Back from the mexican riviera happy to answer any questions - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

We had a great time (6/8-6/15). Weather wasn't the greatest though. Pretty cold on deck during day on 6/9. Great weather in cabo, kids did dolphin swim and LOVED it. Drizzly in Mazatlan where we spent the day with my aunt and uncle. Overcast in PV most of day but that was fine with us, we did ziplining in the jungle and was glad it wasn't even warmer. We had so much fun. Extremely cold on deck Friday and Sat. It was only a high of 70 and felt WAY colder with the wind. We went up to secluded verandah and deck 7 aft and were able to sit in the sun with our swimsuits on and be warm enough.
I did ginger and salt glow exfoliation/massage on first day, SOOOOOOOOOOOOO wonderful and my skin is still soft after. I made the big mistake of waiting until later in the week to buy the exfoliation stuff, they were all sold out. Now I'll have to go online and pay shipping. DH and I did couples vista spa on Monday. Loved it. We did Palo brunch and supper. Absolutely great!
We stayed at Crowne Plaza (they had the most comfortable beds I've ever slept on. Even better than my own. I've never said that about any hotel before!) before trip and rented car from enterprise. We got SO lost trying to follow mapquest directions to Legoland from San Pedro. We took the toll road and that was a good choice, less traffic and easy to follow. On way back to Crowne Plaza, we didn't take the toll road. (DH's brilliant idea even though I told him we should go the way we knew.) At one point freeway had 8 lanes and the 405 was splitting in all sorts of directions. We chose the wrong way on the way home, too! Very convient to drop car at Crowne Plaza office (next door to hotel) before we cruised.
We had a primetime reservation to shuttle us back to LAX after trip. Folks, do not do this!!! That's the only negative thing (other than cool weather, but no amount of planning can help that!) I have to say about the entire trip!
Fire away with any questions! I'd love to relive my trip.

That's a shame about the weather but glad you had a great time! My son & I are doing the dolphins in Cabo - glad your kids liked it.
We didn't book through disney, went online to book. It's cheaper. You literally walk to the end of the pier. Directions say a 5 minute walk, it's more like 2 minutes and you can't get lost. I was nervous about not booking through disney but glad we didn't.
Hi there! This is my first post and I'm bursting with questions, as we're booked on this cruise in August!
Biggest question: We read that Hercules was being retired and that Toy Story was now the big show, but then someone in our party saw - I believe in the newest Passporter's Guide - that Hercules is still playing on the Magic. So which is it?? Inquiring minds want to know!!
We were also wondering if they do a Pirates night, since it's technically NOT in the Caribbean...
And there's at least one in our party who plans to duck out of the more formal night - did you happen to notice if there were other options for dinner then?
This will be our second Disney cruise - our first was just a 4-nighter last summer, so we haven't done some of the things that will go on for this cruise. Obviously our weather could be warmer, but it was helpful to know that it might be chilly, as I tend to be cold when no one else is!! Any other pointers you have would be greatly appreciated! THANKS!!

Welcome to the boards! All of your questions have already been answered. I'm also cold all the time. It will most likely be much warmer in August, but even so, you'll want to make sure to bring a sweater for eating in the evening. The only night I didn't use one was one night in Animator's when it was stuffy at the beginning of the evening.
Something that surprised me was that I didn't get everything done that I wanted to do. We did a 3 night cruise a few years ago and were looking forward to the 7 so we could do so much more. We did a lot more, but there were still things I wanted to do! There's just so much you can do!
As for other tips, make sure you try out the showers at the gym, even if you don't use the gym. (There is no charge to use the gym or changing rooms.) And try the rainforest room at least once! It was 6:00 p.m. on our last night and I still hadn't tried out the rainforest room and I was so mad at myself. I told my husband I'd go for just a few minutes then come back and get ready for dinner (we had 8:30 seating). Well, it was way over an hour before I came back!! I also got a little bit of magic, I wasn't charged the usual 15.00 fee to use the rainforest room. The CM said it was so late, she wouldn't charge me, although as I walked toward the rainforest room I heard another CM charging the lady who just came in.
I really appreciate the help and advice! Especially about the potential coolness - I get ribbed by my always-wears-shorts-even-in-the-Smokies-at-Thanksgiving husband, but I will carry a sweater for sure!
I'm bummed about Toy Story - the youngest one in our party is a huge Buzz & Woody fan and I don't think he's watched Hercules at all. However, my son (12) and I are thrilled, because we LOVED Hades and his minions last summer and can't wait to try and catch all those "inside" jokes!
And SoCal - thanks SO MUCH for all your info - and we officially got summer this weekend too with 100+ temps - and we're close to North Coast so that's way hot for us!!
We do have several spa dates booked, looking forward to that - but I didn't catch the Rainforest Room on the Wonder - is there one? How did I miss that? I don't see it on the list of things to book?? More on that if you have time, please! What a great tip about the showers at the gym - I may send the boys down there if I need more prep time than they do! But since we're skipping formal night, it might not be needed... The Fiesta sounds fun, we'll have to pack for that - hm, will my Chevy's hat fit in the suitcase???
We can't wait for August!! But we'll endeavor to get a summer in 'til then!
Thanks for making my first post so much fun!

Yes, the Wonder has the Rainforest room, but you don't book it ahead of time. You just stop in. It's 15.00 a day and can use as much as you want during that day. You can leave and come back later, etc. On the Magic, there's a discount if you buy a 7 day pass, not sure if there's a 4 day discount on the Wonder. Maybe someone will come along who knows.
Michelle, thanks for sending those photos ---- I see a 7-day pass to the Rainforest Room as one of my first purchases aboard the Magic!
We had a family get-together yesterday and we get so excited talking about preparations! I had just gotten the 2008 Passporter's for everyone, so it's a hot topic! My sister-in-law is full of questions, too, and hopes to figure out how to log in so she can see the great tips and reviews.
Thanks everyone!

We're going to be on the Wonder next Sunday ( it's so cool to say that - it's almost here!)
so I'm wondering if someone could explain what the Rainforest Room is? Can I take my book? Do you just sit there? Is it steamy? Thanks for the help.

You could read a book while sitting one of the 4 tile loungers out by the fountain in the room as you enter. The room is very comfortable-warm but not too warm and not at all steamy. You may fall asleep before you get much reading done though!
You could also probably read in the dry sauna, the one shown in the pictures that kind of have loungers shown, but I did sweat in there, so not sure if book would get a little humidity too. No way could you read in the other 2 steam rooms, they have moist heat and VERY humid.

We were on the June 1st cruise and the two days sailing back to LA were in the 50-60's...brrrrrrrr!! Decks 9 & 10 were almost empty, except for most folks, like ourselves, running to Goofy's Galley, Pluto's Dog House, and Pinocchio's Pizza!
We were on the May 25th cruise and weather was great except for the first day! We also did zip lining and LOVED it!!! There are other options to your dining room every night so don't worry! Hercules was never on the Magic, well not that I could remember! Have a great cruise!
