As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I saw the funniest thing at Meijer today. (It's a huge grocery store.) I was leaving with a huge cart full of groceries and a 4 year old daycare girl. This elderly couple (had to be 80 plus) were holding up traffic waiting for a parking spot. It was second from the front. I had to wait to get by them because they were determined to snag that spot!! I was across the isle from them. While I was putting my groceries in my van the first spot opened up. He put that car in reverse so fast I thought he was going to back into me. He moved over one spot closer to the door!!!!!!!!! I think that saved them maybe 5 steps. That was probably the highlight of their day, getting the first spot. I couldn't believe all that time & trouble to get a parking spot.
My DH irritates me because he won't ever look for a spot. We automatically go to the back and park. It's a long walk in the cold!!

I don't like our Meijer's parking lot because all of the employee's park in the front and that leaves no close spaces (except for handicapped). I generally only shop there if I don't feel like driving the 5 miles to the Dominicks.

I can't STAND parking lot stalkers. Especially if the parking lot isn't that crowded and there are spots 2 cars over. I will sit there in my car chatting on my cell phone. I know I am evil aren't I.
There other day I saw a lady (blocking the whole row) wait 10 minutes for someone to load their groceries and back out of the spot she wanted. There was a spot literly at the end of her bumper. She could have walked to the store and back 20 times in the time she waited for that spot. Stupid!
Me I go though once if there isn't anytime I just park on the end.

you know what's more annoying than that is being in teh car that the pooptard is blocking in waiting for a parking spot to open up I missed the first 20 minutes of a class the other day because of a pooptard! UGH!
I was soooooooooooo angry... and the guy got all upset when I finally got out and asked him to move so I could get to the other end of campus. Said if I had just decided to walk I'd be there *now*... UGH!

UGH! Parking lots! I don't even drive and they still annoy me! The store where I work has a policy that employees must park out past the second set of cart corrals. If you get caught parking closer, you can get written up. We have a stop sign in our lot that people continually ignore. Can't tell you the number of accidents and near misses I've seen.
And as for the people parking close so that they can walk all over the huge store looking for something, don't think they do that, either! As someone who works at the service desk, you'd be amazed at the number of people who call on their cell phones FROM INSIDE THE STORE to find out where an item is. Um, could you be any more lazy? I can see if they have a disability, but even then we have the motorized carts. And trust me, the disabled people will come up front and ask; it's the other people who call "Hi, I'm in the peanut butter aisle and I can't find any marmalade. Do you have any?" That's when I want to say, "Sure we do, it's just hidden away so people can't buy it!" We're a warehouse club; we don't have extra storage. If you don't see it out on the shelves or up above in the steel, then we don't have it. Period.
Getting down off my soapbox now,

the funny thing is that they'll wait for a spot that is 10 feet closer to the door, but will go inside these huge stores and walk 2 miles looking around for items. i guess it isn't walking when you're inside the store...only from the parking lot to the entrance.

That probably made their day. And, while it's frustrating to us, as the daughter of one of the "walking wounded" and the granddaughter of one, I can honestly say that sometimes that extra 10 feet means whether you can even go to the store or have to go home.
The thing in store parking lots that really ticks me is the "preggo or parent" spots. Some stores have MOVED the handicapped spots further away or done away with half of them to accomidate people that either need to walk anyway, or have no buisness walking at all (bed-bound preggers). Now, all that I can deal with, it's the peole who will PARK in a Handicapped spot with NO tags, and "wouldn't dream of robbing some poor pregnant woman of her parking spot" as some lady told me!!!
we hate the "Expectant Mothers" parking, too. we sometimes park in those spots b/c DGF might be an expectant mother. she just hasn't taken a pregnancy test yet. want to be on the safe side. if you're so pregnant that you can't manage to walk like normal, DON'T GO SHOPPING!
I park out away from all the 'goofs'. I will park just about at the end of the lane sometimes. It's a good way to get some exercise after sitting all day at the office.
it also annoys me when someone thinks that their car is "too cool for school" and parks really far away or takes up 2 spots. i like to park right next to them just to make them mad. i'm evil.
When my DD was younger (until after toddler age) I use to love that our grocery store had "parking for parents with small children" right next to the cart returns. This wasn't because I was lazy, it was more of a convience not to have to return the cart, pull her out of it, and then walk thru a busy parking lot with her. However, if these spots were not readily available, oh well. Now that she is older, we park toward the back for exercise. I too laugh at people who wait forever for a parking spot to open up.
