As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So I was reading the inflight magazine on our southwest flight home last night and found and interesting chart. It was kind of showing the 50 states in the ways locals stay or move away and then whether non-locals are more or less likely to move there. Kind of interesting and I thought it would be interesting to see how many of us transplanted ourselves.
I grew up in Wisconsin and now we live just outside of Denver Colorado with our two little boys. We love CO and think it is a great place to raise kiddos. We love the mountains and visit them often, Vail is my fav but hubby loves Breckenridge. CO gets tons of sunshine and even in the dead of winter the snow never stays for very long. Granted we also get dumped on a lot but I think that is the fun of it. My hubby grew up in Los Angeles CA and he moved here to be with me and when he is outside shoveling 2 feet of snow off our driveway I know he longs for California's mild weather!
My great x ? grandfather came from Ireland and settled in Portland, Maine and now my DS is the 7th generation to live within its limits. I'm very grounded here, I love it here, I'm very proud of where I've chosen to live, proud to raise my son here but sometimes.....sometimes I think of what I fool I was for never moving away from relatives.
DH was born in Germany, then lived in Vermont, then UK, then Vermont, and has been here since 1991. His old job used to take him all over the world and still believes that this our New England city is a great, decent place to live.
Working here....now that's a whole 'nother ball of beans...

I lived in West Virginia until this year - DH moved us to Shreveport, LA for his 3 years of residency. I can say, without a doubt, I will not continue to live here after the 3 years. It's just not for us - the politics, the fact that it's a minimum of 3 hours away from ANYTHING (airports, big cities, good shopping). We're looking next to move anywhere there's a beach.
And it's not that we don't love WV, because we still do, and I miss my friends and family, but we are so sick of snow and cold weather!
I lived in several places growing up (Northeast US and Mid Atlantic States), but settled on eastern Massachusetts when I was in 3rd grade. There was lots of turmoil in my house since my parents split when I was just 3 years old and I was stuck with the dysfunctional parent and her offspring too.
Upon high school graduation, I moved away to college (Vermont). I then moved because of better employment opportunities (and to get away from those dysfunctional family members!). I've been here in Montana with a job that has brought me and my family a comfortable living and 2000 miles away from the dysfunction!
We don't plan on moving in the near future, but if we do, it will definitely be someplace warmer!!! I loved Wilmington, North Carolina (beaches and warmer climate), but feel that Montana has been better to raise a family.

Well . . . I was born in San Diego (dad was in the Navy) and when I was 12, my parents decided to move back to where THEY grew up in Oregon.
A year after I graduated from high school, I joined the Navy (then got out and married into it. lol) so have lived away from "home" ever since. The closest I will come (for now) to living near where I grew up is when we move to NW Washington this spring.
Good question. I was born in Hertfordshire, moved to Cheshire with my parents, then went to the West Midlands and Warwickshire for university, then London/Surrey for my postgraduate course and finally I've worked in Kent for the last 14 years. I guess you could say I've moved around a bit!
Grew up in MA on Cape Cod (except for private HS in NH for 4 years, lived in France for 6 months as an exchange student). Went to college in MA for my BS (Boston) and MS (Springfield). Lived in numerous cities/towns in MA. Moved to FL 4 months ago.
Growing up I always said I'd move when I was an adult. I loved CO and wanted to live there. BUT after I had my first dd, I decided I couldn't leave my mom.
I'm a native. I've been thinking about moving to Texas to be near my mom and stepdad and my aunt but a friend of mine has asked me to be part of a business he's working on starting so if that takes off I wouldn't move.
I live 2.5 miles away from where my parents moved us when I was in 2nd grade. My parents still live there and both of my siblings live less than half a mile from them. I am the only one who moved away.
