As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I wait until the last possible minute to think of an xmas gift for DH. Then I finally think of one and can't find it anywhere!!! This year it's a stinkin Nintendo Wii. This thing is 2 years old already and NO ONE HAS IT. I have been to every website and store under the sun and NOTHING. I am so annoyed, you have no idea. Does anyone else have these problems??? Anyone have any advice on where to get a Wii for retail price???
I have no idea where to find the wii, but I can empathize with not being able to find the right gift for DH! I'm searching right now for cufflinks (a new thing DH is into) and the style I want for him I can only find in Australia! And while the item is cheap the shipping is I can't decide... do I? don't I?

This is our advice from our friend that works at Target-- Call Wal-mart, Target, Best Buy and other stores that sell them and ask them when the shipment is expected in. They usually get them in the night before. Then, arrive the night before near closing and ask if they have them in yet. You might get lucky and get one that way. If not, you'll need to get there right at opening the next morning. We got ours from our friend who had a friend in receiving that put one away for us last year. Good Luck with your Wii hunt!
The other trouble you will have will be finding extra controllers and nunchucks. If you plan on getting him one and see the controllers at the store, buy one!

PassPorter's Free-Book to Walt Disney World It’s hard to believe anything is free at Walt Disney World; but there are actually a number of things you can get or do for little to no cost. This e-book documents over 200 free or cheap tips to do before you go and after you arrive. You could save a considerable amount of money following these tips. Perhaps more importantly; you can discover overlooked attractions and little-known details most people whiz by on their way to spend money. Click here to see free sample pages from the e-book! Get this popular e-book free of extra charges when you join the PassPorter's Club for as little as $4.95. A club pass includes access to all our other e-books; e-worksheets; super-size photos; and more! This e-book is also available for separate purchase in the PassPorter Online Store for just $5.95.
Check the weekly circulars for the stores that sell it. If they have it advertised, that means they'll have them when they open on Sunday morning. Plan to arrive at the store a few hours before their scheduled opening time so you can be one of the first few in line when they open up and/or distribute tickets.
A month ago, I arrived at Target prior to opening to pick up Guitar Hero 3... there were a dozen people waiting outside and they all went to the electronics counter and purchased a Nintendo Wii. They had plenty to go around that morning.. 36 of them to be exact.
Sign up for a free account on itracker.com. It keeps track of the stores and inventory in your area for "hot items". There is a pay service to call or email you when one is available in your area but I just checked it several times a day and then called the store before I went over. That's how I got a Wii back in April.

Hate to be Debbie Downer here, but unless there's a small miracle before Christmas (then again, 'tis the season!), there's probably not going to be a Wii under your tree this year. I talked to a client of mine that owns a video game store and he said that Nintendo has purposely held back this holiday season, so that they'll be able to sustain a demand for them long into the summer. The more people that want them + the less there are available = a hysteria over them!
Your best bet is to try on Ebay and see if there's anyone selling them used. Don't buy one new on Ebay - come March, you'll be able to buy them normally and you'll have waaaaay overspent if you buy it for xmas on Ebay.

That's actually not true. Nintendo has been saying all year long that they are running at maximum production capacity and have been warning consumers that they should purchase one when they saw one in stock. I picked one up in April and gave it to the boys as an end-of-school-year gift. I've only seen it on the shelf at the electronics stores twice since then. They have been getting scarfed up by the "circular watchers" each and every time that it's been advertised in a circular all year long.
The only reason they'll be easier to come by in February and March will be because the feeding frenzy of the holiday shopping season will have passed, and all those shoppers who are buying them just to say they got one will no longer be in the market for one.
I still don't know how I lucked out a few weeks ago when I was in Target at about 2 in the afternoon and there was 3 on the shelf. I actually walked around for a while b/c I wasn't sure I wanted to spend that much, then decided to go for it. I had no idea they were still in such demand!! Good luck.

I am trying to locate a Wii as well. I called every Walmart, Target and Toys R us within a 50 mile radius this morning. I asked them all if they had the Wii and when they are expecting the next shipment. EVERY store but one told me that they were not told when the next shipment would be. A Toys R Us about 20 miles from me told me that they were expecting a shipment on Friday, and to show up at around noon as that is when they were expected to be out. So on Friday I will be traveling to NJ to stand in line for another Wii.
Last week I just happened to be in Toys R Us right in my neighborhood and saw a huge line of people - I knew they had to be waiting for the Wii. I need two as gifts, so I got in the line and after an hour it was my turn. I asked for two and the clerk told me it was one per customer. I asked if I could stand in line again and she said I was welcome to, but judging from the line it would sell out before it was my turn. Oh well, one down one to go!
Hopefully I'll be able to pick the second one up on Friday.
Good luck to you in your search!

My friend just got one at the Target down by the Blt Parkway in Brooklyn and they are supposed to get more in....you might want to call and check. I just went on Sears.com and searched for "wii console" and it brought it up. It says in stock for $249.99. Free standard shipping for orders over $49.00
Just a thought.

The free shipping deal is only for Sears card holders. And there's no guarantee of delivery before Christmas on orders placed after 11/11 on Sears.com. [My apologies - that dates applies only to APO/FPO addresses.]
