Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Pin Question and Suggestion for new forum name

I seriously think I want to do the pin trading. It looks like a lot of fun. I'm not sure my family will think it's fun, but I am taking 3 other trips without (most) of them! SO I will buy a starter pack (probably when we get there) and go from there. NOW my Pin Question - WHAT do you do with a pin that you have received that you don't want to trade again? What if I REALLY Like a pin and want to keep it? I would still like to display my pins, since I will probably only wear them while in Disney.

This leads me to the next part of my topic... I think we need a new forum called the stupid question forum. I LOVE reading other peoples stupid questions (MOSTLY because I don't think they are stupid at all!). So Passporter Professionals... What do you think?

I wear two lanyards sometimes... one for displaying pins, one for trading pins.
Keep in mind that although someone asks to trade with you, you are under no obligation to trade with them....Especially if they're offering you a standard Mickey pin in exchange for your Limited Edition pin.

Pin trading is really fun! We're not into it like a lot of people but we trade a few each year. We also started by getting a starter pack for each of us with the lanyards. You'll also see some nice books (foam padded inside) for keeping and displaying your pins at home. We carry just a few on our lanyards that we are willing to trade. This also keeps them from getting very heavy! Have fun with it!

I started with the idea that I wanted to trade pins. I even purchased pins on eBay to take on my first trip that I decided to trade. I then started collecting more than trading. I know have three pin bags full of pins. I have traded a few but most I keep. I even have hard to find pins.

I noticed I was purchasing pins that reminded me of things from our trip. It is hard to part with memeories.

I am looking forward to trading pins on our trip this upcoming September. DH and I ordered some pins in a Pick Your Lot Size Grab Bage, from Ebay, (only after alot of careful reading) we got all legitiment pins, no fakes or bootlegs, and I am bursting at the seams to trade! There were 2 that I am NOT letting go of, favorites already! LOL I have been told that CM's trade up to 2 pins with you, but other guest don't HAVE to, it is only if they WANT to. The CM's HAVE to trade. (as long as it is legit' and they don't already have the one you are trying to give them.) Is this true?

We also ordered sets from ebay. Make sure you do your homework before bidding though. Research what are tradable. We got 10 for around $17.00 and it wasn't hard to give up the ones that weren't our favorites. We had several hidden mickey pins, but I think dd ended up trading most of them. It gets harder near the end of your trip because by that time they have become "precious" and hard to give up. Also, CM's with green lanyards only trade with children. Word to the wise. Make sure you check the pins even from the CMs. We almost got one without the Mickey back, we just asked to keep our back and there was no problem. We did get one that had a chip missing from the leg of pooh, but another CM traded with us with know problem. Just do a close inspection. The CMs are pretty good about checking the pins to make sure they aren't taking fakes.

I have never had a CM tell me they would not trade a pin. I had one that questioned a pin once, but when I tod her it was from the Narnia collection from the Disney Store, she was cool with it. I buy my pins at the Disney Store when they go on clearance. I got a bunch after Christmas for 1.99 or less. It can be hard to find them, but I try to buy only the ones I DON'T like so I will trade them. I have only changed my mind on ONE pin in 3 years using this method. It is a pin of Mickey looking through a key hole. Everyone wanted it cuz they thought it was supposed to be from the game Kingdom Hearts.
Any who, good luck no matter where you end up getting your pins.

There is a Disney store about an hour from my house, but the few times I have gone in I have NOT been impressed with their selection of merchandise. Mostly they have costumes. I never looked for pins before, but maybe I'll make a trip and check it out.

The seller I used was.....disneypinmad..........they were packaged very well, in that bubble wrap stuff, and no Euro, Sedusma (sp), or fakes. Out of a lot count of 50, I only had 1 double, but it was a Dasiy pin and LOVE her, so I get to keep one and trade the other. There were alot of Hidden Mickey's and hard-to-find's. There was one in there that is worth over $35.00. Whoo-hoo! (I am keeping that one!) There is another seller I am investigating right now, I think she will be an honest dealer too, but don't want to give her info just in case she is not.

I've used that seller as well in the past.

I am a collector, though . . . I can't bear to part with some of the pins I get, so I am way too scared to trade. haha

Yesterday I found my daughter's lost lanyard which was full of pins It's been missing since February and I was a little worried that it wouldn't turn up. Are most of you Disney collectors or do you add pins from other places?

I've just started trading... I only wear my favorite LE Stitch pins on my lanyard for when I see him in the park The ones I want to trade Andy carries in his pocket for me and when we trade he keeps the new ones in bag for me......

I ordered a pack of 10 pins off of Ebay a couple weeks ago... I don't remember the seller right, I will check when I get home. But I was very pleased with the packaging and the pins. 7 of the 10 were CM pins, and one was a LE Stitch pin that I kept for myself
