As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). We have two redheads in our family and we use very specific sunscreens to prevent burns. I know that we have to use fish safe sunscreen at Discovery Cove. Does anybody know what the spf # is and is there somewhere I can get a higher #? We use at least 55. Thanks for your help.
I asked my friend who went last year, she said she thinks it was 30spf. You can send an email to Discovery cove and they may be able to reccomend a brand with a higher SPF or possibly give you the ingredients so you can get something that will work for your family and be safe for the fishies...
DD and I both burn easily. The sunscreen at discovery cove worked well; no sunburn. But is is THICK, like Desitin and tough to rub in. But it worked well and we had enough in the samples. Otherwise, you can buy some more there
Not a red head, but I'm very fair and I burn very easily. I used the SPF30 Panama Jack they gave us/recommended and I was absolutely fine. Just remember to try and reapply frequently since you are in and out of the water.

I had a similar conversation with my dermatologist in May and she said the same thing. She said 30 or 45 is fine. No big difference in the higher numbers and the only thing that will give you 100% coverage is old fashioned, white zinc oxide.

The zinc oxide now comes in a clear formula and in different sizes. It is WONDERFUL. As a former lifeguard I spent many a day with a white nose at the pool lol. I love being able to use it all over now especially on my youngest DD ( fair skin,blonde haire, blue eyes). It is made by Solar Sense. The small container is great ( it says for face) but we carry it around and use it on our shoulders etc.

Mine also told me this same thing years ago. I am a strawberry blonde and always use an spf 30 now and if I apply well, I don't burn. I think you'll be fine with the one they use at Discovery Cove.
The spf was 30, but I was told 15 on the phone with DC. The redheads did not burn, but I did on one shoulder. We did reapply and it is very thick, so we look a little ghostly in our pics. I hope this helps someone else. Maybe one day I'll get around to posting a trip report.

And in this line, I thought I had heard a few years ago that the FDA was cracking down on the "high SPF" numbers and that nothing could be labelled above 60 since anything higher is just as effective.
My grandson was always getting sunburnt even after a very few minutes regardless of applying additional lotion.
After trying different lotions over a couple of years, without results (to him) someone had suggested to us to use Leap Frog. I forgot what sph we used but I believe it was the highest on the self. It worked great and we use it all the time.
