As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

View Poll Results: Where would you go on your trip?
Ok, so I know many of you would pick Disney World as a honeymoon destination - but I think Dfia and I are looking to travel elsewhere, although we are certainly not ruling out Disney entirely. We are trying to expand our trip experiences since we got engaged at Disney and want to keep that experience separate from our honeymoon....if that makes any sense
We originally wanted to do a cruise/stay on land in Hawaii - but there are no cruises offered in June
So now we are thinking about one of the following: a cruise in the Caribbean, a "traditional" trip to Hawaii, a "traditional" trip to the Bahamas/other Caribbean island, a cruise in Europe (the locations for 2010 haven't been set in stone yet, so I can't give more info) or a Disney World trip. (By traditional I mean staying in a hotel on solid land!)
My #1 issue: I've never been on a cruise! I'm afraid I would get seasick. The one good thing is that I have been on 9 whale watches - I have never taken dramamine and I have never gotten sick, so I shouldn't be worrying about getting sick on a cruise right? (We even went on a whale watch the day before Hurricane Bob - everyone on board was sick except my friend and I - so seriously boats don't usually bother me but I have never stayed overnight on a boat)
My #2 issue: Price! I am the one covering this vacation. I figure since Dfia bought my ring - this is my "ring" to him. (When we were first discussing getting engaged I told him I wanted to split the cost of the ring - which he completely denied, I still don't have any idea how much he even spent for it!) I thought it was only fair for me to take on this trip. That being said, we can't go crazy. Yet I do want some of the amenities of the honeymoon experience! Our last trip to Disney was about $2,000.00 - which I can easily cover - I just know that some of the other trips will be much over that.
My #3 issue: I've stayed in hotels in the Caribbean before and they were not quite up to par. When I went to Cancun with my parents when I was a kid we stayed in a Hyatt - which I wasn't thrilled with since I thought if we're in Mexico we should stay in a Mexican resort - but looking back on it it was a good choice. I had other experiences in non-US hotel's that were not so good....which I don't want to worry about on this trip - for instance we had people with machine guns guarding our hotel in broad daylight....not the best for ambiance - what worries me was this particular hotel was recommended by a wonderful travel agent who we have worked with on several occasions - so my question was how bad were the other hotels?!
So after my ramble, what would you do? Do you have any recommendations for hotels or cruises? I'm completely open to other ideas than the one's I listed above.....those were just some that came to mind. Thanks for your help!

When DH and I got married (24 years ago), our only honeymoon option was Myrtle Beach, so any of the above choices would be great IMHO. We're going on the 7 night Western Caribbean cruise next year for our 25th. If I had the money, I would definitely go to Bora Bora and stay in one of those over-the-water bungalows.
We had wanted an island vacation for our honeymoon. We were using a timeshare trade from my parents for our stay and there were none available for when we wanted to go.
We ended up staying in Flagstaff, AZ and spent each day touring a different part of the state.... Grand Canyon, Meteor Crater, Sedona, etc. It turned out to be a wonderful honeymoon and I wouldn't trade it for anything.
What I want to say is, think outside the box a bit and maybe there is something else you'd like to do that isn't traditional.
My siblings honeymoons....
Kauii
Prince Edward Island
The Homestead (VA)
OK, here's my $2 (yeah, it's more than my $.02). We did WDW for our honeymoon. We decided not to do "tropical" because, at that point in time, the appeal was "warm" and we already lived somewhere warm. We wanted to do something fun together and didn't take regular trips to WDW prior to that (nor after, as the next trip wasn't until 10 years later - we're DLR folks). While I loved our honeymoon, I do feel like a bit of "romance" was missing (excepting our dinner at V&A's).
I think a honeymoon should be a once-in-a-lifetime type trip, as well as intimate. I'm willing to bet you'll end up on a Disney Caribbean cruise before too long, so my votes are for something BIG and uncommon (within reason and budget, of course).
A cruise to Europe would certainly fit the bill! As well as Hawaii (if you want to know about The Big Island, you can read my TR). Or, like Kris voted, Italy (or France).
If those options are out of range, budget-wise, then I would recommend the Caribbean cruise since it can be so romantic and intimate (imagine all the sunsets off of a balcony).
I voted for a European cruise, but that's to be pricey and most likely out of the $2000 price range.
DH and I honeymooned on Jamaica (Sandals). It was very nice, couples only, and very relaxing. That said, I'd probably pick a place other than Jamaica if we were to do it again (like Turks and Caicos) but it was nice to have everything covered (like you would in a cruise). That was one reason I didn't want to go to Disney, because I wanted to "know" how much it was going to cost us since everything was included.
We went to Australia for our honeymoon! What a wonderful place! I think if you want warm and sunny and thinking abotu the Caribbean, expand your horizons a little. Cancun? Eh. Mexico? Double eh. Try an island like Belize or Honduras, maybe one of the British Virgin Islands. If you choose a place that is a little less touristy, you'll find exactly the romantic hot spot. There re are lot of great places to stay with better rates. Or you can do an eco-lodge and stay in a rain forest. There are so many places to travel to that it is difficult to recommend one place. Why not pick your favorite World Showcase "country" and go to there??? Do a little tribute to Disney!

I voted other too. First, I would say if it were my "dream" choice, it would definately be Fiji. That being said, my husband and I had the same issue, $$$. I am originally from northern MI, and Mackinac Island had always just been a day trip for me...that is until I got married. We enjoyed the relaxing pace and beauty of the island. There are no cars and all travel is by foot, bike, or horse. You take a ferry boat to get there from the mainland. I would say that if you can swing it financially to go all out at the Grand Hotel otherwise my personal favorite is the historic inn, The Inn at Stonecliffe. The island is a National Historic Landmark and I remember it being listed as one of the top 10 islands to visit (but I cannot recall the magazine). People book about one year in advance or more. Depending on when (various festivals) it can be difficult to get a reservation so if at all interested you should watch the timelines/availibility. Check out the link to see if it may be something the two of you would enjoy. Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!
