Anyone else's kids have major tooth/mouth problems?? - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Anyone else's kids have major tooth/mouth problems??
Obviously from my title, Abby has major problems.
Including her wisdom teeth in the count, Abby is missing 11 teeth. On top of that, 2 are coming in crooked and one of them, being in the very back of her mouth, will screw her mouth up for life if it doesn't get straightened out. I believe the dentist about that because I know when the back of my mouth bothers me, I don't eat right and everything hurts. In Abby's case, the tooth is coming in wrong and will really screw up her bite. The other one tooth the dentist isn't concerned too much about right now (but it will be an issue later I'm guessing).
I guess what's really ironic is I just dropped her old dentist and I took her to a new one. To make a long story short - I didn't like the old one and was very unhappy with them - especially since at her last cleaning (back on the 16th of January) they brought in the Orthodontist who started talking sealants, spacers, braces and pulling teeth (none of which I have coverage for and they know it!). They did tell me about the tooth in the back of her mouth and that a couple of teeth were missing - not 11 of them and they never really answered any questions I had. I don't know if they didn't want to or didn't know how to and since I haven't liked them since the day I started going there (it actually wasn't very long ago December 2006 I want to say) I never pushed the issue. Abby was there to get her teeth cleaned and once that was done, I was happy to leave. So anyway last week Abby ended up with Cold sores all over her lips, all over her gums, on her tongue and down her throat. For whatever reason, her pediatrician couldn't diagnose it and because I don't like Dr P, I opened the phone book and found this new one - Dr S. Without going into a lot of detail about why I didn't want to take Abby to her "regular" dentist , I was able to get her an appointment to find out what was wrong. I really liked the dentist, his office and the other staff. Probably because it's a small practice instead of a huge practice with 8 or so doctors (where I had taken Abby) and just his general demeanor. Dr S seemed to actually care about us as patients instead of just seeing dollar signs. So after that appointment, I put in motion getting Abby records transferred. We went back today to Dr S so he could see how Abby was doing. He received her records and had gone over them and needless to say I was a little shocked at how many teeth Abby is missing. I never knew and Dr P never told me. Dr P also never told me what kind of problems Abby might have. He just kept pushing pulling one tooth to straighten out the other and then getting braces or a retainer. And I guess that's where the irony is. All the money he saw his practice making off of us will now go to someone else. Although with Dr S, I think our expenses are going to be much, much less. Especially since he told me today he doesn't want any teeth pulled from Abby - she's already missing enough.
And Dr S also told me she's developing a cavity. There was no mention of that by Dr P back on the 16th either.
Two of my three had pretty significant orthodonture. My middle guy just grew in straight teet with the slightest overbite (orthodontist said no where near enough to even conside fixing.)
I thought my kids orthdontist was just expensive until I sent a friend to him whose son's teeth looked a lot worse, but were easier to fix and about 60% of the fees I paid.
My DD had very small baby teeth and as soon as he first two adult teeth came in, they came in very off center and we began the process of extrations. Her older brother was in treatment already, so I had an orthodontist I trusted. I think she had all but two of her baby teeth out and 4 adult teeth to make room for the others. They were done in two separate trips to the oral surgeon, I think a couple of years apart. It did seem to cut down on the time she was in braces and she did not need head gear.
While it was not a pleasant process theend result was lovely.
I do know a couple of people what had children who were missing a few adult teeth, inclduing the friend whose son's treatment was so much less than mine. My two who had braces both had 4 adult teeth extracted.
If you ahve concerns, most orthodontists will do a very inexpensive consult.
Our orthodontist told us that DD#3 had one of the worst problems he had ever seen! Most of her baby teeth NEVER fell out, and that made the top ones not fall. She had to have many teeth pulled, and then go to an oral surgeon to have her adult teeth pulled down. Anyway, it worked out and now she has a perfect smile!
Isn't it horrid that if the first one would have actually just TALKED to you, instead of telling you what to do you may never have left?
I'm sorry. DDs have all had bad teeth - but not as bad as Abbey's sound. Samantha just had a crooked bite and a few "off" teeth. Kathryn had to have 8 teeth total pulled - 4 babys that wouldn't leave her mouth, and 4 wisdoms that there just wasn't room for (a vestige of our Am. Indian heritage - I have the same problem). Lauren has some seriously bad looking teeth!! We're waiting until the majority of her adult teeth come in to attack them - but they're bad. Snaggle tooth would be a mild way to describe her.!
Pixies for you and for Abbey. Braces, etc. are not fun - but the results are good.
ALWAYS listen to your MAMA'S gut! When my son was 10 I took him for an "orthodonture consult" the Orthodontist said he needed brace "IMMEDIATELY". My gut said RUN which I did! My DD who was 8 was seen by a different ortho for a spacer because her upper palette was much too small. He looked at DS and said WAIT! His mouth is too small and he as TOO MUCH GROWING TO DO!!! Guess what... He didn't NEED braces!!! He did end up getting braces on his lower teeth for ONE tooth that was a LITTLE bit crooked (which he probably didn't NEED, but really bothered HIM) and my orthodontist only charged me what the insurance covered and not a penny more!!!
GOOD LUCK with Abby's new Dentists!!!
I absolutely hate trying to find a dentist! We move a lot and that is one of the hardest things! We drive 4 hours to our old one because we've tried 3 different ones where we live now and not one of them know what they're doing!
So glad you were able to find someone you and Abby feel comfortable with! That is so important. And trust! That's a difficult thing to have in a new dentist!
