As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). We took about 100 pictures last night of my kids' grad. DH uploaded the memory card to the computer last night and looked at all the pictures. He checked and was satisfied that they were on the 'puter, so he deleted the card. He said they were all great! I knew there were some really cute ones, but we had got home late so I said I'd check them this morning. When I opened the file up this morning, half of them were gone!!! There's a box with the generic thumbnail symbol holding the place of where a thumbnail of a photo should be and it doesn't get any better when I click the thumbnail. The pictures are gone! Of course some of the ones that are missing are the ones I wanted to email to their grandparents! Is there any way to recover them??? (pleasepleasepleaseplease)
How are you trying to view those photos? Are you using a photo program, or trying to open them directly from your computer's hard drive (My Computer in Windows, Finder on a Mac)? If you're using a photo program, it may be something as simple as the photos having been moved to a different folder (the program expects them to be someplace else).
If there's actual damage to the files, or if there's a hard drive issue, they may still be recoverable with programs like Norton Utilities. It's best if you don't do much with your computer (no new documents, no photo editing, no new programs installed, etc.) until you have a chance to determine what happened, and, if necessary, to use a file repair program like Norton.

Alright, I will try not to panic and see if Dan can get his hands on some kind of a recovery program. I've been opening them using My Computer in Windows. The same thing happened a few months ago with some DVDs of pictures that Bill gave me but at least those pictures are on the DVD and aren't harmed and I know Bill has copies if I need them, so although it's aggravating, it's not devastatingly upsetting like this! It doesn't matter if I open them using Windows, Canon's Zoombrowser or Adobe Photoshop. They just all have their own way of telling me that the photos don't exist.

is the card thing a usb device? sounds like it may have not finished writing before being detached improperly (as opposed to right-clicking on the icon in the system tray and going through the options to disconnect it).
there are programs out there that can recover deleted files from memory cards as well. you can try download.com
Definitely don't panic Just don't take any pictures with that memory card and you should be all set. Remarkably, even the pics on a card that's been formated are 99% recoverable as long as you don't write over the card by filling it up with new pics.
You'd just have to download some photo recovery software. There are a bunch of programs out there. Here's one that gets good reviews -- http://www.datarescue.com/photorescue/specs.htm -- and the demo version is free. If you're ever on vacation, and delete/format by mistake, just put that card away till you get home and then recover the pics. Maybe it's just a computer thing though. Till you sort it out just don't use the card and and you've always got the recovery option.
Glad you got your photo's....the same thing has happened to me in the past. Just one little hint,!!! get them printed and /or onto a CD. A friend of mine has lost lots of photo's from computer crashing etc etc. I now put everything onto a cd asap and don't delete the card until I see all the images on the cd. Enjoy your photo's. S

Help! My computer ate my pictures!
There's a box with the generic thumbnail symbol holding the place of where a thumbnail of a photo should be and it doesn't get any better when I click the thumbnail. The pictures are gone! Of course some of the ones that are missing are the ones I wanted to email to their grandparents! Is there any way to recover them??? (pleasepleasepleaseplease)
