As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). I had to make a run to the store for some things DH forgot. THREE things!
So, I get in line at the self check out. SELF check out. As in - do it yourself and KNOW how to do it.
There are only 4 pods. There is a 15 item limit (I'm always cautious about this, so I don't take up too much time - they are a faster option, and if I take 30 items, I slow it down.)
Okay, so there I am with my butter, green beans, and OJ. All 4 pods are full. One lady has a cart full of stuff - and she's separating it into batches - she's come to do shopping for the church pantry also, and is keeping things under control. Another lady has quite a few items, but worse - has NO clue of how to use the scanner. She ran her green onions over it about 9 times before I leaned over and said "you have to put in the number and weigh them!" Then, when she's gotten that down - she doesn't know how to PAY.
But - I maintained my Holiday Cheer and said nothing. Although - don't get me started on people who let their 3 or 4 yr. olds "help" ring up stuff!!

I am sorry if this is what some people do but, opening food and eating it. IMO, if you haven't been through the line and paid for it yet it is not your to eat yet. JMO.
I saw a lady at the store a couple weeks ago open a Starbucks glass frappucino drink and start drinking it while she waited in line. Well, she was also talking on the cell phone. She proceeded to drop the half empty glass bottle and make a heck of a mess everywhere. (continued to talk on the phone). Did not ask anyone to get help. A cashier noticed and called for housekeeping. The lady offered to pay for it but housekeeping said not to bother. (Does housekeeping have the authorization???) So, $3 added to someone's bill, and more work for someone.
And people eating produce, like grapes before they buy them. Yeah, they are trying to check what they are buying. But yuck, pesticides and dirt. Not to mention loss of revenue. Why not peel that banana and take a bite?
I have to admit I'm guilty of letting my 6 year old "help" me at self check out, but generally not when someone is waiting behind me. I think my grocery store gripe is more about people standing in the middle of the aisles blocking the entire row, but I'm also not fond of check writers. There aren't too many of them these days, but they never can quite grasp the concept of writing the check while the groceries are being rung up...opting instead to slowly take out the check book after everything has been scanned.
I cringe every time I see a store employee come rolling through with a huge wheeled bin full of garbage. This seems to happen is some stores more than others and usually in produce. The garbage producing departments are along the outside of the store add outside doors for employees only to those departments so they can take the trash out without having to come through the rest of the store. This is part of why I buy frozen veggies as much as possible.
One of my big pet peeves are the self service checkouts. (sorry have to jump on the soapbox briefly. lol).. ....They take jobs. ......They only have to hire 1 person instead of 6.
My peeve is when people stand there waiting for everything to be totaled and THEN they decide to open their purse/wallet and get out the money/card. Did they think that they might not have to pay? Have your card or money somewhat ready people! Ughhhh!

I HATE that. I work in a restaurant and customers get there checks at the table and know there total. They come up to me to pay there bill and don't have there money ready. Drives me crazy!!! Women are the worst. They throw there giant purse up on the counter and spend ten mins digging for there wallet. Then they get out the bills and say wait a min I have a penny and spend another two mins digging in there Mary poppins purse for that stinkin penny. Have your money ready especially when you know how much your bill is, grrrrrr!!!!

Judi, my wife does that!!! It drives me crazy. She gives the clerk a look like You expect me to pay for this? If I am paying I have my store card and money ready to go!!! It is no secret that we have to pay for food so why not be ready??
Hate the self Checkout. Yesterday Dh and I were at walmart and bought pillows. I kept telling him he had to put them in the bag and place them on the scale, but he did not understand this. Pillows weigh next to nothing anyway, so they don't register on the scale. What a disaster!

Anyways she splits her purchase into two groups so that she can pay for them separately. It of course takes longer, but fine, whatever. Just as she finishes her second transaction, she looks into her cart and says "Oops, I forgot this." Well, it wasn't just one item, but like TEN ITEMS!!! How do you accidently forget ten items??? Now I was majorly irritated!!! That takes a lot as very few things get to me, but she pushed the wrong button that day. Fifteen minutes later, I finally got to check out!
