I know it's going to happen but that doesn't mean I have to like it! - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears

Moving on with the current of the years.

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

I know it's going to happen but that doesn't mean I have to like it!
Allergies! I know I have more than normal but that is beside the point. I can deal with my every day for the rest of my life ones. My problem this time of year are the seasonal ones. I am about to rip my eyes clean out of my head. I wear contacts and they just seem to fog up and get nasty completely every few hours. So right now I am sitting here without them in and I don't have glasses (yes it's a vanity thing but I look like crap in them). I am ok to read and see things within 3 feet clearly but after that I get real blurry. I am almost loathe to put them in later but I have to.
Anyone else like this right now at this time of year?
I was just thinking the other day how the loooooong winter has postponed my postnasal drip, constant nose blowing, and overall gunky congested feeling. I am hoping we can avoid alot of it if we can just jump right into summer!

DH and I both get major allergy problems this time of year - stuffy nose, sneezing, etc. We take sudafed as much as we can (we're limited by law how much we can buy - which I totally understand but when I'm all stuffed up, it's a little bit frustrating ) so we suffer through. Think that's one of the reasons I love fall and winter more - much less allergy problems!

for all the seasonal allergy sufferers. We're fortunate here in that nobody in our family suffers too badly - I'm probably the worst of the bunch and I don't experience too much discomfort that a little Aerius won't fix. I noticed yesterday on my walk that the poplar trees are just starting to bud out so we're not far away from Poplar Fluff season, which is pretty much the start of Allergy Season here.
We're right there with you. I can't take allergy medicine this weekend ( they all make me drowsy) because I have clinicals, but as soon as I'm home from the hospital today, I'm taking my zyrtec. My kids are having a really hard time, I'm making them an appointment for their allergist tomorrow--for another prescription for their zyrtec. I gave them Benedryl last night. we closed all the windows and turned the air on--- that helped a little.

Yup! I've been pretty bad for a couple of weeks. Trees are one of my major issues. I can tell you when the cherry trees are just budding! As soon as the sap begins to move I'm miserable. It's one of the reasons I DON'T wear contacts and have never tried. I'm pretty bad from about late Feb/early March until mid-November. Oh how I hate to get a cold in the winter!
I forgot to tak emy allergy pill yesterday, and woke up with a sinus headache....1 allergy pill this morning...no effect. So I threw 2 Xtra Strength Excedrine on top of it and it finally went away around noon.
Now, the contact lens thing......I had never thought about that. I know that haze you are describing....I never linked it to my allergies!! But sometimes, even the amazingly brillant are a little dense!!
I used to be allergic to just about everything. However after doing several years' worth of allergy injections, I am much less sensitive to the things that used to be the worst such as cats, trees, grasses, molds etc.

I'm allergic to grass and in addition to the nasal congestion, I get severe allergic conjunctivitis (pink eye).
Lori have you tried to get a prescription eye drop like Patanol or something similar? I know starting one made me feel a TON better. Of course my eyes are so bad that after a few years Patanol stopped working and I've since gone through three other kinds of drops!
About mid July or so I'll be going to the ophthalmologist to get steroid drops to stop the bright red eyes and the shedding of the inner lining of my eyelids! I so hear you about wanting to rip your eyes out!
I know you can still wear contacts w/ Patanol, at least you used to be able to. I think I had to wait 20min after putting them in?? I used to not own glasses as well... contacts 24/7, but now I can only wear them for special occasions. My eyes are just too reactive to wear them more than a few days in a row. I'm hoping that I can have my allergies under control enough to wear my contacts at WDW during our late July trip, but I'm not too optimistic!
Three weeks before spring even thinks about starting, my eyes start to itch. My nose soon follows and just as spring starts, I find myself thinking fondly of the first hard killing frost of the fall. The sad thing is that spring is my favorite season of the year. I love seeing everything come back to life. I just wish I wouldn't be so miserable as I watch it happen.
