wonderful in the evening and first thing in the morning. I would not spend the extra points every trip, but it was really a gorgeous view and worth the occasional splurge for me.
the problem had with bw view was those boats. that horn is loud especially early in the morning - at night with the rest of the noise not so bad. but in the morning - it woke me up each morning. of course needed to be up.
