Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

College class question...what do you think? long...

I'm in a class in the midst of the first team assignment. No one stepped up to the plate for leadership, so I did it. Again. I divided the assignment into 5 sections (5 members) and claimed the edit/proofread/cohesiveness/formatting/plagiarism & grammar check/submission role. This is my forte and I don't want to turn anything in with my name on it that I have not personally checked for plagiarism (not that I don't trust others to not plagiarize, but I don't! BTDT, already had to fix it several times). I also put dibs on the 2 companies I wanted to profile. The team has been {cricket, cricket} until one member got miffy b/c *SHE* was looking at one of my company's FIRST. Well, chickie, you should have said something EARLY ON, is the way I look at it. Also, I assigned a deadline (supposed to be last night) for the individual sections to give the team today and tomorrow to compile the group section, giving me Monday to do my part.

This person decided she was too busy and so sections wouldn't be due until Sunday at noon after which the team would work on the other sections (NOT enough time to evaluate 10 companies). NOW she's complaining that the work was distributed unevenly and 2 of the section-writers will need more help (one has to compare, the other contrast concepts). I know how much work I put into the editing, etc. which is why it is always a seperate task. I do not believe it to be uneven, it's just they've all dragged their feet all week and the deadline is upon us.

How would you handle it? The course is transformational leadership and I'm trying to do a good job. There were NO cooks earlier and now, there's at least one too many...

I can't tell you how much I HATE group projects. HATE! There are no words strong enough.

I'm taking a Managerial Presentations class this semester and we'll be doing a group presentation and I'm already dreading it.

Good luck. Sound like you'll seriously need it!

IMHO face to face projects were easier to do then over the computer/phone.
While it was a chore to get people to do what needed to be done, at least if
you could see them then you could read their willingness from the begining.

What always made me crazy was the fact that people were paying to be lazy?!?!
It's one thing to do it in HS but college?????

Good luck with your project!!!

Sometimes it is the professor and sometimes it is one of the classmates that force everyone else to pull an all-nighter to make the deadline. I'm sorry you have no way to 'fire' your team mates...
Sounds like this other cook is unsure what teamwork really is.

I remember when my city management class had an abbreviated exercise using the "Sim City" game, which I had played extensivley (before being married with children). As no one else had ever played it, I convinced them to give me absolute power, because the goal was to win and have your team's city name forever on the plaque in the program office. The result was that we won, but I don't think that my team mates learned much about how to play the game or envision city planning with it...

It would be nice if you were able to point to your project management track record and say because of what I did, my team got ___ grade, so do what I say and let me polish the report and we will all get a good grade!

Dawn - I have taken that class and I have also been in the same position as you when the group has just sat on their behinds and then complained when someone took the initiative.

My last class I was waiting until Monday for certain sections to be turned in. The compare / contrast sections have also been a problem - in the last few classes everyone ended up adding their own compare / contrasts to the section - using their two companies in retrospect with whatever overall concepts we were dealing with.

It went over well but I think it made it harder to deal with when it came to making the whole paper flow.

Sorry you are going through such a hard time with this group...

I detest group projects! I'm in the middle of 4 of them, and I hate them!

One thing that my college has done this year, that I love, is "Grade Sharing". Here's the premise: Say there are 3 people in a group, and your group received a "C". Now, the group gets to decide how to split the grade. You might say that someone did most of the work, and therefore gets an "A". Someone else did some work, and that person gets a "C" and the third person did nothing. That person would receive an "F". And - the whole group has to decide this, and sign off on it. It's made doing group projects a bit easier - since in the nursing program, anything under a "C+" is a failure and that class has to be repeated. And, we're only allowed to repeat 2 classes before we're kicked out of the program.

Pixies to you - sounds like you're def. going to need them!

I sent my prof an email and she suggested that I try to lead the team through it, but offered to step in if I wasn't comfortable with that. Since it's a management class, I decided to go ahead. I redirected the team members to our charter (where it talks about checking in daily and deadlines) and the 2 who bothered to read and post were like "eh" and the one woman was "well, it will get done, even if I have to do it myself!" huffy. The other one didn't understand why I'd set up the deadlines like I did (like it's no biggie to wait until the very last second). We have a team member in AFRICA and he needs time to read and respond, y'know!

I emailed the prof again and asked if the others don't do their sections if it's my responsibility and she said NO, it is only my job to do what I signed up for, which is the edit through submission. WHEW! At least I know I'll be OK through all this!

I HATE group projects too

I'm glad to hear that the prof. knows what's going on and won't hold the other members' actions (or lack of) against you. Let them sink or swim, you did you're part.

Here are some A+ pixies for you!
