As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Hello everyone, I am writing to ask for some help with making the decision if I should take my 4 yr old son and 72 yr old grandfather to this pirates adventure dinner I have heard about around disneyland. I have found out the price would be $150 to begin with not counting extra drinks and souvinears. I dont mean to sound fruggal but that is kinda high in our budget bracket, but if the show and dinner are worth it then I wouldn't mind at all. Its just I have read some other reviews and got to tell you its a 50/50 mix. I would really like to hear from some of my fellow true disney lovers out there from any of you that may have been to this say in the past 6 months or year what are your opinions of the dinner and show. Thanks for the help in advance.

Haven't been, but saw the flyer for it at our hotel when we went in April. Have been to the MT one. I don't know... I have food allergies and when it's a set meal, I tend to shy away from places like this. The price too is high... If you do go, be sure to report!

Okay, so I have read this thread a few times and finally have some time to reply to all of you out there who are interested in knowing more about the Pirates Dinner Show.
I have been to the show twice as I live in So. Cal. This is my experience:
When you make your reservations they tell you to be an hour early. This is for a good reason. There is a whole "back story" show that happens in the waiting area before the official show starts. The "back story" show includes lots of schtick, an aerialist, magic, and just lots of fun audience participation stuff. They also have several stations of appetizer type food out in the waiting area so if you come hungry be sure to not overdo on the apps like I did the first time I went . I seem to remember veggies, fruit, shrimp and coctail sauce, cheese, crackers, salami, mini wieners, mini burritos, and a few more things I think.
Like Medieval, you are assigned a color to root for and will be allowed to enter the arena by color. The first time I went we were the last to be seated and sat at the far left of the arena. It was so far left that our vision of the stage and most of the action was blocked by the set. I actually remember almost falling asleep. However, this last time that we went we sat smack dab in the middle and I had a great time. It sure made a difference being able to see what was going on.
So before the show starts they take your drink order and the Pirates are wandering around searching for audience members to participate throughout the show. I was chosen this last time and it was a lot of fun. Might I add that our color won that round!!
So the show focuses on the story of Pirates who have kidnapped some important people and the fun and games that ensue. There is singing, dancing, more schtick, trampoline action, and pirate competition that gets everyone rooting for their color of pirate. I do think I should mention that there is a lot of gun play and sword fighting as well. Something to think about for those with smaller children. I went with my DH, and some friends who brought their 4 yr old daughter and 5 yr old son. The kids loved it and surprisingly so did my DH. This coming from a man who humors my Disney obsession is high points for the show from me.
The food is comparable to Medieval in my opinion however I believe that you have more choices. You can go to Pirate's Dinner Adventure ~ Buena Park, California :: Port of Call Feast to see the choices. I chose the beef and it was pretty good. Although it was not what I expected. It turned out to be cubes of meat in a gravy type sauce. My DH loved his chicken. A side note about the food. My friends were offered a kids subsititution of chicken fingers for their children. However, they opted to stay with the full meal as there was no discount for the substitution.
I am sure I am leaving stuff out so if you have any questions about something I did not address please feel free to ask me.
I would say that for a fun, non-Disney thing to do while in So. Cal this is definitely a good choice. I agree that it is expensive but for me it was worth it. I hope this helps.

Before the show, I was chosen to participate in a sort of relay. I had to run to grab a colored flag and run it up the flag pole before the other teams. There were 3 or 4 audience members chosen for each colored team. There are also opportunities for men and children to be chosen. My DH was chosen to dress up like a pirate and carry the booty to the ship. Unfortunately, he was chosen while I was away at the bathroom and he got away with declining the offer. I have not let him forget this! To make up for it, I've told him that he with have to wear the mickey ears top hat during our trip to Walt Disney World for our Honeymoon/Anniversary trip in October to WDW

We don't usually get picked for things, BUT at WDW we were doing the back-lots tour and got stopped just as we were going in. We had to wait for the next show/tour. The Cast Member that stopped us noticed my son's b-day pin and asked if he wanted his dad in the water show before hand. So, my hubby got all suited up and all wet. I sure wish they made videos of that show and sold them. I would have picked up many for our family!

Ask them what discounts they have when you call to make your reservations. We did the Priority seats when we went and we got to sit up front. I loved it so much.
There use to be a western show there and they re did it to the Pirate one. I miss the western one but the Pirate one is just as good if not better and A LOT nicer then Mideval times. They even have ALL YOU CAN EAT appetizers before the show so get there early.

I didn't even know they had the Western themed show. All I knew about was Medieval Times. But, I suppose pirates are all the rage right now, thanks to Disney and Depp. I can see why they made the change and they are probably raking money in hand over fist.

Ya the western one was alot of fun and family style all you could eat dining. The show was great and the food was great and it was cheaper then the Mideval times or the Pirates dinner adventure. I believe it was called "Wild Bill's Western Extravaganza" I hear that there was in Florida also and they switched it to the Pirates Dinner adventure too.
