Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

I usually stick the shoes in those front pockets of the suitcases.
Really, I guess I put them where ever I can find free space!

I have a problem with shoes. I always pack too many. But I know what you mean,
you need tennis shoes, sandals, flip flops, and a dress up pair as well. Multiply that by the number of people in the family and well...it's alot of shoes!

Good luck and have a wonderful trip!

We wrap them in bags and put them near the outline of the suitcase, along the sides.

Oh I forgot to tell you that you should get one of those shoe holders that fit about 12 pairs of shoes. The ones that hang over a closet door.

We just went on a Carnival Cruise and let me tell you it was really nice to have to put all of our shoes in. Otherwise, they would be scattered all over the place.

You will need:
Flip-Flops (you will use these must of the time) a must!
Tennis Shoes (for Working out, and depending on the shore excursion)
Dressing Shoes (for semi-formal-Formal nights)
a catch all shoe (to use with pants on the other nights)

I usually stuff socks inside the shoes to use the space and I put it in plastic bags to keep the rest of the clothes clean and I use the corners of my suitcase. Hope this helps. Have a great time!!!

We usually put them in the Suitcase corners & stuff them as full as we can with socks so we don't loose too much space!

We also wear one pair of shoes we want to the Pier....More space!

We try to limit it. We wear the big shoes (tennis shoes) and pack flip flops, which slide in almost anywhere. The dress shoes are a problem, but I think we just make room for them! One vacation, not Disney, where we were going to a wedding, we needed so many shoes that I simply packed a small suitcase with all shoes (it was large carry-on size).

I try to make sure that the shoes are interchangeable - for example that whatever shoe I wear with my formal dress will be one I can wear with my other dressy clothes. My flip flops should be comfortable enough to wear around, but appropriate to wear by the water. And my tennis shoes should be good for everything else!

I slide them in cracks or open spaces. I usually wear one pair of tennis, usually my biker sketchers because they are sleek.

Flip flops, at least one pair, but I usually bring two. I will put these on the sides or bottom of suitcase or even the front pocket. My dress shoes are always strappy heels so they will fit in a confined space. I pick a pair that will go with every outfit of mine (usually black). I will arrange them so they lie flat in the suitcase or slide them between layers of clothes etc... (hard to explain without a picture). I got 4 pairs of shoes in my carry-on for chicago, I was proud!

OK, I know, I'm a guy, but I usually cruise with just two pair of shoes. I have "dressy" sport sandals (leather straps), and a pair of dressy black loafers. If it's winter back home, there'll be a third pair of casual shoes that I wore to the airport (and stowed in my checked luggage as soon as I hit the airport). If I'm going somewhere where I know I'll need closed hiking shoes for walking on rocky paths, etc., then those will substitute for that third pair of casual shoes. If I knew I was going to play basketball on the sports deck, or if I planned to run laps or use the workout equipment I'd bring appropriate footwear for that, but since I don't... I've never felt the need for sneakers/cross-trainers. Sport sandals tend to be more comfy in the islands, and more versatile overall (I confess, I even wear mine to dinner some nights).

That's a long way of saying, I never pack more than two pair of shoes. While a guy may be able to get away with one pair of dressy shoes (I make sure that all my slacks go with black shoes), it's certainly reasonable to have two pairs of dressy shoes on a 7-night cruise - choose your wardrobe carefully and you shouldn't need more than that for the evenings.

Packing tip: If you'll have sandals and sneakers, pack your sandals and wear your sneakers on board, since sandals are so easy to pack.

Okay Dave then I must ask you this... Do you (and other guys in general) think that black shoes go okay with KHAKI pants and a polo? Because Me as a girl would think that hubby should take his brown shoes to wear with khaki pants. Right now- that would have him packing more shoes than me!

To answer the rest of the question, I bought a cute pair of strappy black high-heeled sandals that I then made sure all my dinner outfits matched. A few dresses, a pair of black capris with some tops, and a pair of white capris with some tops. So I'm wearing my Nikes, packing the dress-sandals, and 2 pairs of flipflops.

Black penny loafers with khakis is a classic! Think of khaki as off-white, or off-pale-green rather than light brown, and it all makes sense. Yes, brown or cordovan works fine with khaki, too, but brown is dress-down, while black is dress-up. For dress-down on a cruise, it's sandals for me.

If you Google "wear black shoes with khaki" and you'll find a lot of support for black shoes (although it's certainly not unanimous). The general feeling is the shoes shouldn't be too dressy, as that could be too upscale for khaki. Some style "experts" say "no brown shoes after 6:00pm." A variety of U.S. military uniforms (including US Navy Service Khaki and Working Khaki) call for black.

Wear your bulkiest shoes and wrap the others and outlind your suitcase with them. Heels I fit where ever I have space and padding. I stuff socks in the shoes to keep their shape. In the past I have also resorted to packing shoes and toiletries in our smaller bags but that was when I would take the 5th bag. Also, try to keep your clothing for evening limited to one color so you need only one or two pair of evening shoes. I have learned after cruising many times you have to keep your colors in the same spectrum if you are going to try to limit your shoes. Same with my husband, I try to keep him in the black/grey clothing for nite so he can only take one pair of black dress shoes then a pair of casuals. It is too cumbersome to take two pair of mens dress shoes for just a couple formal/semiformal nites.

On past cruises, this is what I have packed: one pair of water shoes, 1 pair of casual/walking sandals in brown, 1 pair of black heels, 1 pair of flip flops, and 1 pair of brown heels. I plan all of my wardrobe to match those shoes. For the most part, I am wearing the casual sandals or flips. But the water shoes are for CC or other beach trips.
I stuff my shoes along the sides of the luggage. If I could limit my wardrobe colour palette -- then I could cut out a pair of the heels. But for me, that would be tooo minimalist.

I giggled thinking about my shoes.... I had my whole suitcase packed and wondered how I was going to fit all my shoes in it... wasn't happening! So, I put them into a med. sized duffle bag and checked it as my 2nd piece of luggage! Then on the return trip, I was able to use the duffle bag to stuff as many dirty clothes into it and then used the suitcase for shoes and souveniers! Worked good for a single traveler!
