As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

Today we went for Josh's Mother's Day Out orientation. Guys...it was AWEFUL!
Josh's teachers were great...the class was great....Josh was great....I was NOT great.
The second I walked in the classroom I just burst into absolute hysterics. We aren't talking about just tears sliding down my face...we are talking LOUD, hysterical sobbing. It was aweful. I was totally prepared for Josh to do the same thing. He is a VERY timid child and I figured he wouldn't leave my side but he found a horse in a pile of toys and was perfectly happy to sit and play. He did keep coming over to me and giving me big hugs and saying "'so kay, Mommy!" I tried so hard to pull it together and put a big smile on my face for him but I just couldn't..and the harder I tried the LOUDER I sobbed. It was SO HUMILIATING! My SIL is one of Josh's teachers and she tried to calm me down but it didn't work...finally his other teacher took me off to the side and talked a little bit of sense into me. She convinced me to just try it for a month and if I was still having a hard time with it then we could just stop and try again next year.
I know I'm being ridiculous. I mean its MDO...not daycare. It's only 6 hours a day twice a week. It's just the thought of having someone else comfort my child when he is upset or having him think I would rather be somewhere else besides right next to him just absolutely breaks my heart. So many of the other parents were laughing and saying how they barely survived the summer without MDO and how glad they were to be getting a break. Maybe I will change, but I don't feel that way at all. I feel like every single minute I have with Josh is such a blessing and privelege. I mean sure it will be nice to be able to run a couple of errands while he is having fun at school, but I sure am going to miss him!
*sigh* Something is wrong with me. My best friend died laughing when I told her how all of the kids stopped playing and were just staring at me because I was sobbing so loudly...I'm sure it was a funny sight....it was just AWEFUL! I don't want my baby to grow up!

to be honest I cried when I left Belle at doggy daycare for the first time. Yes...THE DOG! I could not imagine leaving my child :crying:
Just think how good this is for Josh! Being without mommy lets him spread his wings. It can only be a win/win!!

I know Val, my DH had to walk both my DS and DD into their first day of preschool, I was sobbing so bad. My DMIL didn't make it easier either she was crying right next to me for DS.
It will get easier. I cried too when I first sent my son to older toddler sessions and he was only there for 2 1/2 hours a day. The best part is the smile on their faces when you pick them up and they are happy to see you and can show you all the fun things they did that day.
Hugs to you, Val I am right there with you....I can't imagine leaving Daniel at this point (with someone other than his Daddy or myself) but I know I will eventually have to do it! I hope it gets a little easier for you. It's nice they have a program like that available as I've never heard of such a program around here. Keep us posted on how you and Josh do!

I too am uncomfortable with the thought of someone else comforting my li'l guy. I do work and enjoy the daily break---but I don't know how I'd handle it if he went to daycare. He stays at home with his dad, and his only babysitters have been my dad and my SIL whom I trust implicitly. In the beginning I got a little jealous that Wally was home with him all day, but it wasn't long before I realized that NOOOOOObody was comforting DS the way only IIIIIIII could.
Nevertheless, I'm sure I'll be making a similar post the first time Jimmy stays with a non-family member!
Hang in there! Both Ryan and I were wrecks his first day of camp this summer. I did manage to hold off breaking into hysterical tears until after I left him but I was definitely destroyed. The first day was horrible for me, I was sure I had made a horrible mistake and that he was too little and I was a terrible mother, etc, etc. I was there pick him up 20 minutes early and sure enough, he had stopped crying the second I left and had a blast! By the third week of camp he was hardly waving goodbye to me he was so excited to get there. I don't know which was worse - him crying when I left him or him NOT crying when I left him! You'll be fine and it's good for both of you to have some independent time.
